Rating: Summary: Leatherface Lives Review: I don't think there is a bigger fan of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre than myself. I can't wait for the re-make to get onto DVD so I can have a party with TCM on the big screen. The idea of this movie being re-made outside of the control of Hooper scared me. I was expecting a disaster. What I got was overwhelming. The cinematography was outstanding. The scene where leatherface chases the guy through the sheets is over the top. The deafening sound of the chainsaw, the color of the sky, the blowing of the sheets, the caveman-like movements of Leatherface. By far the best scene in the movie. I want to see the movie again just for this scene. I also liked the physical body movements of Leatherface. He seemed to capture the character that Gunnar Hansen created in the first film perfectly. A deranged homicidal maniac with mental retardation. Great stuff... With the exception of Ermy, the other characters were also new enough faces to capture some of the feeling from the first film. They were good. You liked them. I thought that the overt sexual appearance of Beil was completely unnecessary. Almost distracting. She is a very pretty, curvy woman, but I found her curves distracting, and gratutitous. It subtracted from the film by making the film seem like "Scary Movie". But her acting was great. They could have developed the interfamily dynamics a little better, but never the less, this is a severely disfunctional family. The only element that was surprisingly missing was the dinner table scene from the original. I thought they could have had some fun with this one. I'm not sure why they chose to omit... In any case, and independent of the original, this is a scary, stylish and utterly raw portrayal of the Leatherface character. Don't miss it. It is concevably one of the best horror films ever made. Truly. It will leave you gripping the person next to you. My wife who loves popcorn did not eat a single bite once this movie started, and ripped my arm out of the socket by the last scene. Enjoy!!!!
Rating: Summary: Go Balfour!!! Review: I felt like I was a part of the movie. Eric Balfour is one to watch for. He will be bigger than life within the next few years! Congrats on a job well done!!! A++++++
Rating: Summary: Pretty Sweet Movie Review: I saw the movie a few hours ago and it freaked me out. Just to make sure, I checked about the "true story" on line. Apparently, the movie is loosely based on the story of Ed Geins, a psycho cannabalist from Wisconsin (not Travis County, TX. quit giving my city a bad name!) And I read some interviews with the director and he said, it was loosely based on Ed and that he got the chainsaw idea from a display of chainsaws at a hardware store. But the movie was pretty scary. Very jumpy and suspenseful and disturbingly nausiating. I was shaking and jittery for an hour after the movie and I don't get scared by movies very easily. Definitely go see this movie and check out the earlier versions as well.
Rating: Summary: If you think this is scary, you need a lesson in horror Review: The new remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an a film not needed. We have the orignial 1974 classic that was created excellently, and told a terrifying story. The new film doesn't tell a story. It just lays out the elements for the Teen Slash and Bash film. As you can guess, everyone is picked off one by one. For those who say it is "scary" or "stylish", or perhaps even "crafty", you are certianly wrong. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is stupid, dull, UNoriginal, and boring. She runs, the truck doesn't start, the loud noise snaps and its only a cat. Wow. These things are really scary... I suppose there are some people who are looking for a mindless gorefest. For these people, go ahead and see TCSM. You'll just be (wasting) 98 minutes of you life.
Rating: Summary: Come On, People! LIGHTEN UP, WILL YA?!?!?!?! Review: I DON'T KNOW WHY SOME OF YOU MOVIE LOVERS THINK THIS RATHER UNESSESARY (BUT STILL GOOD) REMAKE IS BAD! I MEAN, I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE GREATEST HORROR THRILLER EVER MADE!! I ALMOST SCREAMED LIKE A LITTLE GIRL!!! SO SHOW SOME BACKBONE, HUH?!?!?! I JUST SIMPLY CAN'T BELEIVE SOME OF YOU DIDN'T LIKE THIS MOVIE!!!! OKAY, SO YOU THOUGHT THE ORIGINAL WAS GREAT, RIGHT? BUT THAT ONE WAS MADE WAY BACK IN 1974, A TIME WHERE MOVIE MAKERS DIDN'T HAVE THE KINDS OF SPECIAL EFFECTS EQUIPMENT WE HAVE TODAY, RIGHT? SO THEREFORE, I THOUGHT A REMAKE OF WHAT MAY BE THE MOST DISTURBING MOTION PICTURES EVER WOULD BE A MARVELOUS IDEA. IF YOU DIDN'T LIKE THIS MOVIE, YOU MUST NOT HAVE UNDERSTOOD IT. SO I SUGGEST THAT YOU GO WATCH IT AGAIN AND GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE AND STOP WRITING TERRIBLE REVEIWS ABOUT "TERROR-IFIC" MOVIES, GEEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Texas Massare Roars Back To Life Review: Based on supsoside true events, this remake of the classic Horror flick "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", is the first movie in a long time to literally scare the hell out of me! Even two hours after the movie was over, I was still shaking. I saw this movie opening night, and was very impressed. It's one of those few horror movies that really sticks to the characters and doesn't rely on the blood and guts factor. This was a great movie and I admire how real the acting was. I thought that this was happening right in front of me (and to me) as I was watching. I have now seen the movie twice and believe me, I will be first in line when it is released on DVD! Keep screaming, Im out.
