Rating: Summary: ITS A REMAKE.... and? Review: Ok lets see here.. I am a huge fan of the original did i like this remake? yes i did. and i will try to tell you why. It is not as slow moving as the original. the acting in my mind is better and i think that it brought a sense of ruthlessness to "the family" but not so much leatherface as the original did.. do i think that it is better than the original? no of course not and no one should expect it to be..is it as good? in some aspects yes in others no. so i will breakdown the diffrences for you as best as i can without ruining the movie for ya.THE ORIGINAL: - grimey had a sense of wow this really happend to it(even though it didn't) - slow moving story but once it got to where it was going you where in shock. - the casting was better - the cannablism was more prevelent - the charcters except grandpa seemed more real - had the crazy brother - did not have the hitchhiker last victim that barley escapes is in such shock she can't speak( witch was a little annoying in the new one) to replace the brother. - the original is just plain more vicious for lack of better words its a raw movie the newer version is more refined and clean THE REMAKE: - faster storyline but still packed a punch - the casting was ok but as far as sgt. Heartman from full metal jacket will always in my mind be sgt. Heartman and its hard at times to get past that. - leatherface has more wielding of the chainsaw and the final chase is a lot more drawn out - there is no crazy bro that likes to cut himself - the granpa thank god is not a guy in blue paint - and it packs more of a "look out your girlfriend is gonna jump on you and throw pop corn down your shirt" type feel to it you know one of those movies that try to make everyone jump. - it is defenitly an updated version to please a crowd of younger people but thats not a bad thing nor dose it make it a tennie bopper flick so i guess thats the best i can break down the differences down to you i will buy this when it comes out because i am a horror movie buff.. but for anyone who didn't like the original give this a chance it might be more suitable for you.... people who seen the original treat it as a new movie and just take a look i think you will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, gruesome, and makes you jump Review: I'm sure nearly everyone has seen the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, and the people who loved that movie will make comparisons to this movie. I won't. The casting for this movie was very good, and I thought Jessica Biel did an excellent job as the lead role. She's come a long way from her 7th Heaven beginnings, and now she can move onto even bigger and better things. It sure didn't take very long for the gore and the killing to begin. Usually a horror movie has about 30-45 minutes of storyline, then all hell breaks loose. Not here! Nearly the whole movie was in suspense mode, and the entire theatre jumped in unison about 10 times throughout the movie. There were a few minor flaws in the movie, such as certain times leatherfaces chainsaw wasn't actually on, yet he still killed people without pulling the cord to start it up. All in all, very entertaining movie, and there wasn't any "down" time, or time slots that were just filler. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. If you don't like gore, this movie probably isn't for you, because it got pretty gruesome at certain points.
Rating: Summary: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake? I dont think so Review: Just to start off, I thought this movie was outstanding.I saw it the day it came out. Not to say that its better than the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre but it does have some qualities that are better. To start off, I thought the acting in this movie was better and you actually felt emotion when saw the main characters die.I thought Jessica Biel did a great job playing the leading heroine. I also liked the fact that there was more gore in it but then people could say that what is left to your imagination is better. All in all, i believe it was a strong movie that used quite a few ideas of the original but was able to stray away and define itself. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes horror but not all people that liked the original because of its tendency to drift away from it.Great movie, cant wait til it comes out on DVD, March 30.
Rating: Summary: ANYTHING BUT A RE-MAKE Review: This 2003 FLICK BASED ON THE 1974 CLASSIC IS IT'S OWN MOVIE! The movie is completely different then the original, there is hardly anything in common, but it's great, it's fresh. It was scary, classy and suspenseful. One of the best scary movies in the last year. The movie is the strong point in the series, I would say out of the 5 TCM movies, the original is #1, the re-make is #2, part 3 is number 3, and the other 2 are okay, but not worth going over. Anyway, this film is very good and is one of the best modern horror movies out now.
Rating: Summary: If you really like Scary Movies... Review: I gave this movie 5 stars, because I haven't been able to finish it yet. Iwent to the theaters with my boyfriend to see it, and was so scared I had to leave before more than 2 people died. Feeling silly, I bought it for him so that we could watch it again, and I made it a little farther, but I still had to leave for a bit to regain my sense of realty. This movie was soooo scary. We watch our share of horror flicks, but even the second time, after reading a spoiler, this movie was still too scary for me! It's a whole suspense thing, plus, I started to really like some of the characters. So if you like really scary movies, I think this is a good one. But if you only kinda like really scary movies, make sure you have a blanket or a girl/boyfriend to hide behind.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed... Review: I a pretty big fan of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series. I'm not going to go into what was wrong with this one or what it lacked. I just want to say, if you haven't seen this or are a fan it will probably be a let down. If you are a newcomer to the series it will probably be alright. If you want to see something real good take a look at the original. In my opinion this does not hold a candle to the original or even the second. As for the next generation one, this is better than that but what isn't... Rent It!
