Summary: Humorless, darker, as good if not better than the original
Review: The original film easily had more (perhaps, unintentional) humor and more oddball characters, but the new version is much darker and disturbing. There is absolutely no humor or comic relief in this film, whatsoever. It seems to demand repeat viewings to gain more of a perspective. I didn't see it during it's initial big-screen release, so can only evaluate the DVD version. I was wondering if there was something wrong with my DVD or player because quite a few scenes are very dark or poorly lit. Maybe this was just the way it was originally filmed and intended to be viewed. The only real complaint I have with the film is the somewhat silly and improbable ending featuring the supposedly "authentic" footage with the police officer exploring the crime scene. As has been previously noted and commented on, the camera definitely had a real fascination with heroine Jessica Biel's most appealing, tank-topped [tops]. They do bounce most noticeably and prolifically when she runs throughout most of the film, although quite surprisingly, even when she gets wet, you never even see her nipples!! It must have been some unusual bra she was wearing!! Her acting was fine, along with that of the rest of the cast. The acting was certainly a cut above for most films of this kind. R. Lee Emrey, as usual, stole every scene he was in, as the most unusual redneck sheriff, who practiced his own peculiar brand of police brutality. The violence was much more graphic than the original's, perhaps due to a much larger budget and nearly thirty years of advances in make-up effects. Although, due to the many dark scenes, you aren't really sure just how much you are actually seeing. The remake's most unusual hitchhiker was quite a change from the original film's similar character. It was a truly bizarre and jarring twist in what seemed to be an almost identical storyline up to that point. The original film is a classic, but this film does absolutely nothing to tarnish it's predecessor's image. It stands well on it's own merits. Unlike so many well-intentioned remakes that disappoint and much more like the bigger budgeted and in my most humble opinion, highly impressive new version of the classic "Dawn of the Dead", this remake is a most worthy one. I surprisingly also noted in the end credits that the original film's creators, co-screenwriter and producer, Kim Henkel and co-screenwriter and director, Tobe Hooper are both listed as co-producers of the remake!!

Summary: Not really a remake
Review: If you've never seen the original, than you'll probably love this movie. It fun, gory, your typical horror film fare. As a remake the movie is horrible. Character are missing. Scenes are missing and the freaky grandpa is missing.

Summary: The Scariest film I have seen in a long time...
Review: I rented this movie the other night with that kind of lackluster knowlegde that is put into renting the usual cheese filled horror movies that have been mass produced since I Know What You Did Last Summer and all of those other crap movies. I popped this bad boy in and was shocked to find myself nervously biting my nails and unusually squeamish through most of the film. I am a big horror fan and although I am not an expert on them I do think I have seen enough of them to know what is good and what isn't...and this was the first movie to ACTUALLY freak me out in a long time. This movie is literally disturbingly graphic! The blood and gore is intense, although not as tremendously over the top as some zombie flicks such as Braindead or Day of the dead. This is truly a dark horror film. The cheery opening sequence, which introduces us to 5 young adults on there way to a Lynard Skinnard Concert is excruciatingly short and really is meant to just BARELY give us hints of the characters personalities. We instantly know that Jessica Biel (Erin) is the good girl(although she seems to have been a bad girl in her past) with the higher morals than her fellow pot heads, and that her boyfriend Kemper, played by Eric Balfour(Six feet under, Kids Incorporated)loves her and the two seem to want to get married. The other travelers are the irritatingly cowardous Morgan, who is played by Jonathan Tucker and newly introduced couple Pepper and Andy-who seem to love groping eachother after just having met. Although any viewer of horror films will surely know that only one of these kids will survive (i'll give you a hint-the person is on a show that rhymes with Eleventh Kevin-hmmm)the movie serves up enough jolting scares and heart pounding moments to satisfy any viewer looking for a good dose of film terror. I loved this movie in a weird way. It left me thinking about it for days. I couldn't stop thinking how scary it was and how eerily disturbing it was. The cinematograpy is great too. Although, I am taking a star off for some unnecessary cheese moments like Jessica Biels Bra-less soaked tank top (Although most guys will appreciate it), slight confusion on bits of the hillbilly plot lines, and a couple corny lovey dovey lines in the very beginning of the movie. This movie was a great horror film. It was the first movie in a long time to actually disturb me and have me thinking about it long after I finished it. I appreciated this movie for what it is...a stylishly cinematic slasher flick that is highly underrated.

