Rating: Summary: The one that started it all... Review: "Halloween" is a funhouse, pure and simple. Not much logic, rhyme, or reason, but John Carpenter made every effort to scare the hell out of his audience. You gotta give him credit for that, because he could have made a lousy film that probably would have netted him as much money. The film opens with a six year boy who stabs his older sister to death on Halloween night, 1963. After fifteen years of silence in a mental hospital, he escapes and returns to his hometown where he stalks three young women. We assume here that they spark that distant memory of his older sister. With his long suffering psychiatrist (Donald Pleasance) on his trail, he seeks new victims on Halloween night. Jamie Lee Curtis makes her debut as feisty Laurie Strode, for which she was paid $8,000. Story development and logic take a back seat to all the scares, but Carpenter knows how to play his audience, and he does it very well. Curtis and Pleasance returned in 1981 for "Halloween II", a respectable but overly graphic sequel that picks up immediately after this one ends. Pleasance returned for three more sequels after that and Curtis returned to the fold in 1998's "Halloween H20".
Rating: Summary: correct information Review: I just wanted to inform the public(who probably picked up on it anyway)that there are no refrences to other horror movie's in halloween.Dr.Sam loomis is just as the name hint's at. He is the shape's doctor(not a cop).I Read ........ review and just wanted to set the record strait. All in all the best suspense/slasher movie ever to grace innocent eye's.
Rating: Summary: The Best Horror Movie Ever Review: You can't deny it... Halloween is the best Horror movie ever made. It was also one of the first. It's not too gory, and not boring. Michael Myers is at his perverted best in this film, as he is stalking Laurie Strode and killing off her friends. Yes, the ending does lead to a sequel, (Halloween 2), but after that there are about 5 more sequels. If you become a fan, I suggest skipping over parts 3,4,5, and 6, because those movies are kind of off topic with Laurie Strode. I definitely recommend this DVD, it's a must-see!
Rating: Summary: trick er treat......ya die!! Review: halloween was probably the most popular horror movie of all time. ask almost any1 what is their favorite horror film and you will usually get the answer of halloween. 1 night a young 6 year old boy decides to kill his 16 or 17 year old sister. and gets committed to this hospital. then he escapes and goes back to his home town (haddonfield) to kill some more but really is only after 1 person in particular but kills any1 else who will dare get in his way. whats the significance of this 1 person? no1 really knows. but this killer ,michael myers, is pure evil on 2 legs and will not stop at ANY costs. do you believe in the buggy man? well after seeing this movie you might have second thoughts. halloween is a classic film that scared the daylights out of an entire nation. and will frightfully give you a good time watchin it. so sit back and be scared , cuz the buggy man is right in your tv screen. this film was such a great movie and really 1 of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: SCARY AS HELL Review: Usually when you think a movie is scary when you are a kid, isn't the case when you've grown up.But not with 'Halloween'. This movie will keep you looking in your car before you get in; keeps you looking over your shoulder. You cannot help but get goosebumps as you watch this. The mood is perfect, the music is perfect, and the storyline is perfect. Get this one, you will not be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: The First Real Horror Movie Review: Well,I have to say that of all the slasher flicks that I've seen, this is truely the best. For one thing,it probably has the absolute best story told of any horror series;very complex and scary, but pretty straight foward.Second of all,the music is what really made the movie a big hit.I truely believe that John Carpenter was the primary element in making the movie as popular as it is today. The music is scarier than Friday The 13th's,The Exorcist's or Psycho's.Next time you're on Napster search for it.There are many different versions of the theme so look for the one that's 2:58 long.Third of all,you can really feel as if you're in the movie itself. If you've had a bad day or really board, than this is the thing to help. You'll get so caught up in the movie that you will forget about your problem(s)or it will wake you up and give you something to do. I now must appologize for spitting all this crud at you that really dosn't matter because that's not why the movie was made in the first place. The movie was made odviously to scare the heck out of people and it sure did the first time I saw it.(By the way,I am listening to the 20th Anniversary Soundtrack while I write this.)Something else that may strike you anti-violence people as odd is that this movie is one of the most talked about scary movies in history and is still today.Amazing right?Well, let me ask you this:what other horror series has been so popular for more than 22 years?DUH!Remember,it came to theaters in 1978.Pretty cool huh?And just think, with six sequals and another one coming to theaters October 2001,who knows what could happen? Oh and by the way,if you have decided to see the movie because of my review, then skip the third movie The Season Of The Witch. It has absolutly nothing to do with any of the others. The first one is defenetly the best, but if you really want more carnage,I'd recommend the second (The Nightmare isn't over) and sixth in the series (The Curse Of Michael Meyers). The rest is just average for it's group. All I know is that if your a blood and guts fan and you havn't seen this baby, than see it soon cause trust me it's worth it to hurry!
