Summary: Chainsaws are fun!
Review: Chainsaw remains, to me, one of the strangest and scariest films of all time. It is more and more horrific as you watch it. But the terror doesn't end there, this is definitly a collector's item at its best. You will never tire of this film. Each time you watch it, it becomes more and more horrifying. Even to a jaded horror fan like me, TTCM remains horrifying. Especially effective are the scenes where leatherface spontaneously erupts out of his workshop and does away with the intruders. I can never get over the fact that the infamous BBQ is actually human remains! Truly a horror masterpiece. Buy It, Its Definitly Worth It!

Review: It`s good and all but the ending lacks something. For it`s time a shocking piece. It`s good fun all the same!

Summary: What about the DVD?
Review: Well yes the film is damn good, and yes if you get into it it scares you out of your mind. This is not because of the simple shock tatics like you'd expect but down to the realism of the thing, ther's little blood but the main characters screaming just went right through me. I suppose to sum it up i'd refer to it as SCooby Doo does extreme horror. Anyway as for the DVD there are two things i must mention; 1.Since the movie was originally shot on 16mm film don't expect a crystal clear image, it's a little muddy but still a lot better than the print i saw in a cinema just last week. 2.The extras on this disc are great. There's loads of extra footage complete with a text intro to each item. Furthermore the commentary is continuous (the director, director of photography and leatherface himself)and very insightful to both the film making process and gags on set. There's also stills of merchandise and posters from all over the world, as well as trailers for part 2, 3 and 4 (with 3 proving to be the funniest). Kidnapping and dismembering teenagers has never been so good.

Summary: Chainsaws and Canibals
Review: A group of young tennagers go for a summer drive out in the dry, deserted areas of texas and get stalked by a family of demented canibals. Supposably based on a true story, but how close it was to the real story is something quite questionable. Not nearly as gory or disturbing as its praised to be.

Summary: Must know what you're getting into before you slide it in
Review: 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' - three words, each one the size of something very large. This film was actually banned in my country, the UK. Knowing that alone incited me to see it and I did see it ten years ago. I was a little disappointed by it on video but not much. It has a bizarre storyline which is in itself enough to tell you to brace yourself for forthcoming nastiness. Beginning of story: freaked-out kids driving across Texas in a Sin Bin van pick up a bearded, scrawny lunatic hitch-hiker whom they soon discard because he takes out a razor and goes berserk. Two things are wrong right there. Firstly, it seems that the writers were too busy trying to avoid the cliche of a flat-tyre-on-a-rainy-night- in-the-middle-of-nowhere that they injected some weirdness right off the bat. The mistake with that is that you get desensitized early on and anticipate a violence which never really arrives anyway. The opening scenes are a premonition of something which just can't precipitate. There's comedy in the movie in the form of the sheer badness of some of the story-accessories (especially the muppet-like grandfather) which kills suspense. There are also some 'hard-grind' areas where the intensity is too great to lead to anything else but anticlimax. Leatherface is a formidable foe all right but his retardate nature depresses rather than thrills. The plot isn't bad in itself - it's just middle-of-the-road, predicatable and unfurls in a convoluted spiral. So, after all that, why did I still give it 4 whole stars? Easy. Art-direction and atmosphere deserve a star each in this pic. For all its cheapness, the T.C.M. does more than redeem itself in the way its sets are presented. Very claustrophobic indeed. Star number three goes directly to the fact that, like all cult movies, the pioneer has to start somewhere to be able to come out the other end and move on. For Hooper, 'Salem's Lot' alone is where he shone truly. But the fourth star? That is entirely due to my idiosyncratic view of the T.C.M. Okay, that and the fact that it has a darker ending than anything imaginable. By being one of the progenitors of the 'vid nasties' of the '80's, T.C.M. has an identity which is in itself awesome to behold. Made for about $30,000 (in 1974 money), this serves as a testament to the benefits of bad publicity creating good marketing. Nice job. Too bad about the film's cast and the quirks of the writer/s but at least the good elements ensure the movie's survival. Despite being dated and hampered by a sound so muddy that even a digital transfer can't add treble to it, T.C.M. does manage to deliver goods you won't expect it to. You may have watch it more than twice (beware- it is very draining to watch as it can be as depressing as a Faces of Death film) to glean all you can. You won't be scared much by it, though. In fact, you will be scared precious little by it. To sum it up in three adjectives: apocalyptic, grotesque and dark. Not for those in mental distress. Also - be sure NOT to check out any of the three sequels as they are complete and utter wastes of time, money and effort.

Summary: WARNING! AND I MEAN IT!
Review: I am a horror movie fanatic, but when I saw this movie when it was re-released in 1980, I cried on the way home! Granted, I was 13, but I was already a horror film junkie! This is the most effective horror movie ever, and is truly not to be bought lightly.

Summary: gripping, sick, wonderfully deranged, gotta love it :)
Review: This is the sickest, most deranged movie I've ever seen! My favorite way to view: home alone on a rainy day, all lights out, munching on some BBQ or KFC. Nearly had a heart attack watching some of the chase sequences. TCM's raw intensity makes slick Hollywood movies like "Scream" & "I Know What You Did Last Summer" look embarassingly juvenile. TCM is what horror is all about - raw, visceral in-your-face terror that doesn't let you forget. Highly recommended, but not for the faint-hearted!

Summary: A Truly Terrifying, Intense Film
Review: First and foremost, TCM lives up to its almost mythical level of fame. If you are a BIG horror fan (i.e. you hate Scream and the crappy Hollywood "Horror" flicks that come out now) you will have a blast watching it. This film gains respect from me because it truly terrified me (and I've seen PLENTY of horror films). This was the only film I can remember that got my heart beating, and I almost dreaded to see some of the heinous acts played out in the movie. And TCM scares you without resulting in a bloodbath; in fact, it's nowhere nearly as gory as its famed to be. TCM leaves a lot to your imagination; believe me, that is VERY effective. Overall, I can't recommend this terrifying masterpiece enough. It ranks up there with the classic and influential horror films (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Suspiria, Halloween,etc...).
