Rating: Summary: Ooh, scary... NOT!!! Review: After taking a look at the second entry in the 'Nightmare on Elm Street' canon, I can't say I found it all that scary. Sure there were a few moderately gruesome scenes, but overall I wasn't exactly shocked or all that nauseated by what played out on the screen. 'Course, after enduring many a moment of genuinely hideous over-the-top gore from films like 'Predator', 'Total Recall', and 'Starship Troopers', I guess it was a given I'd be somewhat disappointed by the not-as-meaty stuff shown here. Adding to this flick's hokiness factor was a subpar makeup job on Robert "Freddy" Englund; the guy's "burn" didn't look nearly as realistic here as it did the first go-'round. It looks like they just threw some semi-jelled rubber cement compound on him, then tried to get around how silly it looked by filming him primarily in shadows or from behind. And don't get me started on those brownish-red contact lenses that try to make him look menacing for the close-up shots of his eyes... Bottom line: unless you're a 'Nightmare' completist, or you like to laugh at the slasher-horror genre's sillier attempts to scare ya-- which is something I like to do-- 'Nightmare 2' is a skipper. Sweet dreams... 'Late
Rating: Summary: Just An Inch Worse Than The First. Still A Must See!!!! Review: Now, first, before I type my review, lets get this straight, this film, quite enjoyable, really gets 4 1/2 stars This film picks up precisely 5 years after the original "A Nightmare On Elm Street" and is very close to being as good as the original!!! Jesse Walsh (Mark Patton) is a geeky nerd who has moved to a new house on Elm Street, the very same house that Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp of A Nightmare On Elm Street, A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors, and Wes Craven's New Nightmare) once lived in, and once battled demon Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). But, shortley after Jesse moves into the house, he begins to feel strange, and on occasions he does strange things. He is also having dreams of Freddy, but he does not understand them. Freddy is telling him "Kill For Me" and Jesse is frightened. He asks his new girlfriend, Lisa (Kim Myers) for help. Yet Lisa believes that Jesse is picking up some psychic signals. Meanwhile, at home,Jesse's parents (Hope Lange and Clu Gulager) believe he's on drugs. But, what Jesse does not know is that Freddy is getting inside him and controlling his actions..... This one is usually credited as the worst of the series, but I must disagree. This one, I will admit, has very little character development, but Freddy Krueger is still a horrible disfiqured demon, and the makeup effects are terrific, the best of the series. Freddy is so slimy, and grotesque!!! Another good thing here is acting. I know that most people say this one has laughable acting, not true. Mark Patton plays Jesse very realistically, and you feel bad for him. Kim Myers is excellent as Lisa, who won't except that Jesse may be turning into a psychopath, and keeps her love for him true. Jack Sholder directed this entry with good style, and builds some great suspense scenes and some very good, fast paced scenes. This DVD includes both a 1:85:1 widescreen ratio giving the view seen in theatres, and a 1:66:1 standard version to fit your screen. There are production notes and a "Jump To A Nightmare" scene navigation. If you want more information or behind the scenes footage, get the box set and watch the eighth disk (The Nightmare Series Encyclopedia). I think this one is a great entry, just a tad behind the first. Buy it!!!! It's worth it!!! 4 1/2 Stars!!!
Rating: Summary: Just when you thought it was safe to sleep Review: Jesse Walsh is the new kid on Elm Street, living in the familiar house of past-owner Nancy Thompson. Just like Nancy did, Jesse has horrible nightmares of a horribly burnt man with knives for fingers. As the dreams intensify, Jesses' personality begins to change as Freddy Krueger begins to take over the poor boys' body. Soon he becomes possessed and has urges to kill. Now Jesse, with the help of his female friend must find out how to banish this night-stalker back down to Hell, or the history of the murders on Elm Street will start again.
I have to say I really didn't like this movie. I gave it a chance, but wasn't satisfied with what it presented. First of all Nancy was nowhere to be seen in this movie. Also, it has stupid things that wouldn't scare a three year-old, Birds going crazy? Come on! anyone could right better then that. Secondly, Freddys' make-up looks more like wrinkles then burns. The movie just goes from bad to worse. The first one was great, scary, and suspenseful. This one accomplished nothing but boring it's audience. One of the most outragious muck-ups was the ending. Freddy somehow comes into the real world and still has his powers. Not suppose to happen, Freddy has no powers in the real world, only the dream world. This confuses and anoys the audience more then anything else. I actually read that the writers had no idea that Freddys' powers only worked in the Dream World, perhaps they should have done their research. The acting was okay, but the kid that played Jesse was just annoying and girlish. He screamed, moaned and did nothing to help his girlfriend Lisa get rid of the monster inside him. Although I'm not too sure about this, but a subplot could be about Jesse exploring and questioning his sexuality.
