Summary: The Best Slasher Film in Years
Review: Wrong Turn is the kind of horror movie that is so much fun and that offers so many thrills, so many twists and turns, that you can't help yourself from enjoying it. This is one horror flick that delivers the goods.

A group of young twenty-somethings are stranded in the middle of a West Verginian woods after their cars are suspiciously forced off the road. Soon enough, they find themselves being hunted down by a family of hungry cannibals. One by one, they are killed off in that great slasher flick tradition.

Simple? Yes. Original. Not that much. What saves the film is the way in which it was executed. The makeup effects are great, the acting is surprisingly solid and some of the moments are so tense you won't be able to stop chewing on your nails. The score is chilling and some of the death scenes are actually very elaborate (one scene that takes place in a tree will probably become a cult fave).

After having suffered through countless horrible slasher flicks in the past few years, it was almost a relief to see the genre back to its original form. There are no self-referential moments in this film. There aren't any ditsy blonds running away from the killer, or masked psychos with a knife. Good old-fashioned scares abound in a film that is so fun and delivers the good so well you'll just want to watch it again.

Summary: PROPS FOR WRONG TURN!
Review: I give this one its props. Its been some time since i've seen what i consider one of the modern era horror films (im a follower of 70's and 80's horror fare) bring it like this one. This movie displayed a big set of brass balls and went the distance...well almost, in giving us an actual horror film. There was an absence of that self-referential humour that is popular these days and for that I thank the guys and gals who made this.
My one complaint: Eliza Dushku is a pretty girl, very easy on the eyes and for that, i'm thinking WB here! I just didnt buy her in the role she was in. TO buffy vampish. The DVD had a featurette called, "Eliza: Babe in the woods" or something. It was pretty much a lovefest for eliza. She was the weakest link in this thing, YO! Like I said, they almost went all the way but still pandered to their audience here by including dushku here. Oh well, they got to make money some how so i suppose its unavoidable.
3 inbred good old boys goes deliverance on some hapless souls who get stranded in their neck of the woods. Thats about it. It becomes a hunt as the group tries to outwit the rednecks and do poorly.
WOW! THey really brought out the red stuff for this one. The blood ran in rivers and i say bravo! There was also a fine collection of body parts on display. In various dismembered states. These good old boys know how to cut meaty, fleshy things! I am suprised at how much the censors let through. I watched a straight R version of the film and was satisfied.
T&A: We get eliza dushku in a very tight top and tight jeans. I guess this is the way of it with modern, mainstream horror. So be it. We get 2 other gals in similar states of dress. Ladies, you get a redneck with a torn shirt showing some chest.
Overall, a very gruesome and even frightfull flick.

Summary: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE LITE...
Review: I rented this film after viewing a trailer for it, because it had reminded me of two horror favorites: the film "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and an episode on the X Files about a backwoods inbred family. I was not disappointed, as it certainly seemed to be a cross between these two favorites.

While there were no real surprises, other than a very effective opening scene, the production values were first rate. The inbred family was certainly creepy and their house certainly was appropriately macabre and revolting, as befits such a family that enjoys dismembering and eating their victims. It is these hospitable folks that Eliza Dushku and her friends meet up with in the backwoods of West Virginia with predictable results.

The film simply offers a few thrills, some average acting, and, as I said, some first rate production values, thanks to film production veteran Stan Winston. It offers nothing more and nothing less, which is too bad, since it had those great production values going for it. The problem with the film is that it copied too much from other films without offering something of its own to give it that certain edge and make it memorable in its own right. Tobe Hooper did this better in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", as did the X Files television show. Still, notwithstanding its predictability, fans of the horror film genre should find this film enjoyable. It is, at the very least, worth a rental.

Summary: Wrong way!Go back!
Review: I rented this movie with an open mind and being a big fan of eliza dushku but i'm sorry this was terrible.I grew up on watching all the great horror and if you are gonna make a new movie that borrows so heavily from the classics then you have to at least bring something new to the table.Put your own spin on it and make the movie your own like lucky mckee did with "May".This movie has nothin,no new ideas,a poor script and worst of all it pulls all the punches.
I mean are we really supposed to believe that these evil mountain men are preying on innocent victims as good looking as eliza without so much as a top getting ripped off???Not even a hint of sexual violence. This is just an insult to the intelligence of a true horror fan and goes down on the long list of new horror movies(House of 1000 corpses, strangeland, ect) that dont have the guts to truly reinvent the genere.
The only releases of the last few years i can think of that have actually advanced the horror genere are "May" and "Dagon".
It is no wonder that asian horror is leaving hollywood for dead if they think they can get away with selling this recycled garbage to true horror fans.
Wake up filmakers in the US,your getting left behind by your international competitors!!!

