Rating: Summary: Great! Review: This is truly one of the best horror movies I have seen. It has great music. The acting however isn't Oscar winning performances. The soundtrack has a lot of great music and some new songs by Rob Zombie. It is Rob Zombie's directorial debut, and its a great one!
Rating: Summary: Yuck!!! All the wait for this??? Review: I don't understand the hype surrounding Rob Zombie's much-awaited directorial debut, which becomes nothing more than a bloodier, gorier rehash of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,"and not even a good one! While it does have dazzling visuals, gob smacking editing, flamboyant sets and deliciously over the top characters, that's the only merit I can give it. Taking its cue from vintage 70s horror films, "House" centers on very little, but one might make out that it's about four kids whose car breaks down and they end up in a house full of lunatics. You see, the kids were on the road looking for eerie and abnormal tourist attractions and are about to stare a couple in the face, most notably the manic cannibalistic Dr Satan. If an hour and a half of undecipherable plot and sickening - but not exactly novel - horror tickles your fancy, then "House of 1000 Corpses" should get your heart palpitating. Some of the characters in this movie are truly terrifying. Sid Haig's Captain Spaulding, the owner of a roadside attraction chronicling serial killers, is an obvious highlight. He's freakishly uncomforting, but refreshingly entertaining. It's a pity the movie didn't feature more of him in it's plot. Karen Black's over the top performance is also a highlight, but hey, she's a legend in my book. Once the kids get to their 'Final Destination'--the house of horrors, if you will--the film goes down hill. One by one the freaks come out of the woodwork, and one by the one the kids are slaughtered. Nothing very novel there - and horror fans, it isn't done very imaginative either. In fact, most of the horror sequences are clouded by either foggy edits, shots of old horror films or TV shows, or unfathomable imagery. For a film that's been shopped around to that many distributors and been removed and re-slotted into different release dates, I fail to see what the attraction is with this film. In my opinion, it's not better than an MTV video clip that some hard rocker would helm. Yes, it's similar to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", but more "The Next Generation" than the original. Now does a film like that deserve so much of your attention?
Rating: Summary: House of 1000 Corpses Review: After much anticipation, I finally got to see this movie (although I did have to drive a distance for viewing). What a mess. Since I am quite aware that Rob Zombie has been struggling for over two years to get this movie by the ratings board, I can see that the finished product is a "chopped-to-pieces" mess. I suppose Mr. Zombie got tired a fighting the censors and caved in to their demands. And that's truly a pity. The movie had limitless possibilities, but it never really carried through on any of them. So, if you want to see schlock for schlock's sake, this might be your cup of tea. I rated low, but I am anticipating the DVD's release because I'm sure there will be more footage restored to this movie.
Rating: Summary: soooo funny Review: Ok, so I know this was supposed to be a scary movie, and it was at times. On the hole, I thought is was very funny. the people i went to see it with were scared but I couldnt stop laughting. For anyone who has seen it, the funniest part was the waving clown at the gas station. If you havent seen it and dont like stupid and cheesey scary movies, dont watch it. Otherwise, it is a must see and I cant wait to own it!
Rating: Summary: House of 1000 Corpses Review: For anyone who enjoys hardcore horror films (and I don't mean like I Know What You Did Last Summer or The Ring . . . I mean real horror films like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre or the Hills Have Eyes), you will love this film cause Rob Zombie knows exactly what he is talking about. The film offers so sense of hope or redemption. It is brutal and down to Earth and lots of fun to watch! If you do not like gore, do not see this film. And if you do not like horror movies, do not see this film. Other than that . . . see this film!
Rating: Summary: Back to the 70's Review: Last year I saw "Jeepers Creepers" and said it was a throw back to 70's style horror flicks. House of 1000 Corpses definitely follows suite. Now I did enjoy the movie, but I grew up on movies like "Dawn of the Dead", "The Evil Dead", "Zombie", and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". If you are a fan of those kind of movies, then I think you'd enjoy "House of 1000 Corpses". The movie is about four college kids on a cross country trip in the the year 1977. They're documenting strange roadside attractions and come across one where they hear the story of Doctor Satan, who used to experiment on humans in the insane asylum. Letting curiosity get the better of them, they end up trapped in the home of a very weird family, which they find out later have been kidnapping people and killing them for fun. The results are very bloody After the first 3/4 of this movie, I was thinking that this was a bit of a comedic horror movie. Not that scary. Definitely a sense of humor. The last part throws away all the humor and gives you an experience not seen in movies in a long time.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but not scary Review: For a horror movie, this ain't scary, which IS a problem. Luckily, it isn't too big of one. It's really very funny, which was surprising, and the campiness made it better. I dig the sideburns on the rednecks. If only I could grow some like those...
Rating: Summary: bloody fun Review: I like rob and his music I like rob's movie. I saw it the second week it was released and i was impressed for the fact that rob zombie is a true horror fan and he showed us what horror movies should be. I think that alot of the new movies like jason-x and halloween reserection were films that should have died years ago but thay changed with the time which sucked so in other words the movie rocked for the fact that it stayed with the classics rock on!!!!
Rating: Summary: Now I can live in a 24h state of fear! Yay! Review: Okay; so a few months ago, I go to the movies to see FD2, and it terrified me for the 16 hours of every waking day. But I was still enjoying at least 8 hours of sleeping bliss at night. Today I see HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, and now vie to never sleep again. Pretty much none of this movie is likely to happen at any point in your life, but it can very easily have an influence on your dreams. So there's this gas station/horror house. Within this horror house is this push-cart ride containing some of the best (by that I mean worst) special gore effects ever. As well they SHOULD, being that they're REAL past visitors to the station. As I said, not very likely, but horrifyingly terrifying. 4 stars instead of 5, because cheesy and corny cut-scenes are unnecissarily tossed in between dreaming/awake scenes.
Rating: Summary: Rob shows us why his last name is Zombie Review: House of 1000 corpses is a must see for anyone interested in horror movies, the camera usage is unique and adds to the scary effect, the characters were original and well casted, and it is very unlike most scary movies now a day, i have been waiting for someone to step up the horror movie department because they have all been similar, then out of nowhere here comes rob zombie to save the day, and to think of how long this movie has been done, and no one wanted to put it out because of the gore in the movie, well if they removed lots of gore to fit screens, guess how much will be in the directors cut dvd when that comes out. well if your interested at all at unique and intriguing horror films, then this is a must see.
