Rating: Summary: As long as you know they're not trying to be Shakespeare... Review: Schlock is, at least what I hope it is, entertainment meant to appeal to those who enjoy the lowest level of art. The Friday The 13th series is a part of that schlock... I was raised on movies like this, and because of that, I continue to enjoy them. I am regarded by most people as artsy-fartsy (the actual term used) and I usually require the most intricate characterizations and plot machinations to be pleased. However, with films such as this (essentially, any slasher or really bad horror movie) I can sit back and just laugh hysterically at the workings of the "characters". It is not meant to be good -- the filmmakers produce these movies knowing full well that they are ..., and the viewer must understand that. If you walk into this movie knowing that it's junk and all you should be expecting is junk, you should be more open to entertainment... because it is a hilarious little piece of junk!
Rating: Summary: Maybe the most underrated film in the series Review: This movie could have been great. many haven't given it a chance due to poor acting, production, and too many random kills. But it has a good storyline if they had expanded on it. It focuses on tommy, played brilliantly by John Shepard, who can't get Jason out of his mind. Meanwhile a fake jason is on the rampage who is finally killed by tommy. at the end tommy dreams of killing the heroine then wakes up and hides under the jason mask. it is pretty clear this was mean that tommy would be the new killer. if only...
Rating: Summary: WHERE'S JASON? Review: ALOT OF PEOPLE TRY TO ARGUE THAT THIS MOVIE ISN'T THAT BAD. WELL, I AM A HUGE FAN OF THE SERIES AND I OWN EVERY ENTRY IN THE SERIES, THIS IS THE WORST. JASON ISN'T IN IT FIRST OF ALL, AND THE KILLER THAT TAKES HIS PLACE IS JUST A BAD CHARACTER AND VERY UNDEFINED. (ROY) THE GORE AND BODY COUNT ARE PRETTY GOOD, BUT THE MOVIE OVERALL IS DEFINITELY FOR DIE-HARD FANS ONLY. IT GETS MUCH MORE CREDIT THAN IT DESERVES, IN THE WHOLE SERIES ITS #9.
Rating: Summary: A nice "break" from the usual Review: I'm a big Friday fan, so I pretty much knew I would love this before I saw it. But I don't just love it, I ADORE it. Oooh Jason isn't here!! So what? It's scarier because the deaths are very gruesome, and the fact that the killer is an 'average joe' shows that you don't have to be a 'mutant' to be pure evil. It also marks a new beginning in the series--where each addition isn't a continuation of it's predecessors as much.Tommy Jarvis has never looked better. In the Final Chapter he's a normal kid, in Jason Lives he's just a former crazy who's all better. In this one, he's quiet and you can tell by the look on his face through most of the movie he's one push away from snapping. The scene where he confronts "Jason" in the barn is the best--it gives me goosebumps all over!! Tommy is also a character you can both pity and cheer. In this one he really shows that. The girls are hot and have well-developed bodies, the murder scenes are the most disgusting I've seen in a while, and the LANGUAGE! Good god, I needed to wash my TV speakers out with soap after watching it! Jason is the man, don't get me wrong, but this addition gives you a little break from all that stuff you're more than used to. What's more, the ending--when combined with how Part 6 begins--leaves you with much to think about. Give it a chance. Jason would want you to.
Rating: Summary: Is Jason back? Review: Set several years after the "Final" Chapter, an older Tommy Jarvis (John Shepherd) is sent to a halfway house to deal with his demons after his traumatic experience with Jason as a twelve year old. The other people there start dropping like flies, but director Steinmann gives away his killer's identity way too early in the film. Very routine and unoriginal, and easily the least of the series. Corey Feldman makes a cameo in the opening sequence. The film was written for him, but his commitment to the production of "The Goonies" interfered, so he has just one scene here. Good for him. For die hard fans of the series, if they must.
