Summary: Excellent,Parallel to the original,Scared the crap out of me
Review: I was so impressed with this remake! When I went into the movie I had a bad head, thinking that nothing could match the original, I was wrong. This movie is awesome, they did a terrific job with EVERY aspect of it. What a great job they did of bringing this kick ass story to young people of today who otherwise probably wouldn't have seen it. The whole time I had a sense of fear and uneasiness, it was great! They made you really feel for the characters, you really believe that these horrible things are happening to them, you almost forget that you're just watching a movie and it's not really happening. Superb casting, filming, acting, directing, superb everything. I saw it in the theatre twice(...). It seems that a lot of people are trying way too hard to be faithful to the original movie, and that's cool, but let up just a little bit, have an open mind. Just because it's not the "original cult classic" does not mean that it isn't an awesome movie. I expected it to be bad too because it was a remake, but i had and open mind, and rarely has a movie instilled such fear in me, made me actually jump and gasp and all those wonderful reactions to being terrified. I recommend this movie to absolutely everyone, even if you don't like horror flicks, everyone needs a good scare once in a while. And cudos to Jessica Biel for playing the part of Erin like no one else could.

Summary: Loved it!
Review: Many people go in expecting this movie to be made exactly like the original. It is hard for any movie to compete with it's original but I think this one gave it a run for it's money. I think the new twists and similar storyline were good and damn scary. I can't remember the last time I left the theater thinking "... that scared me" and this did. With all the new teen slasher films out that are just poor and predictable this was definitely worth the watch!!

Summary: Synthetic and Tactless- as scary as an out of date sweater.
Review: Toned abs, naval rings + Old Navy-70s nostalgia = Synthetic H'wood Horror at its most benigh.

Aside from the brilliant "Dawn of the Dead" re-vision, why does Hollywood insist on playing it safe? The brilliance of the original was the murky cinematography, screeching soundtrack and (gasp!) SUGGESTION of GORE (there's truly very little in the film). Here you have a Rob Zombie video gone horribly wrong, with ridiculous musical cues nudging the audience to remind them "this is horror- be scared!".

Summary: Don't Compare!
Review: I am a huge fan of the 1974-Tobe Hooper's film Texas Chainsaw Massacre and consider it one of the most intelligent horror films ever made.So I did have few misgivings about watching this new remake (and not another sequel), being very much disappointed before with similar ventures(one example that comes to my mind is Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes),but watch it I did and I have to admit that I did enjoy it very much.
You have to give credit where credit is due, and to be fair Marcus Nispel, in his first feature film, did a competent job in creating a dark and sinister atmosphere from the very start, and injecting an equal and effective dosage of tension/suspense and gore. All the actors were very good, especially the excellent R.Lee Ermey as the demented sheriff/head of the psycho family,(yes the one and only R.Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket fame, but it seems unfair that he is mostly remembered for Kubrick's masterpiece as he has done a large collection of work since).
Other actors who impressed me were Six Feet Under's Eric Balfour, and of course Jessica Biel!(she is a Goddess,it is official!!..but seriously she did a very convincing and sexy performance).
Now I have to point out a very important matter:
You will enjoy this film much more if you do not compare it too much with the original, as some reviewers did, but watch it instead as a 'new' film.
Indeed, the two Texas Chainsaw Massacre films are based on the same horrible events that actually happened in Texas's backyard, so in a way it is not a copy or a remake in the proper sense of the word.
Besides ,if comparisons are to be made, more recent films are more apt,and one can be made with Wrong Turn which was mediocre at best and not as well directed.
Although choosing the same title was a bold move and will inevitably draw much criticism (hence the very low marks from some reviewers) because no matter how good Nispel's version is, no one can possibly recreate the sheer raw and unrelenting power and brutality of the first. But I don't think the filmmaker intended to do that..with a screenplay based on the 1974 one by Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper, I do believe that they acknowledged the classic status of the original, and I think, it is an indirect tribute to it, not a pretentious and haughty attempt to undermine it.
So Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a good film, that delivers good 'ole fashioned edge of your seat-popcorn flying' tension, one that you will enjoy much more if you forget the original for a while, and acknowledge a competent direction and acting.

Summary: Well, I think it's better than the original.
Review: This movie is better than the original. At least thats what I think. The original was kind of boring, no real scary parts. You hear the chainsaw, Leatherface chases them through the woods. Repeat. Thats how the original was. But this one is better. In this one, he tortures his victims better, and it actually SHOWS IT ALL. Unlike in the first film, where it looked like it was made for T.V. And this one did have a few scary parts. But we all know the footage of Leatherfaces house IS FAKE. I can't believe no one else has talked about this. Towards the end, they show police footage. FAKE. FAKE. Thats all I have to say about that. But the special effects are really good, for a horror movie. But nothing compared to Final Destination 2. The story is one of the best parts. Unless you have seen the original, it might have you guessing till the end. But it is not completely predictable, like most horror movies nowdays. Overall this is a great movie. Buy it.

