Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Impressive!
Review: Although very good, there is not much to say about it. I scared me the first time I watched it, and that is remarkable if you got to know me! I might even consider checking out Clive's book, and that is saying alot because I hardly read! And lastly, Virginia Madsen is really great in this movie, likewise the scary Tony Todd.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED( If you can HANDLE it ).

3 1/2 out of 4 stars

Summary: 4 3/4 stars-is more accurate
Review: I am personally not a fan of horror films, their attempts to thrill never work at- least not on me- and for that reason this could never be a 5star film.

However certain scenes in this film -all in the first half-contain genious cinematography and imagery all worthy of an art house film. From the surreal first shot of the swarms of bees over chicago to the title shot taken from a helicopter- flying over a highway, this film contains some of the most interesting imagery shot in the last ten years.

The score by Philip Glass -which I've transcribed- is highly sinister and adds much to the atmosphere, the actings is generally good and the story quite exciting.

Unfortunately the second half of the film contains too many 'thriller' sequences (ala 'nightmare on elmstreet' / 'Scream') which are not particularily thrilling, and eventually descend into tedium and comic.
However the story is rather dark the dialogue is not always high quality.

So, despite some of the most sinister images ever committed to celluloid the film itself is never chilling enough and becomes all too predictable in the second half.
Still I definately recommend watching it as an excellent but deeply flawed film, but not as a scary movie.

Actually scary movies are ,par example :'Rosemary's Baby' ,'Dont look now' ,'Wicker Man'

Summary: CANDYMAN
Review: CANDYMAN is a horror film about a college student named Helen who is doing research on urban legends. Helen decides to write a paper about 'Candyman' - a killer with a hook for a hand who will appear behind you when you say his name three times in front of a mirror and split your body in half with his hook. Helen decides to see if Candyman is real or if he's just a legend, so she says his name three times in front of a mirror...and soon, she discovers that Candyman is very real! This film literally scared me the first time I saw it because it's very suspensful and intense. The film is based on a short story written by horror author Clive Barker.

Summary: Just forget about the sequels, and it's all gold!
Review: It is a shame that in this day and age of filmmaking, sequels are the norm for pretty much any and every film. In the case of "Candyman," the poor quality of a film's sequels can almost ruin the experience of watching the original. That is, ALMOST. Luckily, "Candyman" has so many things going for it - a great plot, a fantastic score, wonderful acting (especially the menacing Tony Todd as the Candyman), and an overall mood very few horror films have these days... It just blows my mind that this film was even given the greenlight. Thank goodness it was.

Summary: Strangely fun , but essentially poor
Review: Typical of Clive Barker's notion of blood/gore ,sudden shocks appeal he drew on in his previous feature Hellraiser,Candyman features horrormeister Tony Todd as the titular bogeyman who appears out the mirror whenever you say his name five times. There are a few impressive sudden jerk moments (which were actually worked to better effect in the sequel),there is an effective cold, eerie tone to each of the scenes in the film and it certainly had quite a cult following when it was released back in 1992.But it does suffer from a fair number of flaws, not least the simple premise of the film itself:put it this way,to spite the 18 certificate ,if any minors see the film and have nightmares about it,all you have to do is stand in front of a mirror and do what the film suggests to prove to them it's not real.

Summary: ...CandyMan...
Review: This movie ranks among my horror favourites... The two sequel never had the same type feeling to them, Tony Todd & Virginia Madsen is a great combo... If you didn't know it's about a guy who got killed, and was ate alive by bees... Now he can only comeback if you call out his name 5 (NOT 3) times. Virginia Madsen (Who plays a reporter) does that.. and that was a huge mistake... The best scenes are shot in the projects, Cabini Green, which apparently is a BAD neighbourhood... and it all works well!

Summary: Horror of the highest order from a master storyteller.
Review: The incomparable Clive Barker, known for penning such horror classics as "Hellraiser" and "Lord of Illusions", hits the bullseye dead-on with "Candyman," based on yet another of his gripping short stories, "The Forbidden." This is every bit as gory and ghoulishly engrossing as you might expect and plays havoc with your fears more seriously than any sweat-inducing nightmare you've ever had. Unlike the "Scream" trilogy and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," this movie casts a hypnotic spell that haunts your very soul to the core. I dare anyone out there, as a matter of fact, to try and claim they enjoyed a peaceful night's sleep after watching it.

The whole urban legend mythos along with the tie-in to Chicago's Cabrini Green really helps in elevating the suspense level for this film. It goes without saying, as well, that Tony Todd makes an imposing ghostly presence.

I was thoroughly impressed with this film and find it hard to comprehend how any other serious horror fan could not be. If you haven't seen this rare find of a motion picture, please, do yourself a favor and check it out. It belongs in every horror fan's video collection. God Bless you, Clive Barker!

Summary: OK! So you think you're tough?
Review: I challenge you to watch this film and then stand in front of the mirror saying "Candyman" five times.

Bet ya "chicken out" before reaching the last one.

I know that I did!
