Summary: It lacked something, but I don't know what, so I like it.
Review: I think the thing I liked best about this movie was the way it kept unfolding. Some things were left to the intelligence of the viewer to notice, instead of the viewer being bashed over the head with them. You know there must be a point to the way the film starts with the camera being carried over the water, it's just not obvious until later. Some of the elements are more obviously strung to together than others, but it's still interesting to figure out why things happened like they did (the food-to-insects seems just as if there was only a little childish prank running, until Michel is skeptical about Star's warning, adding the possibility that they were giving him a skeletal sporting chance). It adds an element of uncertainty: are they just being silly, or devious?

The gore wasn't nearly as bad as I expected from an R-rated film, which I like: it trims down the reliance on shock value, and lets other elements come into play. The brief flashes of violence during the vampire attack on the beach party just serve to highlight Michel's struggle and the shock of the attack. Something more drawn out would make it seem as if it were easier for Michel to resist.

The break from the formal portrayal of vampirism is really what gives the film interest, although it appears they still don't drink milk. The characters of Sam and the Frog brothers are satisfying as long as you don't expect serious, character-developing material, just characters acting for fun.

One of the things I really wondered, though, was, "Is this film high-budget, or low-budget"? They totalled two cars during the course of the movie and completely trashed a house set. Yet they ran a shot of the view leaving the cave as a reverse of entering it. This left me wondering if the vampires flew backwards for some reason.

Still, it's very eighties, it's got its own mood, and it's interesting. A weekend movie success.

Summary: Take a trip back to the disgusting 80's!
Review: This is a great movie, as were many '80's movies, but man, isthis ever 80's! It will trip you out! Let's face it, the '80's were inbad taste! Watch this movie for it's cool effects, pretty good story, fun and stupid lines, and stuff like that. You'll be freaked out by how weird the 80's were! The styles, so weird! Okay, here's the basics since I gotta remember to give them! A mother and her two teen sons move to a town in Southern California, the older brother joins a group of teen vampires, the younger brother joins a pair of vampire killers. It's very easy to choose sides here, as the Vampire killers are much more likable. The music is weird, though there's some Jim Morrison thrown in for good measure. The visuals are freaky, thanks to Schumacher, the director who single handedly destroyed the Batman film franchize. Well, he does a good job here and let's hope he does good on the sequel, The Lost Girls, if they really make it. Speaking of titles, this one was really neat. I mean, the parallels to the Lost Boys of Peter Pan fame, it's really a cool idea. They never grow up, they fly, they live in an almost Neverlandesque cave, they, well, you can pick them out as you watch. I recommend it. Check it out! Oh, one last comment, what's up with Corey Haim in this? I mean, I'm not sure yet if his character is ... or what. I mean, I guess a straight guy could wear a shirt that says "Born to shop," but he even had a poster on his closet of,..I think it was Rob Lowe,...and man, check out some of his other outfits in this movie.

Summary: SO-SO
Review: THE MOVIE IS MORE TARGETED TO THE TEENAGER VIEWER. THE SPECIAL EFFECTS IN THIS ONE ARE VERY GOOD. WATCHING THE VAMPIRES FLY THROUGH THE AIR. VAMPIRES ON HARLEY'S? A NEW TWIST. THE ENDING IS A SURPRISE WHEN YOU FIND OUT WHO THE RING LEADER OF THIS BLOOD SUCKING CLAN. IT'S NOT SCARY, IT SHOULD BE IN THE ACTION/COMEDY LIST. COREY HAIM AND JASON PATRIC ARE BELIEVABLE AS BROTHERS AND THEIR MOTHER IS JUST A DITZ, WHO SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD CHILDREN. HOW COULD YOU NOT NOTICE THAT YOUR SON IS TURNING INTO A VAMPIRE IS BEYOND ME. NOT REALLY WORTH THE TIME IF YOUR ARE A HORROR FAN.

Summary: The Best Vampire movie I have EVER seen!
Review: I thought it was really cool, and had some good special effects in it.The best part of it I thought was th grandpa saying what he said.I also liked watching Corey Haim and Jason Patric's performance. The best actors I think were Jason Patric and Corey Haim,Corey Haim in some parts was HALARIOS. The motorcycle gang was silly, funny and kind of WIERD. The BEST actor I think was Jason Patric, he was really cool and a goood actor.Corey Haim was pretty good to, but nobody's performance compared to Jason's.The actor who played Star was really good too,her performance almost compared to Jason's but wasnt as good as his. The end was really sad, cool, horrifying, and halarios.I liked how real the vampires looked, all I can say is the movie is THE COOLEST VAMPIRE MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN.Not too much blood, and not too much gore, just right for a good vampire movie.