Summary: Been Done Before and Better ...
Review: Generally speaking, I'm really not much a fan of just gratuitous violence or gore, but I MORE then understand its place in the world of horror movies. Sometimes the point of a horror movie becomes more about its ability to shock and "push the envelope" of the imaginary borders of its 'R' rating then about the actual story within the movie.

I know how strange that sounds, but think of a movie like the original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre.' Tobe Hooper was less concerned with the audience building up any emotional attachment to his characters as he was trying to freak out the audience with scenes of death and dismemberment that you'd NEVER even think possible for an 'R' movie.

Where am I going with this? Well, 'Wrong Turn' didn't do any of this. I was really surprised this was as tame as it was. I mean, if you're going to make a movie about inbred, mountain-men, cannibals, then take it all the way and try and do something really outrageous. Why settle for something that movies like 'The Hills Have Eyes' or 'TCM' have done better before. Your audience for this type of movie is DARING you to show them something they've never though possible. Do something that would have the MPAA white as a sheet when the house lights come on.

I felt like this just was a movie that wanted to do a lot more, but, for whatever reason, pulled back its punch at the last minute. It's a solid outing for (director) Rob Schmidt though, and I'm curious enough to see his next movie. I want to know if he held back here or was he being restrained? His next film may be a better indicator of his true creativity.

Summary: How to make money: put beautiful people in bad movies!!!
Review: This little piece of crap does everything as possible to insult your intelligence!!!. With a plot that copies the best aspects of deliverance, Texas chainsaw massacre (the original please!!!) and the Hills have eyes in a very stupid "cliche" matter and the performances of some of the most beautiful people in the world...I mean, if I only had a friend that looks like Eliza Dushku or the other girl in the movie!!!! Can someone tell me how to get amazingly beautiful friends please???!!!!...Well the rest is history. Go to the country, get lost (ohhhh that's something diferent in a movie!!!) wonder around an old house and guest what....the owners ain't so nice!!!...they eat people!!!! For Gods sake...can someone show me something more original. Now the little pretty rich kids from the city are hunted by the UGLY and dumb hillbillies from the backwoods!!! Great Idea!! I wonder why they didn't do the same in films like...Friday the 13th, Texas chainsaw massacre, Halloween, Black christmas, The Hills have eyes, Deliverance...UPPPS!! sorry, I think they DID!!!!....I guess who gets to be the only survivor and the one that kills the bad guys....the answer is the box of your dvd!!!. This movie sucks so much!! Get a good Idea....Buy Texas chainsaw massacre, Deliverance and The Hills have Eyes...the only bad thing about these films is that they don't include so much good looking people....maybe they are like me....they don't have beautiful friends.

Summary: WRONG TURN is the RIGHT MOVIE to see!!
Review: This movie is one of the best horror flicks I've seen in awhile...And Buffy fans will like it, cause it stars Eliza "Faith" Dushku--Who also stars in the newest coolest TV show, TRU CALLING..The cinematagraphy gives you the feel of 70's horror films, yet this one isn't cheesey..You get a little intro. to the main, shall I say, Victims, then BOOM!, the action starts..It's typically about a bunch of Geneticly Mutated hicks that live in the woods that enjoy going around trapping and killing their prey, which are passerbyers and campers...We have the 1st 2 dim-witted kids get killed first, then two that couldn't get away and by the end of the movie, the two wiser ones survive (hint, have a little FAITH, our favorite star survives!)..This movie doesn't stop from start to finish, has great background music and actually has a few scenes that leave you at the edge of your seats seeing how the victims try to escape the woods from these freaky hee-haws...if you wanna see a really good newer horrow movie, check this one out!!!

Summary: Wrong just wrong
Review: Oh my god. This movie is soooo oringal. Five white kids get lost in the woods. Instead of sticking to the old addage if your lost in the forrest hug a tree. They go wander of in thar hills. They knock at a creepy lookin house. No one is home so they all think "Hey let's go in." There is no phone no light no motor car. Yet they stay anyway to look at the cool collection of creepy inards. The big bad wolf comes back home. The kids are like "Zoiks we better hide." Half of the oh so amazingly good looking scantly cald crew get hacked to bit. Then comes the end or is it the end? Oh no my friend. Look for Another wrong turn and No outlet.
