Summary: Dude, Where's My Knife?
Review: I don't know what else I can say that hasn't already been said. I think I'll try to go against the grain and think of reasons not to get this movie.

....uh. Bellbottoms. If George Lucas can add in Jabba the Hutt twenty years later, maybe John Carpenter can go back and paint in some Dungarees or leather pants. Mmmmm. Jamie Lee Curtis in leather pants. ... That reminds me of another flaw -- there's just no way in Hades that that guy could land P J Soles.

Seriously, masterpiece doesn't even begin to describe John Carpenter's Halloween. The framing, the MUSIC~, the performances, everything just...clicks, ya know. No other Carpenter work comes close to rivaling the suspense in Halloween. The Fog and The Thing are good, not great. I guess you just have to be lucky sometimes.

I used to have it in the full frame version. That was a crime. You couldn't even see the garage murder. It looked like she just had a heart attack and fell into the steering column. Ditto for the scene when P J Soles and that guy are making out on the couch. The camera pulls back to reveal Michael Myers standing there watching them. For years I had no idea what the scary music was for. No worries now, though. 2.35:1 Babee!

The music -- where do I start? It's so...simple. Just like the film. Good vs. [Bad]. They should start out piano students with this instead of scales.

TV VERSION~ I love the scene where Dr. Loomis visits a young Michael Myers. No Druids. No Man with the Thorn. Just good psychotic fun.

The DVD is great, but with a glaring exception. I'll get to that. The trailers are awesome and trailer-cutters of today could take a lesson. No big plot points revealed, no "it's all in the trailer" scenes. Just looking at a house. The ominous voice of a narrator. I think he did every horror movie trailer from 74-84. The documentaries are also good. It would have been interesting to see Michael Myers with a clown mask. Clowns. Shudder. The one glaring omission is the lack of director commentary. I may be wrong, but I heard that the Laserdisc (what's that?) version had a commentary track from Carpenter. Oh well, he reveals a lot on the documentaries anyway.

Go down the street... and get this DVD!!!

Summary: Trick or Treat.
Review: The best scary movies are the ones that remember this rule: the less you have to show, the better because the human mind can imagine things far worse than anything on the screen. John Carpenter used to know this and that's the reason that HALLOWEEN is such a success and so much better than the sequels that followed. By then Carpenter was rolling in the dough and forgot his roots. I'm not completely sure why but many first time directors make these awesome pictures on shoe-string budgets then in later years after they are given all the resources and manpower they need, they make nothing but garbage (look what happened to Sly Stone with ROCKY).

Anyway, HALLOWEEN is a great horror movie. Granted by the ultraviolent and gore-laden horror films of the present day, the movie seems a bit tame and to some even a little cheesy. However, HALLOWEEN is the father of modern horror (the granddaddy is PSYCHO). The FRIDAY THE 13TH and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and even the SCREAM franchises would be nonexistant if it wasn't for HALLOWEEN.

HALLOWEEN is made even more scary because of where it takes place, even after over twenty years since it's initial release, the small town atmosphere of the movie resembles just about any small town or suburb in America. The story revolves around Michael Myers, a man who has been in institutionalized care since murdering his older sister on Halloween night fifteen years ago. On the eve before Halloween, Myers escapes from the institution to return to his hometown to haunt and hunt a high school girl named Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). However, Myers isn't the only one hunting, he's being hunted by his doctor, Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance).

HALLOWEEN was the film that started Jamie Lee Curtis' career and also made John Carpenter the heir of horror. The film has a believable plot, examining the nature of evil. The movie also has some of the most chilling music of any film of suspense. It's a classic.

Summary: AWESOME MOVIE!!!!
Review: If you and your friends want a good scare on Halloween, this is THE movie to see. Jamie Lee Curtis is a great actress and plays the part really well. What makes this movie really great, is that it could really happen. Another thing that makes this movie great is the plot.

Summary: Not as good as I thought I would be.
Review: I was so excited to rent this movie. I wanted to see it so bad because, they showed parts of it in Scream (that was the best movie ever). This was okay. I didn't think that they would show so much nudity and otha stuff. I don't think that it should be named a classic but, it was better than most horror movies. It kept you at the edge of your seat and kept you thinking. It wasn't as scary as Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer but it was entertaining.

Summary: One of the best Horror Films Ever Made!!!!
Review: This movie is the classic horror film that even today sends chills down some people's spine! You would think it is just another slasher film but it's not because without this film the slasher genre would not have became as big as it is today. John Carpenter is a genius for making this film! It is his best! It also has better acting than other slasher films. Friday the 13th or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre or A Nightmare on Elm Street don't even compare to this masterpiece! It even has a really good score! This and The Believers are my two favorite horror films and I think they always will be, at least this one anyway. If you havn't seen this film yet see it and see what you think. This masterpiece deserves 5 stars!

Summary: Great slasher
Review: This movie is legendary and very influential. The style is great, music adds to the tension, and I like the killer's eye view from behind the mask, that was brilliant. The trip to the mental hospital was scary, from then on you know nobody is safe. The last half of the movie is very well done, Michael Myers is no Jason Voorhees but he can still cause a lot of mayhem. Part 2 is just as good.

Summary: THE best slasher film ever made!
Review: HALLOWEEN is probably one of the first slasher films ever put upon the screen, and is THE best and most shocking. John Carpenter's music perfectly accentuates the atmosphere and each surprise in the film will definately scare you out of your wits! Jamie Lee Curtis is especially memorable as Laurie Strode, the sweet, innocent babysitter who is stalked by madman Michael Myers- who, as we learn in HALLOWEEN II (which is an excellent follow-up to HALLOWEEN), is her brother.

The film starts in 1961, when little six-year-old Michael Myers murders his sister with a butcher knife on Halloween. Fast-forward to 1978, where Michael has escaped from the mental institution where he was residing, on Halloween Eve. The night after- Halloween- he starts to stalk the babysitters in the Haddonfield area, and finally sets his eyes on one- Laurie Strode.

Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence in a magnificent role), Michael's psychiatrist, is hot on his trail- but will he make it, before it is too late?

This "little" film has gained a HUGE cult status as one of the scariest films made, and one of the most successful independent films. It is a must-see, DO NOT miss it!
