Rating: Summary: Nasty and depressing Review: You're watching the adverts in the theatre and then the film starts and you can't see the join. The opening scenes in the van are edited like a 30 second beer commercial and sepia natch. The direction is pitiful and the machinations used to keep the plot going desperate and unconvincing. Such is the cynicism of the filmmakers that a sprinkler system goes off just as a buxom girl is trying to escape. Nothing to do with her wearing a t-shirt, of course. Needless to say political correctness dictates that the heroine has to be kick-***, instead of the reality, which is her body would go into such serious shock that her legs would just give way under her. Nothing is as daft as every significant building in the middle of nowhere being backlit by what looks like football stadium floodlights. The wisdom of an R rating is another debate entirely.Dire, avoid.
Rating: Summary: Better then what I expected Review: First off,I'm not a huge fan of the original film.I liked it but I didn't find anything speical with it,I prefer TCM 2 over the first one.And I'm not a fan of remakes (with the expections of The Thing and Willard),I didn't know what to expect when I went to see this and what I got was even better.TCM had me covering my eyes and jumping out of my sit and the last film to do that was 1999's The Sixth Sense.TCM is one of the few good horror films to come out in 2003,everything else is either [bad] or I haven't seen.So watch, enjoy and beware of the chainsaw.
Rating: Summary: People...what are you thinking? Review: Although, I have not seen the movie yet, and can't tell you whether or not it's good or bad, I do have something to tell the VERY misled people stating that "This REALLY happend"....Okay, first off, you're right in stating that this character is BASED ON Eddie Gein...He was...But Ed Gein DID NOT go around with a chainsaw killing people. He lived in Wisconson, and for those of you that don't know, he was also the inspiration for Norman Bates of Psycho and Buffalo Bill of Silence of the Lambs...He killed two people, both women. He shot both of them, then took them home, gutted them, and reprtedly ate parts of thier body. He did have a "woman suit" that he would wear outside at night, but he never let anyone see it. In truth he was a middle aged momma's boy who had a sick fetish for women's body parts. For the most part, he simply went into graveyards and dug up freshly buried women to supply his need. As a matter of fact, the only way that Ed Gein is like Leatherface is because A). He did wear a suit made of women's flesh, B). His house was filled with lampshades made of skin and the like, and C). He was reported to be a cannibal. The man never even had/owned a chainsaw...He didn't go in search of young teenaged victims (As a matter of fact, he used to watch two young boys who came to his house for company, never once harming them). Ed Gein was also well liked in the community (the way one would like/feel sorry for someone that was a little slow or dim witted) Nobody would have ever thought him capible of committing murder, which is, I'm sure, the reason most parents didn't mind letting thier children hang out at Gein's farm. There is a movie about Ed Gein, though it is embellished as well,(yet more factual than TCM, Psycho, OR Silence of the Lambs) and it's called " Ed Gien" It's come on shotime quite a bit, and I'm pretty sure you can find it for rent somewhere. However, when you hear people telling you "this really happend" while watching TCM, don't believe them. I grew up thinking that based on the first movie, and was scared to death because I lived in Texas at the time...Yet even Tobe Hooper said that the story's not true (For those of you that don't know, Tobe Hooper did the ORIGINAL TCM.). So, sleep sound at night knowing that Leatherface and his family are not real, and never have been, but there ARE people out there, like Eddie Gein, who does a little grave-robbing from time to time, and hasn't killed HALF the people that some think he has...Enjoy the movie...Oh, I also suggest some of you watch the original's TCM commentary, given by Hooper, Gunnar, and the production manager...very good insight on the film...