Summary: Never Never Land Was Never Like This...
Review: This film is really more of a comedy than it is a drama, which is not surprising given that the heroes are teenage boys trying to stay one step ahead of the blood-sucking undead. This is not a great film, but it is fun if you accept the premise, which is, "What would happen if you discovered there were vampires in the neighborhood?" Besides, Keifer Sutherland has always been a good bad guy ever since "Stand By Me." "The Lost Boys" is not a chiller and was not intended to be, so this is a vampire film that is going to be appropriate for young teens. You have to admit, there are not many of those around.

Summary: Funny ha ha not funny strange
Review: Its more comedy than horror as I don't do horrors normally but still I loved this. Picture the scene you are 18 years old(or so) and you move to the murder capital of the world. I like Michael would be unimpressed. The acting by Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland is particularly good and even the gory bits are bearable. I'm trying hard to justify giving it 5 stars but it is good. I wouldn't lie believe me. Eagle eyed viewers will spot Alex Winter (Bill S Preston Esquire) in the role of a vampire here. By far the funniest scenes are the dinner scene where Sam and the Frog Brothers try to prove that Max is the head vampire and also the scene where Sam is given a stuffed animal by his grandfather not funny you would think but its his reaction to it. I never watch the horrors but I own this on video and it is watched regularly. It also contains the excellent song People are Strange.

Summary: The definition of a guilty pleasure
Review: I think everyone has one movie that they absolutely love, that will not make any greatest movie of all time lists. For me its The Lost Boys. While the plot is sufficient and the acting is decent, what makes this film one of my favorites is its style. The cool clothes, music and overall atmosphere are the things really worth seeing here. From the opening scene, which shows the unusual people at a California amusement park while playing a remake of The Doors' "People Are Strange" (done by Echo and the Bunnymen) to the surprising one liner ending, you will love it. Fun from beginning to end!

Summary: this movie just plain rules.
Review: i am a big fan of.....ok i forget his name but he was in the goonies and a bunch of other movies too. this is his best movie. i friggin love his character in this. this is one of the few good movies that came out of the 80's along with some great stuff like Ferris Bueller's Day Off. and the music from the 80's? aside from stuff like the clash and sex pistols, music was horrible. The Lost Boys is one of the best movies from the 80's. i just love it, thats all i have to say. when i first saw it i was just like "hell yeah!" This is a classic for me and i reccomend it to any kid like me.......

Summary: Classic Vamp Tale
Review: In a genre not know for quality (Blade, Bram Stokers Dracula), The Lost Boys actually manages to stand out as one of the better Vampyre flicks. In his campy vamp time capsule of Eighties chic, Schumacher uses a cast jam-packed with Bop bigshots along with gory comic book goofiness to tell his story of hip nightstalkers in the fictional "murder capital of the world" Santa Carla (real-life Santa Cruz). For these wayward cool kids of the night, it's all mesh tops and mousse, long hair and leather jackets (plus one dangling earring). But equally as interesting is looking at these actors in terms of their career tracks: Watch then-unknown Jason Patric debut his with then-cool Kiefer Sutherland; watch Jami Gertz in her brief stint as a screen siren; watch the two Coreys at the 14-minute mark; and who knew Dianne Wiest was in this thing? Unlike more complicated takes in the vampyre canon, Lost Boys maintains a fairly blue-collar attitude toward the mythology: It's just holy water, blood sucking, and stakes through the heart. Highly recommended Vampyre entertainment.

Summary: Average adolescent horror
Review: In a movie such as this, plot is almost an optional extra. More important is slick production, editing which keeps the pace up, special effects, humour and a closing scene in which the monsters are slain and the girl is rescued with an appropriate mix of blood and visual jokes. We get all of these here in a film which really knows what it is setting out to do.

For what it's worth, the plot has two brothers moving into Santa Carla on the California coast. They rapidly discover that the local biker gang are vampires and they set out to destroy them. On the way, they encounter the pretty girl and the freelance vampire slayers who are working undercover in a comic shop. They suspect that their mother's new boyfriend is the chief vampire but he seems impervious to garlic so what to try next?

The one thing that seems to be odd about this film is that it was released with an R certificate (it got a 15 in the UK) despite the fact that this cuts right into the target audience.

If you liked this film and wonder what an adult version would look like if scripted by Tarantino then check out "From Dust Till Dawn" because that's exactly what it is.
