Summary: Captian Spaulding Rulz!
Review: I just picked this up today & I like it alot. This can only come from the mind of ROB ZOMBIE! It's really Cool. I love BABY,TINY,MOTHER,OTIS AND GRANDPA! I can't wait to see the sequel to this fantastic movie. I hope it's more scary and gorey than the first. But only if Rob Zombie will direct it. Than I will see it. Till then. See this movie. Sincerly yours. Captian Spaulding! HA! HA! YEAH!YEAH!

Summary: poor direction ruins potential
Review: I loved this film until midway through, when Zombie decides that shaky cameras, overly grainy film, and any method of obscuring the action on the screen is the direction he wants to take. There are points in the film where fancy filters are thrown in during periods of inaction for what appears to be no reason. Strong and potentially powerful scenes, such as when a cop gets shot in the backyard, come across as obviously manipulative when surrounded by the other busier, gimmicky scenes.
Loving 70's horror films as I do, it's hard to knock a movie that pays so much homage to the genre. Unfortanately, blurry, shaky cameras mar the experience almost beyond redemption.
Wrong Turn did a better job at filling me with 70's horror film nostalgia, than 1,000 Corpses.
1,000 Corpses does have some redeeming qualities, The tourist trap, the shallow glimpses into the psychotic family, and some truly disturbing mise en scene (When the camera stopped long enough to let you glimpse what you were seeing) are all entertaining.

Summary: a great horror movie.
Review: I saw this movie in the theaters. I enjoyed it. I now own the dvd. This is a neat movie. Sheri moon is cute. This almost like texas chainsaw massacre 2003.

Summary: Where's the director's cut?
Review: First, let me say that I loved this movie when I saw it in theaters. I couldn't wait to get it on DVD so Rob Zombie could put in the footage deemed too graphic for an R release.

Now, it's coming out on DVD, but where's the director's cut?

I think people should save their money until the director's cut comes out. The DVD companies love to do this. Put out a movie. Get people to buy it. Then, put out a better version in an effort to get people to buy their movies more than once.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: Best horror film I have seen in years. Can't wait for the sequel. I bought the dvd early at a store in New York. It rocks. All of the extra features are right on the money particularly the menus. Sheri Moon, Sid Haig and Karen Black give some tremendously fun performances in this movie. See it for their acting alone. One day the scene w/ Moon lip synching "I Wanna Be Loved By You" will be considered a classic. Not for all tastes.

Summary: It was really good for what it was
Review: Like the one guy said, it's a B style horror movie. Don't expect more. For what it was, I actually think it was really good. And if some of you could stop being so dramatic: "I can't believe this recieved an R rating!" Oh yeah and the word genra in your little critique is genre. Just thought you should know since you used the word to make yourself sound knowledgable. lol. Alright anyways, back to the movie. It was really good. It had that back woods feel that is really scary like Deliverance or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Oh what's that.....these two movies are B style movies and not another teeny bopper scary movie like Scream, or I Still Know What You Might Do The Summer After Next....for christ sakes people get over it. It was original and really good for what it was.

Summary: Gore, guns and gasoline... whoo hoo!
Review: As a huge fan of Rob Zombie, I wasn't sure what to expect from his film work, being that Rob has generally stayed within the realm of music. With that said, I can say I was genuinely pleased that his film debut, House of 1000 corpses, remained true to his musical vision. Watching this film was not unlike listening to a Rob Zombie/White Zombie album -- the interspersed film clips and negative imagery taking the place of the horror movie samples that one would normally find in a Zombie tune.

The film wasn't scary... not in the way that one would expect from a "horror movie," but was truly fun to watch, something that's been missing in horror for a number of years now. The cheesy horror show clips and weird musical choices brought this campy cult movie to life, and created not necessarily a sense of dread, but a curiosity about what exactly was lurking around the next corner. Speaking of weird musical choices, by the way, the soundtrack was wonderful! A juxtaposition of disgusting and horrifying imagery with odd and sometimes beautiful music ala Clockwork Orange or Natural Born Killers works very well here, and all the music works, whether it's a Zombie original, or a well chosen classic. Pay special attention to the music during the torture scenes!

On to the plot... the plot was very thin, and anyone reading this should take warning that if they go into this experience expecting a great story, well... you may wish to go elsewhere. Strangely though, this lack of focus on story works in the world of "House of 1000 corpses." The witty B-movie dialogue and music video style shots would be misplaced if they were sandwiched in between major plot points. One gets the same feeling from House of 1000 corpses that one does from the footage playing behind Zombie at his live concerts... a mood is set, and he runs with it to give you more of a specific feeling, than an intellectual workout.

Characters are surprisingly well defined in this flick... not well rounded, per se, but well defined. We know from the moment we see a character on the screen what kind of person they are, their primary motivation, and in many cases, whether or not they'll be horribly murdered by the end of the film. For those of you who only like movies with happy, sunny, good ol' fashioned endings, I would advise you to rent something like Steel Magnolias. This is the way horror is meant to be... remember all those unlikable characters that survive in typical horror movies? No worries about that here. Without ruining the ending for you, I would recommend that you and your friends each pick a character and see whose choice survives the longest. You might be surprised.

B-movie horror luminaries abound in this flick. Pay special attention to the disturbingly wonderful Karen Black, and also the daughter in the family of evil, played by Rob Zombie's real life girlfriend. Both give a disturbing, yet strangely (in Karen Black's case) and extremely (in the girlfriend's case) SEXY performance.

The legend of Dr. Satan will forever be etched in to cult classic status after this movie hits DVD players everywhere. A good solid B-movie, designed as a B-movie. Don't expect Casablanca... expect a rollicking, gore-filled good time!

Summary: Where's the director's cut?
Review: I didn't give this one star because I didn't like the movie. I loved the movie. I was very excited when I found out it was coming out on DVD. However, I was extremely disappointed to find out there is no director's cut featuring the footage that had to be cut out.

Now I have to wait for the director's cut. This is something DVD companies love to do. Put out a movie. Get people to buy it. Then, some time later, release a bonus version, thinking people will buy it again.

Stay away from this DVD until the director's cut is finally released!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: this is the greatest movie ever made
Review: I do believe that this is the best movie ever made. I ve seen all the horror classics and i think mr. zombie has made a classic that will stand the test of time. with this movie I recommend watching it at least 3 to 4 times so that you fully understand all the macabre details, trust me its worth it. I normally don't laugh and scream at the same movie, but this one did it for me I laughed at the opening seen in captain spauldings, and screamed when "baby" jumped at one of the characters on the porch. I think this movie was expertly written and directed.
