Rating: Summary: A great film, that could've been better! Review: Surprisingly this DVD release is the Theatrical R rated version. An unrated version with two restored gorrier effects sequences was released on VHS in 1989. Why is this the edited version. The deleated shots are not even included as extras. What gives?
Rating: Summary: A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child Review: IT'S A BOY!
THIS ONE WASEN'T SO GOOD. BECAUSE IT WAS GOTHIC AND IT TRIED TO BE TOO SERIOUS. THIS IS THE ONE THAT I TRULY HATE IN THE SERIES.
THE SPEICAL FEATURES IN THIS DVD ARE:
1.THEATRICAL TRAILER
2.CAST AND CREW
3.JUMP TO A NIGHTMARE MENU
THERE IS OVER A MINUTE OF SPECIAL FEATURES ON THIS DVD!
Rating: Summary: It really was a nightmare. Review: What a pain this one was to watch. After the enjoyable previous two movies, I had to put up with this thing. And get this- I fell asleep four times at the movie's climax. I wasn't even tired, had drank Code Red Mountain Dew, and yet I managed to doze off a few times during the final scene. Not good. I like the Nightmare series and Freddy, but yeah, this should've ended with the last one. What was that Amanda said about burying his bones to lay him down to rest for good? I guess no one told Freddy about that. I'd really like to say something good about this one, but I can't off the top of my head. Aside from Freddy being charming as usual, there's just nothing going for it.
Starting out the movie, we're shown a little back story to Amanda Kreuger: freddy's mom and how she ended up giving birth to the "bastard son of 100 fathers". It's probably the only cool sequence in the movie if only because of the tone. But it ends quickly, and we're back with Alice, the protagonist from the last installment. She's having dreams about Freddy again for some reason. This time, he's showing up and mentioning that he'll come back through her. What that means, she doesn't know at first, but Amanda shows up in the dreams to say that he can't win. Blah blah blah, the same usual thing happens. Alice tells her friends about Freddy and they call her crazy. Her boyfriend Dan (also seen in NoES4) believes her and is concerned, but he's also turned into somewhat of a jerk. Now he's just 2 notches below "stereotypical jock". Sadly, Alice's friends aren't that interesting, and have boring deaths save for one involving a cartoonist. And even then it reminded me of A-Ha's "Take On Me" video. Oh, I guess I should mention why Alice is having dreams if she supposivedly killed Freddy off. She's pregnant, and since babies can dream while in the whomb, Freddy's appearing based off that. Original eh? One more time, it's up to Alice and one of her friends to end Freddy once and for all [part 5], this time by finding where his mom's body is. Man this is just going too far. I'm hesitant to watch the final two movies in this series, but I doubt they're as bad as this one was.
The picture and audio are much better than the first two NoES movies. And the Dolby 5.1 mix is fantastic. I swear I'd hear some things right behind me, and I don't even have a surround sound set-up. Crashes, cuts, explosions all sound incredible, and as usual, they did a good job cleaning it all up. I wish they would've had more going on with the visuals as a whole though. In the last few NoES movies, we got some cool make-up, but here it looks pretty silly. When Freddy's stuffing one girl/victim's face full of food, it looks like they just took Silly Putty and slapped it on her cheeks. You can even see some cracks in the material used. And Freddy's own "death" didn't have a lot going on for it either. What a shame. But when the comic geek gets killed off, I'll give it one whole extra star for that because that one was pretty creative, and the use of colors was great.
And...once again for the special features...we get nothing at all. Where the first film had a boring commentary, at least it had something. Every other NoES hasn't had diddly. Once more, this saves time in the special features space for my review here. And I'll stress it again in case you haven't read my reviews for the other ones- save up and just get the box set. At least that sucker has a whole disc dedicated to extras. My NoES reviews are getting shorter and shorter thanks to this.
If you're like me and want to see the series in full, then I guess there's no getting around this one. But I can't reccomend any reason for watching/purchasing this on its own. The movie itself sucks, there are no special features to speak of (not even Easter Eggs), and it's much cheaper to get the movies in the box set than it is one at a time. Sorry Freddy, you lost your pep in this one. Here's to hoping the next two are good.
Rating: Summary: A Nightmare on Elm Street 5:The Dream Child Review: Another classic Freddy movie! This time, ol' Freddy posseses an unborn baby who happens to be Alice's. The plot, while a bit confusing, is quite deep in this one. Cool kills, and lots of fun. We also learn more about Freddy, like how he got born. So get some popcorn and a Pepsi, and enjoy!!