Perhaps the biggest let-down of this film was the gore level. I only remember seeing little blood and all about two deaths, none of them remotely interesting.
If the first 'Nightmare' is the only one you've seen and you want more, skip this one and go watch the third installment, a great movie that won't let you down. You don't even need to see the second to understand the third.
Overall, things that didn't make sense, girlish characters, no gore, and silly pointless scenes add up to a bad movie.
Skip this and go to the awsome third movie in this series, titled 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.'
Rating: Summary: A really great horror/slasher film! Review: Jack Sholder did an excellent job on this film. Fred or Freddy Krueger is still extremely sadistic in this installment to the original one. In fact he's like the same exact Freddy from the first one except he's not in the dark anymore, he's very out in the open in this one. The special effects were quite good, not excellent of course, but good. Also the second NOES installment has a higher body count than any of the other films. Even though the first NOES is still best one in the series. This film really shaped Freddy Krueger into what he would become known as in the later sequels. This film contains a lot of graphic violence and gore, and Freddy is scary as hell in this film. It's the exact same Freddy from the first one, except he's not in the dark anymore. This is the first NOES film where we get to see Freddy completely out in the open. Anyway here's what the movie is about. Freddy Krueger was sent back to Hell by Nancy played by Heather Legenkamp, who is in my opinion a very hot looking girl. Five years later after she moves out of the Krueger house, a new family moves in, The Walsh family. The Walsh family has no idea what demonic being is lurking in their house. Also their son Jesse is being tormented by Freddy every night in his dreams. Eventually he gets possessed by Freddy Krueger, and ends up doing his evil deeds, even though he doesn't want to. Can the boy be able to overcome Freddy, and or will end up losing his soul to him. Great special effects, good plot, decent acting, make this one the third best in the series after Dream Warriors. Overall it's a must see if you really love horror films and/or NOES film series.
Rating: Summary: interesting story Review: just as sick and twisted and funny as the first
see this
it will creep you out just as much as the first one did
like the part in this one where freddy comes out of Jesse's body. sick and disgusting. i'll never eat food while watching that part again. never. truly a shocking follow up. glad I have this on dvd
Rating: Summary: Helloooo Freddy Krueger is a DREAM stalker... Review: When A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE was released to home video in 1986 the music track had been altered.
The song "HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A DREAM WALKING" by BING CROSBY (which played over the end credit scroll) had been removed for legal reasons, and replaced with music from the films opening title score. This DVD release is the original theatrical version and restores the missing Crosby classic. THANKS NEW LINE!!!!!
Incidently, I'd like anyone who dislikes this film to give it a second look.
Its really a pretty good sequel. Fans of the original who disliked this one usually site the fact that Freddy's Revenge has a different premise than the original and is nothing like it. True. But that's why I like it. Its a fresh
take on the same character. Retreading the same material over and over is what made later instalments of the series so weak and repetative. Freddy returns and tries a diffent approach to getting more victims. If his tactics in the first film failed, it makes sense for him to try something new. Get it? Try watching it without comparing it to the original and you may enjoy it. I have to admit that of the original trilogy,
Part 2 is the weakest. But that's not so bad when you consider how great 1 and 3 were. Also consider that had it not been for the huge popularuty
of Freddy's Revenge there would have been no Dream Warriors. Freddys Revenge establishes the character of Freddy that we know today. In part one he was very different, in appearance and personality. He was alot more serious and (in prints of that era) not even visible really (Newer prints are alot brighter than the ones in the 80s. Back then you couldnt really even se Freddy in part one). The make-up, costume and wisecracks that we asociate with Freddy were all established in Part 2. Thanks Jack Shoulder! (and thanks for The Hidden also:)) Freddy's Revenge may not be as good Part 1 or Part 3 but as horror movies go, its pretty damn good. Next time you see it, say to yourself "I could be watching Creepshow 2" and youll feel alot better about Part 2.
Also, next time your watching Part 4: The Dream Master, say to yourself
"This movie doesn't make a lick of sense" and you'll relise that is also true.
Rating: Summary: Easily the worst! Review: HE'S BACK,BUT HE IS NOT HAPPY.
I GUESS THIS ONE WAS ALRIGHT. IT DIDN'T REALLY FOLLOW THE FIRST ONE. BUT MY FAVORITE DEATH HAS TO BE. WELL I DON'T HAVE A FAVORITE DEATH SCENE. ALSO THAT DVD IS NO GOOD. ONLY ONE TRAILER,CAST AND CREW, AND JUMP TO A NIGHTMARE MENU, I GUESS THIS IS ONE IN THE SERIES THAT ISEN'T GREAT
THERE IS OVER I MINUTE OF SPECIAL FEATURES IN THIS DVD!
