Rating: Summary: Been There Done That Bought The Sound Track Got The L.E. DVD Review: And I am not one bit disapointed. I got it and H20 on DVD on the 19th and boy I was blown away. The trailers and tv spots were cool, The documentry was amazing, The movie was undescriable. Especially The tv edition, not only is it the tv cut scenes, but it also contains all of the language and nudity. It is now the only verson to watch. The sound is awsome and you will want to blow all of your speakers on the "Escape From Smiths Grove". They redid all of the thunder and it is beautiful. The wait was well worth it. Be sure to pick it up oon cause I got #29616 and they are nowhere to be found.
Rating: Summary: This DVD rocks! Review: Halloween is a horror work of art, that has great characters and a great story. The 5.1 digital sound just adds wonders to the creepiness of the film. When you watch this film you begin to feel like you are being sucked into the film. John Carpenter intended that to happen. The first shots are wide angle, and then slowely begin to creep inward until the final sequence where every shot in the film are tight and close up. Also the music is fantastic and scary. Carpenter also chose the greatest mask to use for the killer. There is no emotion from the killer which adds to the horror. Halloween is without a doubt the best horror film of all time. With little blood and great character development to the music, you cannont beat this film.
Rating: Summary: Really cool!!! Review: "Halloween" scared me big time. I still freak out when I'm home alone, and now I'll never stay home alone on Halloween. I got asked to babysit on Halloween last year so they could go to a party, and I was like NO WAY!!! I'll never do that now. I even liked the sequel and I usually think that sequels suck. I think the second one was a little scarier than the first one. Plus I live by a hospital, so that really doesn't make me feel better.
Rating: Summary: Halloween: The Definition of Masterpiece Review: I am going to cut straight to the point, John Carpenter's Halloween is the finest horror film ever produced. Filmed with wonderful angles, lighting, and actors, it is filled with every necessity there is to create a wonderful thriller. And who could forget the memorable Halloween theme? Music is a main part of making a great film, and believe me, this movie has it. Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis do a fantastic job and Nick Castle plays an outstanding Michael Myers. There are few words to describe how great this film really is. A great part about the film is that it gets the point across without using excessive blood and gore. Instead it uses shadowing and suspense. I've seen it countless times but everytime I watch it I still get chills. Halloween is purely a masterpiece. Thank you John Carpenter!
Rating: Summary: A brilliant Carpenter movie finally gets the right treatment Review: Hi folks. Forget about every version of Halloween that you may have seen on either video, laserdisc or early DVD transfers. Anchor Bay has just released the newly restored version of Halloween. The special limited double DVD that came out on September 14th brings out the best of Halloween sound and picturewise ever. The movie was painstakingly restored from the original camera negatives and what a picture that is!!! Superb colours and depths, razor sharp video and excellent contrast show Dean Cundeys beautiful cinematography and lighting. The transfer of the picture was personally approved by him. The first DVD of the double set offers the theatrical version of Halloween in both widescreen and pan and scan. The second DVD contains the "TV version" of Halloween restored in widescreen, meaning that the 11 minute footage shot for the 1980 NBC broadcast (USA) was added to the picture. The surprise is that even the TV footage is offered in widescreen making it a rare treat for fans of the movie. The 1980 footage was produced during the shoot for Halloween II, since the NBC people required a few cuts for the TV Version leaving the running time of Halloween a little short. The original cast of Halloween was reassambled in 1980 including Donald Pleasance, Jamie Lee Curtis, P.J. Soles etc. and under J.C. direction the additional scenes were created. What you see on DVD number two of the set is the full Halloween movie in widescreen plus the 11 minutes of the TV footage spliced into the story.(NO cuts!) Those scenes are not so important storywise and I can agree with Carpenter who says that it makes Michael Meyers even more scary the less you know about about his backstory. But who would miss the additional footage if it is available??? I myself prefer the threatrical version since the 11 minutes of the TV version slow down the movie a little bit but hey, I am glad to have those scenes for the first time in Widescreen. Those were only available on the 1994 Criterion Laserdisc release in the United States, but only as isolated scenes in crappy-bad looking full frame. The sound of the restored version of Halloween is another story: DVD one with the cinema version of Halloween was restored in 5.1 Dolby Digital. The music sounds absolute great, crisp and clear. The sound has been completely redesigned and remixed for the Digital Surround world. Directional effects like rainstorm and wind create a creepy atmosphere and nicely dwell upon the rear channels! Of course, only when it really fits and not ALL of the time. As we are told Alan Howarth had his hands on the remixing process of the sound. Great work with a lot of taste for the piece! This is another way of listening to the effects and music and we all know how important this is particular in the case of Halloween. It transforms the picture again into the year 2000 without killing it's spirit (no pun intended!). For the purists out there the original mono soundtrack is also available on the DVD to choose. The sound of the "TV version" is available in mono only. The extras of the special limited edition DVD are great too. There is a 30 minute documentary called "Halloween unsmasked 2000" including new interviews of the cast and crew partly shot on original shooting sights. I don't want to go too much into detail but every time I see Jamie Lee Curtis talk about her work on Halloween I am stunned at her intelligence, her humour, her sympathy and her loyalty towards John Carpenter and Debra Hill. By the way, I could listen to Debra Hill and John Carpenter for hours in a row. Anyway, the docu was really great and enyoable! Apart from that, there are trailers, tv and radio spots, movie trivia and picture galeries availabe on the DVD extras. All in all it makes the new Anchor special edition of Halloween the best that ever happened to a video release of that movie. Pitty, they didnt re-released the new prints in a theatrical run. Well, if you want the DVD double set, you better move fast. It is limited to 21.000 copies. The restored movie only will be availble on September 28th as regular Dolby Digital 5.1 widescreen version. One more thing. Anchor Bay has not regional coded those DVDs. Play them whereever you are, Europe, States, Asia, Australia or Africa it really doesnt matter. Enjoy folks! I am still enjoying!!!
Rating: Summary: Words can't describe this incredible expierence of a DVD!! Review: Wow, what a DVD. The best DVD I have so far. Halloween changed the face of horror in 1978 and had remained the most popular horror flick of all time, and has remained my favorite movie for the past 6 years. The extras on this DVD are endless and brilliant, from TV spots to Halloween 2000: Unmasked, the DVD always never ceases to amaze me. The movie is mastered in THX which makes it so much better looking, the picture is crystal clear as is the Dolby Surround Digital 5.1 Only 30,000 made I'm glad I got mine when I did, its 22,485 even if you have no DVD player, I suggest that you get this amazing and absolutely incredbiel expierence of a DVD!!

Rating: Summary: A "MUST-HAVE" FOR ANY TRUE HALLOWEEN FAN! Review: This DVD edition of Halloween is BRILLIANT. Anchor Bay have totally redeemed themselves by re-releasing the best horror movie of all time. Their first release was badly done. This special edition is so cool. The picture is THX and is so clear (you would think the movie was filmed in the last few years - the only thing that dates it is the clothing/hairstyles etc). The sound (if you are watching with a Dolby Digital receiver) is amazing. The extra features are excellent - a 30 minute documentary that has been very well done with interviews, footage of the locations as they are now and how they made the movie), over 100 behind the scenes photos. It is an excellent DVD and worth the money. Thanks Anchor Bay for re-releasing this classic horror movie!
