Rating: Summary: Dumb Review: I like B Horror movies from the 70's -- the more campy, the better. It's fun to see the clothes, the hairstyles, the poor production values. And there was a certain innocence and humor that came through many of them. Occassionally there were some glimpses of nudity, but that wasn't the focal point, it was the icing on the cake so to speak. These B movies were not masterpieces of film, but they were fun to watch. I think Rob Zombie was going for that B movie feel with this film but totally missed the mark. He tries too hard and fails. The movie's not fun, it's not suspenseful, and it has irritating characters, one of whom has one of the most irritating laughs in the history of cinema. Those of you who've seen the film know whom I'm talking about. Sex and violence has its part in horror movies, but this... there's really no excuse for this movie in the first place. Thumbs down.
Rating: Summary: Nostalgic and ultimately disturbing Review: I'm a Rob Zombie/White Zombie fan, so naturally, this movie held a great deal of interest for me. I was far more unhinged by it that I had anticipated I would be. The film starts of simply enough and then, like a trip inside lunatic's twisted mind, careens into a ghoulish exercise in terror. The subterranean scenes were alarmingly surreal. It was like something out of Dali's nightmares. Creepy, creepy stuff here, folks and not for those easily frightened. As a whole, the movie is a throwback to the horror films that many of us were weaned on (Texas Chainsaw.., Motel Hell, etc.) and Zombie's fondness for them is clearly evident in his heavy use of backwoods/inbred characters as more sideshow freak than anything remotely normal and decaying, filthy interiors that evidence a fascination with the gothic genre. This is not a great film but then it doesn't aspire to be. From an artistic point of view, it's not a blip on the "cinema as art" screen. However, if you, like me, have a chronic affinity for all things bizarre and macabre, there is plenty to enjoy in "House of a 1000 Corpses." A note to Mr. Zombie: In the future steer clear from the frantic editing style liberally used here. It gives the film a music video feel that is more detrimental than it is effective; it causes the film to trip and fall when it should be steadily walking. A slower approach would have yielded a more cohesive and frightening film. Nonetheless, those who liked some of the aforementioned films will appreciate what Zombie's done and, more than likely, will find it a worthwhile experience, if only because of the memories it will trigger.
Rating: Summary: It just wouldn't END! Review: I'm a big fan of horror movies, you name it, I've seen it. Usually, the gorier the better. But this movie is just BAD. It substitutes gore and torture scenes for plot. It has potential at the beginning, and after all the publicity about it I was convinced it would be something different. But really, the only interesting character in the whole movie was the damn clown. There's only so much time that can be spent finding new and strange ways to torture helpless teenagers to death. How about trying to build suspense? Or maybe making the characters likeable? Do yourself a favor and don't watch this movie.
Rating: Summary: Rob Zombie plus corpses equals fun. Review: Some people say that this film is bad. Those people are idiots, this film is great. It is fun and it has lots of blood. if you want to cheer up then go and get this film, and in the words of Captain Spaulding "Well S#!T the bed".
Rating: Summary: Goresexastupid Review: I had to invent a new word to describe how mindnumbingly stupid this movie was. Everything was gratutitous. Not scary, not funny, nothing. Pop it in at a party if you want everyone out of the TV room.
Rating: Summary: this is pretty good, loved the Baby character Review: I can't beleive some ass clown here insultet Baby's laugh saying it was irritating!, I loved it!, I can't get enough of that laugh!, plus what a cutie (mr Zombie is a lucky man), this is a pretty fun movie to watch. although it gets a little confusing towards the end. I was'nt scared, although thats not Rob's fault, I never get scared by horror movies, but I guess the would terrifie the teenyboppers that are used to Scream and such.
Rating: Summary: What a waste of time Review: Beeing a Rob Zombie fan of his music. I was really looking forward to seeing this film. But after veiwing it I dont think i will see any future Rob Zombie films if there going to be this bad! I was expecting to hear alot of Rob's music in the soundtrack, but was disapointed by only about 3 or 4 maybe 5 i heard during the film. By now youve read other reviews of what this movie is about. And most people havent shared my opionion about this film, but i must say it was horrible. The acting is terrible and the plot may not be predicatable, but it still was stupid and when it came to about the 1 hour 20 minute mark of the film, it just did not want to end! It just kept taking all these new twist and turns and was getting quite boring and completly unbeleivable and I was begging for the movie to finally finsih. it sure went for way to long! The most annoying thing in it would have to be the girls laugh. If you have heard the laugh sound on the "Sinister Urge" or "Soundtrack to this movie" song "house of 1000 corpses" then by the end of this film you will be so sick of hearing that laugh you will want to smack her in themouth and tell her to shut up! The movie isnt even really titles well, seeing as how the house does not contain 1000 corpses (not thats seen anyway) and comes later in an underground cave type of thing there for it was named pretty badly! In my opinion it should have been called "movie of 1000 annoying bad laughs and screams" cheesy plots and jokes, and nothing speichel about this film to make it any diffrent from any other lame horror flick. Wanna see a great horror movie? then dont bother with this one, only Rob Zombie's die hard fans will love this flick! It apparently took 2 years to finally get a release. but dont expect that to be because of some kind of scene that the FDA or whoever they are didnt want you to see... its probably because they didnt want to release such a bad movie with such a bad plot, and bad acting....and that annoying girls laugh :S there not one thing scary about this film!
Rating: Summary: Holy Miss Moley, Got Me A Live One Review: This is the best horror movie of the last 10 to 15 years. If you do not believe that, just think back to Scream and I know what you did last bla bla bla.Oh,and of course, the horror infested, chilling, thrilling, edge of your seat movies,Cabin Fever, and Jeeeepeeers Creeepeeers 1 and 2.Anyway, House of 1000 Corpses is an artisticly shot film of demonic genius.
Rating: Summary: This one really grows on you Review: I have to admit that when I first saw this movie I was a bit disappointed due to the over-hype and anticipation. Not to mention I might be a bit jaded when it comes to horror films having the ability to "scare" me. Either way I bought the DVD and watched it a few times and realized that is just a fun movie to watch while sippin a brew with chips and dip! It has some very cool, colorful and likeable(in a sick way I guess)characters (I do not mean the travelling teenagers; I was happy to see them pass to the afterlife at the HANDS of the interesting characters). I think the insane characters were each solid and stood well on their own and could probably each have a movie made about them individually. The Dr. Satan story was interesting and I liked the way each story within the film merged to a satisfying end. Captain Spaulding is my favorite character in the movie due to his straight-forward approach to everything. I enjoyed the clips shown throughout the movie which kind of gave a glimpse of back-story and helped progress the plot. The 70's horror feel was nice too. This film was more nostalgic to me than anything else, but worked well for this era. Rob Zombie did a fine job on this film and I am happy to own it! I guess that is all
Rating: Summary: watch it with fresh eyes and you just might enjoy it Review: this movie was Funny, first off and fun second off. i enjoyed it immensely. the point is don't believe the hype. i went into this movie thinking it was a big overrated flop of a 90 minute music video. what i got was so much more. rob zombie is truly a talented person and this movie shows it. thanks rob for making the most fun, good time movie of the year! it kicked butt.