Rating: Summary: Better than I expected Review: I usually shun slasher films, but the trailer for this movie was brimming with a spooky atmosphere that I ultimately couldn't resist. The premise behind the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a sadistic family in rural Texas with an adult son who kills and cannibalizes hapless travelers. While this is definitely NOT a movie to be watched over dinner, it does have some merits. Although the cannibalism element is superficially cheesy, one could argue that the fear of being killed and eaten is a primal human fear that precedes the modern movie era. Think about the witch in Hansel and Gretel, and the giant in Jack and the Beanstock. The quasi-human villains in both of these tales were cannibals, and there are more examples like them in ancient and medieval folklore. With these facts in mind, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has the potential to convey more than just gratuitous gore. The main villain, Leatherface, might be the embodiment of the mindless human irrationality that all of us fear. However, there are a few places where the movie wallows in an adolescent fascination with the blood and guts. Early in the film, one of the main characters looks at the remains of young woman and says, "Well, I guess that's what brains look like." Come on--no one would actually say this under the circumstances. A certain degree of gruesomeness is inevitable in a movie about a serial killer; but some of the dialog in these moments broke the spell of the film, and we were back in B-movie slasher territory again. The strong points of the movie are its suspense and atmosphere. The town where the story takes place is convincingly eerie. The members of the homicidal family are sinister, yet familiar enough to be believable. And you will probably watch most of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the edge of your seat; the plot moves briskly along from beginning to end. I suspect that the producers of this movie were torn between a desire to create a serious film in the horror genre, and a commercial impulse to make yet another forgettable slasher film. Their efforts have resulted in a movie that is somewhere in the middle.
Rating: Summary: Yuck! Review: What a waste of money this was! No suspense, no terror, no plot. Just your usual gaggle of brainless teenagers getting slaughtered one by one (As if we don't have enough of those already). Jeez, aren't there any *original* ideas in Hollywood anymore? Do we really need another movie with some dimbulb chick in a tank top and no bra is running away from a psycho? Endlessly grim, blood-drenched and unpleasant, this flick is as fun as driving rusty nails up your arms. It's a shame to see R. Lee Ermey and David Dorfman waste their talents in this mindless gorefest. Do yourselves a favor and skip this waste of celluloid.
Rating: Summary: magnificent DVD Review: Is this a great movie??? No, but it is not as bad as other people make it out to be. It has it's moments, but its not as good as the first movie done in 1974. I only hope that long time fans quit comparing this movie to the one done almost 30 years ago. People need to quit living in the past and recognize this movie for what it is: a good horror flick. Give credit to New Line Cinema for putting this dvd out. This is one of the best dvd's released so far this year in my opinion. The sound, picture and extras are wonderful. I can't help but gush when playing this on my home theater system. New line cinema is the standard of excellence when producing dvd's.
Rating: Summary: Forget the other CHAINSAW films... this is the only one Review: From the opening scene where gritty crime photos are shown to the shocking ending, the 2003 version of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is a thrill ride that I highly recommend for anyone who doesn't mind getting spooked. It has everything a horror film needs- scary story, creepy scenes, lots of screaming, gore, and best of all an unforgettable villain. Markus Nispel directs this Michael Bay production with classic style that really brings you into the story. For starters, this is not what I would consider a 'remake' of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The only things that are the same are that it has a Chainsaw, takes place in Texas, have five hippies, and has Leatherface. There is no Cannibalistic dinner scene and the hitchhiker in the remake is a distressed young woman, opposed to the hitchhiker in the original who is a member of Leatherface's family. The original also had somewhat of a dark comedy to it, and the remake is everything but funny. There is a meat hook scene, like the original, but here there is a young man with one leg who gets hung on it, and stays alive on the hook throughout most of the film. In the original it was a woman who we only saw hanging from the hook once. As you can tell, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is not for the sqeemish. It is brutal and relentless, taking the sickest of American culture and turning it into a disturbing film. Even though Leatherface (played by the perfectly cast Andrew Bryniarski) is a terrifying character, I believe that R. Lee Ermey steals the show as a deranged sheriff who is really like the leader of the family. The sheriff adds a dirty, brutal feeling to the movie. Among the five friends who fall prey to the family are Erin (Jessica Biel), her boyfriend Kemper (Eric Balfour), Kemper's buddy Andy (Mike Vogel), the drugged up nerd Morgan (Jonathan Tucker), and the hippie-chick Pepper (Erica Leerhsen). The movie itself is worth the buy, but if you are going to buy this DVD I recommend the New Line Platinum Series Special Edition. The Special Edition offers two disks loaded with extras including a Feature Length Commentary, Deleted Scenes, Alternate Opening and Closing, A Documentary, 7 TV Spots, Two Trailers, A Music Video, and three Audio Commentaries. Also there is a collectors metal faceplate with Leatherface and a group of case file pictures. So without a doubt, this "Massacre" is the one to watch.