Rating: Summary: Get out of my house! Review: After reading the reviews on this film on this site, I decided to go out and purchase the first and second one. The first one was great, but I can't say so much about this "film".
What we get in this slapped together tragedy is a white house on Elm Street, ugly chicks, '80's cliches, hazy logic, tons of gay undertones, male nudity, S & M refrences, and just an ounce of Freddy.
The begining was great, with Freddy driving the bus with a bunch of '80's chicks and our main character. After that, we see 1428 Elm Steet and a very dysfunctional family. The main character, Jessie (what a feminine name), has been dreaming about Freddy. So Freddy comes to Jessie one night and delivers his message that he wants to take over his body. Unfortunetly, for Freddy, Jessie is a weak, annoying, sissy of a man. And boy, he screams better than Jaime Lee Curtis, Linda Blair, Neve Campbell, and Sarah Michelle Gellar combined.
Then the movie drags on and Lisa (pretty name and voice, ugly chick) comes over and see little Jessie playing some Salt & Pepper on the radio and dancing to it like he's some kind of male exotic dancer. They uncover a diary written by Nancy from the far superior first one. Jessie has also heard things about the house from a popular guy from school named Grady (Jessie's lover). Somehow, Jessie walks out of his house at night after a bird combusts in thin freakin air!! How the hell is that supposed to happen?! Jessie even screams better than his sister. He He!
I don't know if Jessie had a fantasy about his gym teacher (who is into S&M stuff) or what cause he walked in the pourin rain to a leather bar in the middle of the night to see him. The gym teacher spots him and takes him back to school and makes him run laps, climb rope and do push ups before he tells him to "hit the showers". Man, that gym teacher must love to see little Jessie and Grady in the showers. His gym teacher gets killed off in a very offensive manner. Jessie then gets all panicky and more and more feminine as the movie progresses. Lisa is falling in love with him, but Jessie doesn't want her, he wants Grady. That's why at the pool party Freddy tried to ruin it between him and Lisa. His dad thinks he's on drugs and his mom thinks he's flipped his wig.
Jessie eventually tries to kill little sister one night and then goes to school. The scene at lunch gave the most evidence to Jessie and Grady's little "relationship" because Jessie was feeling down and Grady wanted to take him to a movie. How sweet.
ANYWAYZ...
Jessie then goes to the party and him and Lisa make it to second base and they're all on the floor makin out. Then Jessie sneaks into Grady's room (Hmmm...I wonder how he knew how to sneak into his room so good...he's had practice) and asks his lover if he can make sure he keeps him awake. Grady eventually tries to go to sleep and is killed off by Freddy/Jessie in his underwear. The rest of the movie is so corny.....you won't believe!!
Mmm-kay... how can Freddy just enter the real world at will? The first one clearly states that he only parade around in dreams and he has to get pulled out of a dream to come into the real world. Why did a bird combust into thin air and temperatures in the house reach 90 something degrees if Freddy had not gotten into the real world yet? Sometimes I think Mr. Walsh (Jessie's Papi) was right and the Jessie did put a cherry bomb into his kid sister's parakeet. What a mean big brother to have. That was all rubbish. The plot at time did not make damn sense. And all those '80's fashions were a laugh. And why did Freddy wanna possess some gay boy? This is not "The Exorcist"! Yes this movie is basically a rip off of "The Exorcist". See the first one was fast paced and scary. This one was slow and a little low in the scares department. And the whole Freddy ripping outta Jessie's body was disgusting not scary. It was sick. I liked the cast from the first one, but this cast were horrible! And the main character.........some cross between Marc Singer and Mark Hamill. And he is over-acting like anything. He is on some serious method or something. I know it's a semi-serious movie, but come on, there's no reason for all the super-fancy acting. Jessie is a weak man and don't even get me started on Lisa (Kim Meyers who is Meryl Streep's little sister who couldn't act cute)who looks rather fetching in a one piece swim suit, who can't act to save her life. And I really don't get the snake part. What the hell was that all about? Jessie was a real man-lover. He had the finger pointing, the high-pitched whiny voice, and just look at his eyes in the bedroom scene with Grady. There is pure love in Jessie's eyes that I can only compare it to husband and wife after not seeing each other for five years. Jessie killed him.
