Summary: Nice change from the usual horror-suspense fare
Review: Yes, this movie is gimmicky; yes, the characters are thin. But although I'll admit to the myriad flaws, I still say "Final Destination" is more unique and imaginative than the proverbial 99% of horror flicks out there--if you can even call it horror, seeing how there's no "evil" component in the story. How many other films can you think of entirely based around accidental deaths? Well, perhaps several, but not recently! What we have here most closely resembles a drawn-out installment of "The Twilight Zone", which makes sense considering that the director (James Wong) and screenwriter (Glen Morgan) worked on some of the better "X-Files" episodes.It is definitely a teen movie, just not the kind with cliches about popularity, college plans, the rich kid's sexpot mom--you know, the usual Hewitt-Gellar-Holmes tripe. Also it's refreshingly devoid of sentimentality (originally there was a full-blown "romance" bit, pared down for the final edition and stuck in the DVD's deleted scenes). I predict the most jaded viewer will find something to like, particularly since there aren't any ghosts/serial killers and the plot follows a more-or-less "realistic," albeit Rube-Goldbergian, path. The young cast does a great job, best of all Sawa who has you rooting for him from the beginning. The flaws: the director has managed to make a lot of amateurish calls (lame moments of soliloquy; somewhat laughable encounter with a scary mortician; telegraphs some deaths too early; and a clever ending that nevertheless feels totally tacked on). There's a minor pacing problem, with most of the grisly/cool stuff happening in the first half. Overall it's well-written, yet they did miss some opportunities (e.g. Ali Larter's character--mysterious at the beginning, but too obviously "good" and not sinister enough; otherwise it would be more fun wondering why's gotten involved with "Stan" & friends in the first place). None of this ruins the experience because director Wong clearly has a sense for good storytelling and keeps it moving. The effects are of course important here and they don't disappoint. Somehow I completely missed the theatrical release but after catching the "Coming Soon To Video" trailer on another rental I vowed to see it. Certainly one of the most under-looked films of 2000, on grounds of pure enjoyability.

Summary: Can you say Tease?
Review: Much, much better than I anticipated. I expected a corny schlocky teen flick (and there is some of that) but it is so creepily done that the thrills outweigh the drawbacks in this one. Basically, the gang is marked for death - they know it and we know it. The thrills come into play with the when and the how. Wong TEASES us to death with this part of the film. Great, elaborate teases arise as each character meets his/her doom. Most of the tension comes from the set-ups and they are very well done. Fun, effective and eerie. Recommended.

Review: ... It is a very interesting idea for a movie plot, but you can't take it too seriously.
... I will say that the opening crash scene got to me. It was almost TOO realistic. Much of the movie was humorous, but it was still very well done. It got the goosebumps going a few times and the methods of death were always fresh and different (although I figured out the train one before it happened, most didn't reveal what the ultimate form of death would be-you just knew that something was going to happen). I think it is worth a viewing, but expect some corny parts. The ending was more funny than scary. You'll see it coming.

Review: Final Destination
Rated R for disturbing images, violence, and strong language Plot: A teen named Alex (Devon Sawa) is leaving on a class trip to Paris. On the plane, he has a premonition that it will explode. He goes berserk and is ousted from the plane. Along with him are Clear, Carter, Billy, Mrs. Lewton, Terry, and Tod. They don't believe what Alex is saying. Yet, the plane explodes with everyone on it. Then for the rest of the movie we have the seven people running from death. They cheated death and it's taking them back one by one. Plot - 94 - It has a good plot! Something fresh and new..... I have never seen something like this before. Acting: The acting is good. It has teenagers, but they are not your usual stupid teenagers. They get to the basics to find out what is going on. Acting - 92 - Good job! Enough said! Killings - They are pretty cool! Heads sliced off, getting run over by a truck, etc. Killings - 95 - Gruesome but fun to watch! Overall - 94 - Great movie! Great effects! Great kills!

Review: I thought this movie was pretty good. Final Destination stands apart from the Screams, I Know What You Did Last Summers and Urban Legends. It's not really a teen horror movie either, I'd consider this to be a little bit of everything, Suspense, Thriller, Mystery and for lack of a better name, semi Horror. On their senior class trip to France, Alex (Davon Sawa) falls aa;eep on the plane before take off and has a terrible nightmare that the plane was going to explpde. When he wakes from his nightmare, he does something that he also did in his dream and in a hysteric fit, proclaims that the plane was going to explode. This stunt gets him kicked off the plane, along with a few of his friends and his teacher. After the plan they were supposed to take takes off, it explodes. After this, the kids find out that they were more than lucky because something else had a plan for them. This movie will freak you out. Plus it's also a nice step away from all those other Teen Slashers that I'm sure most of us were getting sick of. This is a very respectable movie in it's own and each scene where someone is killed, it's very unique and not, oh someone gets stabbed. This is a very cool movie to own. If there was one movie out of the whole Teen Horror movie era, FINAL DESTINATION should be that one movie. Really, check out this movie. You won't be disappointed. This is a total non stop thrill ride from beginning to end.

Summary: Very Cool Premise which turns into a not so good movie!
Review: ... I have to say that I was expecting so much more from this film. The idea of death catching up to those who have avoided it makes a really cool premise for a movie, but in the end it just doesn't live up to my expectations. The acting is rather weak and the ending is pretty bad as well. If you don't take the movie too serious you probably will enjoy much more. I will admit the death seens were wickedly cool, but that still doesn't make up for a movie with so much potential that just fails to deliver.

Summary: DEFYING THE FICKLE FINGER OF FATE...
Review: This teen scare flick is a cut above most others. Here it is not some crazed killer which does away with most of the cast but, rather, the fickle finger of fate which selects the next denizen of the great beyond. The movie starts off happily enough with a class of high school seniors about to depart for Paris. Once they board the plane, our main man, Alex, cannot quite overcome his fear of flying, as he has a premonition that the plane is going to blow up upon takeoff. His hysteria is such that he, as well as four other students are escorted off the plane and accompanied by faculty members, one of whom returns to reboard the plane. No sooner does the plane take off, that it blows up in mid air. It seems that fate has snatched these lucky individuals out of death's clutches...or has it? Their relief, at having escaped being blown up on the plane, turns to terror, as it appears that fate will not have them cheat death. The lengths that these young people go to to evade fate, and the steps that fate takes to hunt them down one by one, makes for a crafty and clever thriller. Teens and adults alike will enjoy this flick.
