Summary: Chopped to pieces! (and not the victims)
Review: I wonder what Rob was thinking with this one- everybody knows that the MPAA will not tolerate much gore or bloody violence on-screen and therefore anything made which relies heavily on gore (rather than plot or atmosphere) to tell its story will naturally be shredded to pieces before it will get that R rating. However, I heard that the film did well at the box office, so good for Rob Zombie; not suprising that American audiences like it in that the movie is a contrived mess of an hour and a half.

If you're familiar with "Texas Chainsaw," then you know the plot here- some dumb young folks run afoul of a psychotic backwoods family and all sorts of mayhem ensues. I have no idea what the original screenplay looks like and what's supposed to be going on here, but the movie, especially after the first 40 minutes or so, is clearly extensively and badly edited. With how jumbled it gets in the last half, it seems that the film should be at least an hour or so longer to explain everything that is going on- we go from the deranged family in the house to subterranean monsters and satanic rituals in a matter of minutes.

Overall sloppily edited and incoherent, not to mention contrived, but this version is worthy of a second star because at least there is a fair amount of good, creepy imagery- while the monsters may not make much sense, they do at least look cool. I wouldn't recommend blowing the money for a theater viewing but instead waiting for a rental.

Summary: A subversive film
Review: What makes HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES terrifying are its subversive politics, not its gore content. Notice that two "young" couples (they are in their late twenties, early thirties) are portrayed as nasty, unscrupulous, and selfish people. Director Rob Zombie treats his ghouls and killers with infinitely more sympathy and compassion than he does those who are tortured and destroyed. The radical message behind the killing is more disturbing than the killings themselves---but one must never forget that a work of art is just that: a work of art, nothing more, but also nothing less.

Summary: For horror fans by horror fans...
Review: If you like modern horror stop reading now. Fans of bubblegum horror films like Scream & Urban Legend will not get this movie. Here's a list of films that this epic belongs in, ready?: PHANTASM, DAWN OF THE DEAD, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, MOTEL HELL, SUSPIRIA, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, I'll even throw in Nightmare on Elm Street Part One, HALLOWEEN PART ONE AND FRIDAY THE 13TH PART ONE. You catch my drift? This movie is like Rob Zombie's artwork come to life, monsters, ghouls, and buxom babes all hot 'n bothered covered in blood. I predict that Captain Spaulding will be the next horror icon, he's an absolute hoot and scary as hell. Is anything really scarier than a demented foul mouthed redneck in clown make-up? Thank you MR. Zombie.

Summary: What a build up and let down
Review: I also waited a long time for this movie to come out. Maybe I had high expectations but, I thought Rob Zombie was a little more original than this. I have read the reviews where people call this movie a welcome throwback to 70's horror. I call it a rip off of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre without the feeling of terror. When Massacre came out it was original, shocking, and a shot in the arm to the horror industry. This movie is none of that. The best part of the Movie is when we actually get to see Dr. Satan, but sadly it comes late in the movie and only for a brief moment. If they would have focused more on Dr. Satan and less on the inbred [...], maybe I would have had better things to say. I can only hope and pray that Rob Zombie will redeem himself with a "directors cut" dvd.

Summary: Disturbing, Horrorific...Excellent!
Review: House of 1000 Corpses was a great horror flick and a nice slap in the face to the borring 90's "Scream" and "I Know What You Did" movies (which were a poor excuse for horror). Bill Moseley (From the Texas Chainsaw fame) was brilliant as the completely psychotic head of the murderous family. Chills, thrills and manny laughs the whole way through. Keep 'em coming Rob!

Summary: Sucked Big Time
Review: To D Harper Gardner Jr: The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Doesn't rate movies and never did the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) does. As for this movie....I think Poltergeist has more gore and is scarier.

Summary: One Sick, Disturbing Movie!!
Review: For those of you who are into sick, disturbing images this movie is for you. Rob Zombie you are one sick individual! You did a very good job at distorting my vision by brutal violence, sick, twisted family values and nothing but pure filth. I am no saint, but the root of this movie is pure evil and is directed toward satanic values and beliefs. I have watched a lot of horror movies and I have to say that this is the only one that left me wanting to run out of the theatre and say "who gives a ... about my $$$!"