Rating: Summary: remakes are not always for the better Review: I rewatched the "original" TCM the day before I saw the new remake that is currently in the theaters. Although I thought the new movie was good, it however lacked the genuine "creepiness" and downright scary elements of the original. Sure, there was a lot more blood and gore, but the original movie beats this one hands down. In the original, you had the weird hitchhiker that set up the sinister forewarnings of what was to come. Also, the remake had no Grandpa scene, which really was one of the creepiest parts of the entire movie, right along with old Leatherface, himself! Also, remember how "whinney" Franklin was? This remake just didn't have the same element of fright as the original! Maybe Hollywood should try brainstorming for fresher ideas, instead of going back and remaking "classics".

Rating: Summary: Terrifying! Surpasses the Original Review: I saw this the day it came out, never have seeing any of the previous TCM movies. From what I heard, the origional one was very scary, and I am into scary movies! I saw this movie with an open mind and I can honestly say that it scared the hell out of me! It has its fair shares of thrills, I won't give any away, but I highly recommend you see this movie! Ok, I've heard a lot of critics dismembering this movie for the simple fact that it is a re-make of a classic (?) Well, the day after I saw this movie, I went to a local Blockbuster, and rented the origional. If I had seen the origional before the re-make, I would not have wanted to go see the re-make! The origional is very lame, not boring, but moves too fast! 4 of the 5 people get killed in 10 minutes! Their deaths should have been spaced out a lot more! And it just ends suddenly! It is freaky, but in a bad way. I just think it moved along too fast! But the new one had the killings seperated just right! And they did it with taste! The whole movie was tasteful! But I'm sure critics would have praised it more if some of the subjects had been left out, like going to Mexico to get 2lbs of marijuana?? That right there make critics a bit shy of the movie. And the guy and the girl making love in the back seat. There was no point in those 2 subjects. I'm sure that if they would have been left out or altered, it would have been just as sucsessful and critics would have liked it too! The acting was all good except for the one nerdy guy who's lip quivered too much! I was like could someone please throw this baby a bottle and get on with the story! Anyways-the effects were good and so was the music! The way the director put this movie together made it a good movie. He took his time and wanted everything to look good and he succeded! Unlike the origional TCM director, which it seems like he let 8 people loose in a field and put it all together in one night! It was just too, hurried! And he never ventured into the character development! I hardly know most of the peoples name in the 74 version! But the re-make had everything balanced perfectly! We could relate to the characters because we knew about them. So I think the critics are worng in their judging of this movie! I think that when it comes out on DVD or VHS that they need to sit down one night and watch the two back to back and I'm sure that the re-make will please them more than they thought it would! As a matter of fact, I recommend everyone else does the same, for fun! Before you go see the re-make, rent the 74 version, sit down and watch it and then head off to the theaters! The new one is a sure crowd pleaser! And for the people who grew up with the 74 version, see this one too. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: Overall, a good film and a decent remake! Review: On its own, this film was absolutely fantastic! The acting was good, the storyline was good, the special effects were good...and the film was entertaining most of the time with only the occasional dull spot. However, when you compare this to the original TCM, it doesn't even come close. (I am really not too much of a fan of remakes). First off, the story in this film was slightly different than the original, making this film more like another sequel than a remake. Remaking a cult classic is a challenging task, though, and I give the people involved in this a great deal of credit for their effort and hard work. However, it is nearly impossible for a remake or sequel to ever be better than an original...so this film was probably as good as it could have been given these circumstances. A couple of details I noticed in this movie that are worth a mention: the family was not as insane as they perhaps should have been... so that kind of made the movie a little too rational. Also, the writers decided to give Leatherface a background in an attempt to humanize him, which I think was a mistake. Leatherface kills simply because he can, not because he was tormented as a child (as this film leads you to believe). Other than these few little concerns, however, this movie really was entertaining and it had some comic relief which was fun. I would recommend that any horror lover with a strong stomach see this film, but please, PLEASE make sure that if you haven't seen the original film, you do so at some point because it is a classic and so much better than any remake could ever be. I consider myself to be against remakes in most cases (because I believe that cult horror classics are perfect the way they are and should not be touched). If you remake a classic movie, you kind of skew people's perceptions of the original movie, which is a shame. TCM 2003 is one of the rare exceptions in the remake category. This film is really good on its own and is worth seeing just for the entertainment. Just make sure that you see the original film as well (assuming you haven't already)!