Summary: Next Generation Horror
Review: Most people will watch this film and refer to the original masterpiece, and say this is the one of the worst films they have ever seen. The original was great for "its time", and I'm sorry for the people that wont let go of their own bias opinion on classic films (or classic films according to them), but the remake is controversal, because it is asking audiences to open up to a newer style of horror filmmaking. Director Marcus Nispel and Producer Michael Bay are truly unique filmmakers, and I suspect to see Nispel to move up upon the ranks, such as Bay has done. The money issue has been immaturely stated. The remake was "just" made to get more money? And the first one was made for the fun of it? Hollywood is a business. I'd hate to break it to you, but all filmmakers like to get paid for their movies, especially the producers that put so much money into them. If we can just step aside from the blood and gore for a moment, let look at the directing and the cinematography. I know most of you will just think, "Who cares about all that stuff? I just watch the movie and I like it or I don't", but if we can just become just a little more educated and realize how talent was actually put in this film, you will soon realize how "good" this film actually is. Movies are made to entertain the audience. The audience changes over time, and the movies change along with them. If you truly feel this film is a completely horrible film because it wasn't the like the old Tobe Hooper classic, you need to stop and look around and see if the times are passing you up. This film truly has great potential and is one of the best horror films ever made. Nispel took a script that was made for a 1970's audience and transformed it into a horrifying and shocking film for the audience of today. In addition to this film, the 2-Disc DVD contains loads of features, such as a documentary on the "real-life" event that inspired the film, which Tobe Hooper obviously disregarded in his humerous, macabre style of story-telling. I'm not saying that one one version is better than the other, because I have my own opinions and you have yours. I'm just saying that you should have more of an open mind instead of comparing this film to the original. This film was not made to be like the original, but was made to take the original and retell it in a more gruesome, more vicious, more horrifying and shocking way. When watching this film, you have to understand that this film is a survival horror. It is not meant to make you feel optimistic or normal or even comfortable in anyway. This film was made to scare you and it does just that.

Summary: This film is SCARY!
Review: The original "Texas chainsaw masscare" was, and still is one of the scariest films ever made. The title alone is still infamous for horror. The re-make? Possibly one of the scariest horror re-makes ever!Unflinching in gore, suspense and terror, just imagining living through an ordeal like this would give you nightmares for months. The storyline is slightly tweaked to give things a new twist. And the gore is more heavy. But the basic horrific premise is the same: a "family" of killers on the rampage! The acting is much better in this one, but I won't take away anything from the original as it is equally freaky! This re-make was filmed for a meager $10 million and suprised the industry by grossing(literally) over $70 million at the U.S. box office alone. The ending is much better and very chilling. All I can say is, do not watch this alone if you are easily freaked out!And be prepared for relentless terror, gore and no sympothy to any of the ill fated victims. And if you think something like this could never happen, just remember the horrible Sharon Tate murders masterminded by the sick Charles Manson in 1969. Although those murders differed, they are equally as gruesome and uncalled for. This film delivers horror in the true sence of the word and reminds us that sick demented killers do exist in our society. As twisted and gross as this film is, it also does was it simply intended to do: scare the living daylights out of you!If you want extreme horror, this is it.

Summary: Not really remade just reborn.
Review: Needless to say, I'm a huge TCM fan, even when things started going downhill. Like everyone else, i was massivly sceptical of a remake. Like most people, I was pleasently surprised to find this movie as gruesome and grungy as the original, with some added perks.
As far as the disc goes, its a must have. They're gonna spread out a steady supply of extras over two discs and theyre promising killer sound and picture quality. And its all kept in a sweet tin collector case.

Summary: True Horror Movie
Review: First of all, yes this is a remake, and yes, it is a remake to one of the most loved horror movies of all time. But this movie should be seen as a new movie, more of a re-imaging than a remake to the original TCM. When you get past that *and I had to, I love the original, it is one of the best movies ever made*, and you see this movie for sheer entertainment, then you will see what this movie truly is: a ruthless, balls-to-the-wall horror movie. I have never jumped out of my seat as many times as I did while watching this movie. When the horror starts, it doesn't stop, and it doesn't give the viewer a break. It is fast and its fierce. Sometimes I even thought it was too much for me, and I'm a HUGE horror movie fan, having seen many movies that were "supposed" to scare you. This is one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. And as a remake, it stands strong and sometiems even surpasses the original. Along with "The Ring", this is truly one of the best horror remakes ever made. Thank You Mr. Nispel!