The ending is what really killed this movie. The ending was one terrible piece of rubbish about how much she wanted Jessie back and some other stuff. Oh well Jessie does come back and it was so stupid how they killed Freddy on this one. I guess the theme is "love conquers all". I don't know what they were thinking when they wrote this utter junk. The first film was about not falling alseep....this film makes you fall asleep. The chicks are about as hot as a December day in Vancouver, British Columbia. And they're all whiny and stupid, especially the one wit the '80's greasy mop hair who was always sexual. The acting is so over the top from everyone except the kid sister who barely had any screen time. Freddy even had more screen time than the little brat and that's really saying something. Freddy didn't get nearly as much screen time as he did in this film's predecessor. All Freddy does is appear in dark shadows and smoke and steam you can never really get a good look at him. And them brownish contact lenses needed to stay in the contact lens case. Okay....Okay.....okay I recant my statement, Robert Englund did do a good job on his acting part, but he alone couldn't save this terrible movie.
So with terrible acting, twisted homosexual subplots, '80's fashions and wit all the wit and sagacity of a dead kitten and with more cliched idocy than you'll know how to handle, please bring a pillow, your teddy bear and a bottle before veiwing this movie, you're bound to fall asleep.
Rating: Summary: It Should have Stopped Here!! Review: A Nightmare on Elm Street Rules. It was a great idea
for a spooky horror film. I think that Part 2: Freddy's
Revenge is not as good as the original, But a totally
awesome Sequel. BUT...
I think it should have ended here. Another reveiwer
wrote that this movie contradicts the first movie by
letting Freddy come to life and kill kids at
a pool party, this is true. But I think it was a cool
idea to change things a bit. Take it a step further from
the first movie. It's like the movie Aliens. Who wouldn't
be freaked out by Freddy bursting out of your stomach and
possesing your body and you cant control it, Or
sleepwalking and not remembering that you just killed
someone??
Awesome idea for a movie, They just should have ended it
here before it got more 'Campy' and 'Cheesy' in Part 3 and Part 4.
Rating: Summary: Average sequel...worthless dvd. Review: Recently I've been watching a lot of the more well-known horror movies. Just the other day, I went through the first Nightmare On Elm Street, which was a pretty good movie. Of course, it did so well that a sequel was just waiting to happen. What we get here though, is just...I don't know. On its own, it'd be an alright movie. As a sequel, it just barely passes for average. As a few other reviewers have already stated, it contradicts a few things from the first film. Freddy can only kill in his dreams right? Well he somehow manages to take over the hero in this one, and run wild during a party at night, taking out a few teens for fun. I guess if you watched it without having high standards for it, you'll enjoy it.
We start out with a quick dream sequence, where Freddy is driving a school bus with 3 kids right into the desert, where they're about to die...but our protagonist, Jesse wakes up [screaming like a total chicken-wuss]. He runs down stairs, and it's here that most fans from the first NOES will notice that he's in the house that the Thompsons lived in. His family has moved into the house, but Jesse doesn't seem to be aware of the situation just 5 years before. He heads off to school where Ron, a popular guy at school, tells him about what happened in that house, and Jesse doesn't take it seriously. The gym teacher meanwhile, who is apparently into bondage, has them do push-ups after class after insulting him. Later, Jesse's friend Lisa helps him unpack in his room. They find a journal from Nancy, describing all her nightmares that had Freddy involved. It begins to explain the dreams he's been having lately, but there's also something else going on. Freddy told Jesse, in his dreams, that he's going to help him kill. And he does. Not very much, mind you, only 2 people. But at least one of them was that jerk of a gym teacher. We see Freddy doing the killing, and the victims see him do it as well, but after it's all over, he reverts back to Jesse. Yeah, it doesn't make much sense, but it's still enjoyable. How does it all end? About the same as the first Nightmare. In fact, aside from the whole Freddy taking over deal, it's identical to the first movie in the series.
The picture and audio weren't too bad. If it's like the first movie at all, they just transfered the laserdisc version onto dvd and left it. The picture was pretty good, but it was shakey in a few parts, which got a little annoying. It'd be nice if it got the same treatment as Halloween did not too long ago, where everything was completely restored and looked fantastic. The audio never got too fuzzy or anything, so no real complaints there. It could've been remastered as well though.
Wanna guess what the special features are on the dvd? You can listen to the movie in mono. That's all. If you already have it on VHS, you're better off just saving money by keeping that version. I don't know if any extras were added for the box set version of this movie, or if they even touched it, but I don't honestly see any reason picking up this version. I guess that saves me a lot of time reviewing this portion of it.
All in all, Freddy's Revenge...hey, I just noticed that. It's called "Freddy's Revenge", but he doesn't really get revenge on anyone. That's pretty stupid. But it's still an alright movie. Hopefully the third one fares much better. And it looks like it will judging by its average rating on here compared to this one.