Rating: Summary: Still Waiting To See A Scarier Movie... Review: I was married the same year this movie came out, to a large degree because my girlfriend wouldn't let go of me after seeing it! Seriously, this movie contains all the elements of a very good horror flick with none of the detractors. The acting is credible, a believable plot and plenty of screams. There is no gratuitous violence or gore and the characters stayed in character. The teens were just like those of the day and so were their parents. Watch this movie on a Holloween night with all the lights turned out through the surround sound...the musical score alone is worth the price. It sets the moods perfectly without giving away all the screams.
Rating: Summary: Capitalizes on real life social realignment Review: When this film was released in 1978, the disability rights movement was advocating (much to the shock of the status quo) that it would be alright if some formerly insitutionalized people were released into mainstream society. Predictably, this caused outraged debate on just who those people would be, and people wondered if they would be okay with all of the new releases milling around. As difficult as it seems by todays standards, some people got themselves whipped into a hysterical frenzy. Even though this movie is really technologically good for 1978, it does exploit (now unfounded) fears about disability. Throughout the movie, we hear about Michael's disability and the insitution as if he was especially dangerous not because of the nature of his crime, but because of the fact that he was formerly instutionalized. As a disabled person, I can't help but be offended at the tone of the movie. While my 1979 birth meant that I never had the slightest chance of being sent to a menal institution, I know enough social history to understand it was quite common in older generations. The movie carries on this unelightenment by implying that only bad people are held there. It is worth noting in the 1980's when fellow franchise Nightmare on Elm Street was made, the fact that Freddy Kruger also had some personal problems was not as capitalized. Instead, it was examined and treated as a criminal act to the best of the communitie's abilities.
Rating: Summary: Timeless Horror Classic Review: Go ahead, I dare you, I dare you to watch this movie by yourself, during the fall with the with the lights turned off and then decide to walk down your long driveway to take the garbage out to the curb. It just can't be done. This is the movie that started the Halloween series and also spawned many imitation horror flicks, but the original John Carpenter's Halloween is truly a timeless and tireless horror movie that does it all with minimal gore, sex, and foul language. Instead it uses atmosphere, suspense, great acting(Pleasence,Curtis)and directing, and a totally unforgettable music score. This movie is brought back to full life on the THX mastered DVD. The picture ad sound quality go above and beyond what you would think from a movie made in 1978. Great special features compliment the disc. See this favorite horror film the way it was meant to be seen and don't forget t take the trash out before going to bed. I dare you!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece Review: I first saw this movie in 1981 and this was the first horror movie I saw. I was scared out of my wits. Since then I have seen some excellent horror movies like Event Horizon, but Halloween is the most special. Sure it has some amateur acting and a few loopholes that could have been avoided, but with the money and resources at Carpenter's disposals in 1978, he created a masterpiece. This movie has been imitated enourously over the years but never equaled. Some people actually argue that the Scream movies are superior because of their pace, their huge quantity of murders and their rock music like editing. Granted, this movie takes more time getting started, but once it gets going it's unrelenting. There are huge Hitchcockian influences here and that, unfortunatly, is a thing of the past. Michael Myers is the ultimate movie monster; emotionless, calm and has no silly lines in the end.