Rating: Summary: Almost Flawless Review: A New Beginning is a well directed and stylish sequel to the ever popular Friday the 13th series. This is most definitley the best of the bunch. So it's missing Jason, so what? This sequel doesn't take itself too seriously anyway so it hardly even matters. The cliches all seem to work and it's all meant to be campy fun. Plus, you got lots of gore and nudity to tide you over. I personally liked the cameo's from familiar genre actors. So, in summation, Friday the 13th part 5 is unfairly underrated for little or no reason. What it is, is a clever, entertaining sequel that never gets boring and doesn't so much as dent the genre. Although it has been dubbed by many as the worst of the series and a travesty to Jason (since he wasn't in it), I'd say it's something different and speaking only sequel-wise, it's very original. Plus, "Jason" is much more frightening as a mortal rather than a demon that just keeps going and going and going.
Rating: Summary: suprise suprise it ISN'T jason Review: friday the 13th part 5 a new beginning was a great smash hit. just like halloween 3 here is another film that takes alot of badmouth just cuz it didnt involve the main killer. yup, you herd right ,jason isnt in this 1, there is a killer out there inpersonating jason . and he wants revenge after his son gets murdered. this movie has the best kills i've ever seen in a horror movie , or at least close to it. it has alot of nudity and some drug use and o my....the language..lol..wait to you hear how much cussin is done in this film..you'll laugh your a** off when it is all said and done. the creepiest part of this movie is that you are gettin used to seeing the killer in every kill like fridays 2,3,4 but this 1 went back to friday 1 style , where you cant really see the killer until the very end. thats how i figured SOMETHIN was up when i 1st saw this movie.i'm tellin ya man , some of these kills are just nasty..lol..this movie doesnt deserve all the negotivity it gets but that is some people's problem... if somethin doesnt meet their PREMATURE standerds , they automatically disslike it. it takes an open mind people...no jason...who cares..look at part 1. that 1 didnt have jason till the end and just happens to be the best movie EVER. so watch and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: he looks like jason, he kills like jason, but... Review: first of all i gave this movie 3 stars only because its missing jason. but it is actually right up with all of the others. its packed with gore/violence and nudity. what else is there? in this movie we have tommy jarvis on his way to a mental home to recover from his incident with the maniacal jason. killings ensue in the area and some suspect its tommy because jason is dead, right?...wrong...but right for now i suppose. we never actually see the killer until the last 15 minutes or so. the whole movie somewhat resembles the original friday because of this (minus the camp and lake). bottom line: the deaths are cool, the chicks are naked and hot, the basic friday the 13th plot continues, and when we do see the killer he is dressed up just like jason. jason fans should check this one out to hold them off until jason x!!!
Rating: Summary: Actually Quite Good Review: Actually, I give this movie 3 1/2 stars. A lot of people were upset that Jason was not the killer in this movie. But a little openess to new things does not hurt. (Consider this.) Tommy killed Jason in Part 4. Yet, he is still facing the aftermath trauma of Jason. We have seen Jason kill in previous movies, but what about the damage a survivor can be wounded with? Tommy is so tormented by his fears of Jason that he actually starts to have hallucinations of Jason. (Excellent! Up to now, we have seen blood horror, but what about psychological horror?) Another excellent thing in this movie is that we know Jason is dead, but all the evidence points to him. (Excellent suspense!) The scene where the mayor and sheriff argue is short but well done. Where the real killer is concerned, the event is plausible. A medic finds his own son slaughtered, is driven insane, and goes on a killing spree. (Even in his short role he is handled well.) Since he is a medic, we know that he was a good man who wanted to help people. By a trauma he followed the same pattern as Pam (Jason's mother) from Part 1. Unlike Part 3, the blood and effects are not overdone. Even the title a New Beginning fits well. Tommy is feeling the horrible aftermath of Jason and a new killer comes in.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: Most people don't like this film for its lack Jason. If we were to eliminate this problem, what do we have: One Great idea. If one were to think about the premise behind this movie(A mysterious killer assumes the identity of dead psychopath Jason)it turns out that it is a fantastic idea. This seemed(in 1985) like the right way to go to the film-makers, and to an extent it was. They wanted a "new begining" for a series that was starting to get a bit old. Paramount felt that this new "mystery killer" approach was the way to go. Fans disagreed. This film boasts a quasi-realistic plot(man bent on revenge) and the fact that it ties in with the Friday the 13th series(sort of). This is not a bad film and it is not as poorly made as would first seem. Give it a chance.