Rating: Summary: Scary as hell Review: This movie is on some levels far better than the original. It is also, on some levels, inferior to the original. The premise is pretty much the same, but some of the elements have been changed for whatever reason. One element that is changed is the reason they, the group of 5 teens, end up at the house to begin with. Another is the hitchhiker they pick up. Instead of it being a freaky razor toting guy, it is now a highly disturbed suicidal gun toting girl. My main complaints with the movie are as follows: 1) you would not go from El Paso to Travis county to get to Dallas. 2) They did not capture what it is like to be in Central Texas in the middle of August. You do not get the feeling of how hot and horrible it truly is here in Texas that time of year. 3) It is not foggy like that in this part of Texas. Especially that time of year. 4) The house is completely out of character. You can see that this used to be a grand house. That is one of the things that was so scary about the first movie, how normal that house could have been made it more frightening. 5) The one moment in the original when you just know that everything is not going to be ok and you can feel that your insides are about to appear on your outsides..... when leather face opens the metal door and snatches up the young guy and then slams the door shut.... one of the most horrific scenes in any movie... it was skipped in this movie. Or at least their attempt at recreating it fell flat. Maybe they did not want to take this one on, I am not sure, but it just never happened the way it should have. Those are my only gripes which do not take too much away from the horror and scares of this worthy remake. And trust me, there are more than enough scares. About 7 times I almost ended up in the laps of the people sitting behind me. It truly is great fun if you are a fan of the original or genre. Don't miss out on this one.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING Review: This is one great movie!! This is ALMOST as good as the original (Which was for some reason more disturbing, I think it was the supper scene). But this remake does the series justice. TCM 2 wasn't too great, TCM 3 sucked, TCM next generation sucked, but this one is simply brilliant. you gotta see this. I saw some broad crying in the theatre and I have never heard a whole theatre of people scream before. The new guy who plays leatherface is excellent but he ain't no Gunnar Hansen who was the most depraved leatherface creepy(Leatherface from TCM 1).
Rating: Summary: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. Review: You know, I've noticed that several of the individuals who spoke more than badly of the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre spelled several words incorrectly. Is it because you are a bad speller or is it that you were up all night shaking with fear after watching a so-called "waste of money" flick? Now that IS interesting. I know that everyone has an OPINION but that doesn't give you the right to dissuade others from seeing this film. Here is a newsflash for you people. There is NO such thing as a perfect movie. If you go to the theatre expecting a perfect film, you WILL be disappointed. I feel sorry for those who go through life expecting perfection. If I were you, I would put myself in the shoes of a director. Realize that not all films are attempting to obtain an Oscar. As far as I'm concerned, the movie has achieved what it set out to do and that was to terrify viewers. If you still are not convinced, perhaps you should make a movie and everyone will say how bad it was.
Rating: Summary: Disturbing Review: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was two hours of disturbing and offencive subhuman behavior
Rating: Summary: Have to tell the truth Review: Ok..I'd just like to set the facts straight In the trailer when it says it is based on a true story, it is LOOSELY based on a true story. The story of Ed Gein took place in Plainsfield, Wisconsin. Ed Gein killed a few women, made a full body suit of human skin and a few masks. IT DID NOT TAKE PLACE IN TEXAS NOR WAS THERE A CANNABALISTIC FAMILY. The story of TCM is completely fictional and is based on Ed Gein. The song in the trailer is called Song to the Siren by This Mortal Coil (ft/ the Cocteau Twins). It is a beautiful song. I enjoyed the original TCM. It wasn't pure gore and there was always an aspect of mystery. You never really saw everything in that house and you never really saw Leatherface like you do in this movie. SORRY- I had to get these facts straight.
Rating: Summary: Top 10 of 2003 Review: I just wanted to say this was GREAT!! I loved it, it is SO much better than the original. How can people say this can't possibly live up to the 1974 bore-fest that could've been edited down 20 minutes? This version was so suspensful, entertaining, and actually scary.
Rating: Summary: BE PREPARED TO WASTE YOUR MONEY Review: This has got to be one of the most poorest excuses for a horror flick. The only thing worth my $9.00 is seeing the Return of the King Teaser. Whoever casted Jessica Biel must have a few screws loose, the movie would have been better if they casted the whole 7th heaven family as the victims. Bad acting and bad story. The only good thing I have to say about the movie is the Sherrif played nicely by R. Lee Ermey. There was nothing scary about this film except loosing my money to watch this crap. Paid for alot and got nothing. waste of time, waste of money!!!