Summary: Good Movie
Review: A routine in the horror films, kill the popular characters first. In the case for this movie I think it was a mistake. As soon a the interesting good actors/characters got sliced and diced I found the movie less interesting. They saved the annoying stupid characters over the smarter ones. I am glad that Jessica Biel was on for the whole movie. I hated Halloween Resurrection because they showcased Jamie Lee Curtis as the star but she was only on for a cameo. The things I have against this movie is that it has way too many weird characters, they all happen to be friends or related, the action is hardly even there, it really is not that scary, and like I said before I think that they should have cast a more appealing bunch. Biel, Balfour, and Vogel were well cast and likeable, but I felt Tucker was not a right fit in THIS film, and I am sorry to say Leerhsen was no good at all. Overall okay, the things that were good was the location, lighting, film quality, and scenes with Leatherface, Biel, Balfour, and Vogel.

Summary: A fine remake!
Review: A remake of the 1974 horror classic that shocked the world has arrived! It's the true story of a group of college students who are traveling in Texas on august 16th 1973 but when they pick up a hitchhiker, the hitchiker kills herself and the students must find help. But when they stumble into a house, they find out there is more than help, there is a family of crazed cannibal chainsaw weilding maniacs led by Leatherface.

Suprisingly good, disturbing and violent remake with great acting, gore, torture, some laughs and stays true to the original true story of the original murder that inspired the 1974 horror classic.

Highly recommended but not for the squeamish!

Summary: The Best Movie of The Year
Review: I got 2 words to describe this movie CRA-ZY, this is one of the best horror movies of the year. I loved every bit of this movie from begining all the way to the ending. They need to remake the rest of the old TCM movies. This is a must own DVD.

Summary: Scary Scary Scary
Review: Jessica Biel is Hot, Hot, Hot!! This movie is scary scary scary.

Hot chick, scary movie = lots of entertainment.

I think it has kept in line with the original and it's campy, nitty gritty, evilness. I'd be curious to find out which version is closer to the actual events of what happened. Is there a book out on this monstrous crime? I got the impression the Texas Chain Murderer was never caught. No family that wierd could have hidden from or out smarted the law. What ever happened to them?

This movie is not for kids, but would be fum to watch with your girlfriend or wife.

Summary: Awful movie, Excellent DVD!
Review: While the film was a tepid remake of a horror classic, I'm basing this 5 star rating strictly on the DVD.

The packaging was great (metal front cover) and we get "evidence" photos, an Ed Gein documentary and Eric Balfour naked! That alone is worth $30 to see!

Summary: Excellent Remake
Review: Anyone who thinks this film isn't deserving of the title and isn't worth anyone's time is messed up in the head. However, anyone who thinks this film is better than the original is also messed up. Most remakes are not as good as the original however this film is almost on par with the 1973 film. It is definately bloodier and the perverse humor is gone but it is still terrifying enough. Buy the Platinum EDition DVD. The extra features are great.

Summary: AT LAST!!!RESPECT!!!has been payed to the ORIGINAL!!!!!!!
Review: this movie is awsome!!i just got the double disc platnum series set and all i have to say is this is what collecting horror dvds and or dvds in general is all about.first off you get a wicked cool metal face plate(im putting mine in a picture frame)it also comes with an unopened blood stained envelope with crime scene photo's in it.the actual caseing itself open's up to be a big chainsaw blade and thats not even getting to the movie or the awsome speacial features it cmes with.the special features are great you get a making of documentry ,alternate begining%ending(WICH IM VERY GLAD THEY LEFT OUT,THEY WOULD HAVE TAKEN SOME OF THE RAW!!!EDGE OFF THE MOVIE!!!)some deleted scenes and a bunch more stuff but the best speacial feature of them all is "the goul of plainfeild:a documentry on ED GEIN the inspiration for all that we have come to know as the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE legacy, some great stuff here!!!now about the movie it was awsome!!good directing/good acting/good murder scenes/good special effects/spooky little storyline in my opinion this is not a remake!!its good all by itself,by far the best since the original!!!i really want to thank M.BAY&M.NISPEL for paying respect to the original while they were making this one, and only taking what they needed from it so the new one could be original in its own wright.look horror fans my opinion is that the original T.C.M.is the holy grail of horror movies nothing will ever change that,as a matter of fact the further we go into the future, the further away we get from ORIGINALITY!!but when somthing like T.C.M.2003 or movies like"DAWN OF THE DEAD 2004" "CABIN FEVER" "THE EYE" and "HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES"come along we horror fans have got to feel good about the future of manstream horror!!!!!!so here's to another 30 years to the legacy of the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE!!!!bottom's up
