Rating: Summary: Disturbing must-see Review: It's unfortunate that this film has been dubbed a horror movie. Some people seem to be upset that it's not a total gore-fest, but this film is more frightening than any of the mass-produced, trite fright flicks that seem to be turning up these days (like Scream and its contrived siblings). If you're not freaked out by Henry then you have watched the film with the wrong attitude. This is the kind of movie that makes you cross your legs and fold your arms around your body and say "Gah!" Film and video students should watch this, there are a few things to be learned from it... However, if you're a sensitive soul, go for something less real. I'm a horror buff and I love gore, but movies don't scare me easily anymore. Henry is one of only 2 movies that have really creeped me out. The other one is the Exorcist.
Rating: Summary: GET THE VHS VERSION Review: I believe the VHS version of this clasic serial killer film has the scenes that were edited out in the DVD. Particularily the scene where he murders the housewife whose house he got into by posing as a bug exterminator. The VHS shows him actually doing this gruesome killing whereas in the DVD just the body of her is shown with a voice over from the unedited versionTom Hooke's first film. He's had a good career since then. Being from Chicago I liked the locations used in that city. I recognized some of them. I have used it in my psychology class to show what a real serial killer is like rather than the glamorizeds one in, say, "Silence of the Lambs." The atudents find it hard to take.
Rating: Summary: One Great Movie Review: Some people misunderstand this film and see what the meaning of this film is all about. I still can`t see why many reviewers called this a horror film, because from section I rented the movie, the genre that have seen it located in many stores, and from watching the film. It seem like this film is more of Crime-Drama film than horror film. Michael Rooker shines as Henry, while his cast members are not bad or great for as their roles in this film. The film is excellent and very-well made. The plot is almost superb, but had some its of moments. The film idea accured from the confession of Henry Lee Lucas on 20/20. Otis played by Tom Towles, I'm guessing was sort of based on the serial killer Ottis Toole who did have younger sister in real life named Becky, but she was only a young girl around 7-9 when she was staying with the two psychos. The film tries to sum down a bit from the real murders, but just little. Yes, It is probably one of the most disturbing movie all time. Still great film to watch or rent at any time and not for the whole family, either. Personally, every movie I've watch has not been disturbing at all from the odd Peter Jackson films, Sam Raimi's Evil Dead Trilogy, from Leatherface , Seven, and Story of Ricky. Please, there just movies people.
Rating: Summary: Nothing even remotely REAL, as the box would have u believe Review: I am having a hard time understanding how exactly anyone could see this movie as anything except a second-rate slasher flick. There is a scene where Henry and Otis kill an extremely overweight man and it ends with Henry smashing a TV onto his head. (and then of course, "Turn it on, Otis"). Maybe it's just me, but that sounds like any other slasher flick. Dumb and Unreal. And the acting and script were terrible. Example Otis: "I'm so mad I could kill somebody" Henry: "What did you say?" Otis: "I'm so mad I could kill somebody" Henry: "Let's go for a drive, Otis" To sum it up, no gore, only one believable killing scene (in the house), bad acting, bad script (and the fact that this was rated NC-17 due to "tone" is a load of bull....If it wasn't for this, this film would never have gotten any attention)
Rating: Summary: An amazing haunting masterpiece of REAL terror Review: When I first saw HENRY I thought it a little bleak and Henry a wooden 2 - D character hard to feel emotionally attached to. This ofcourse I found out after a second veiwing around a year later is the brilliance of the film and Micheal Rooker's portrayal of Henry. Who wants to feel emotionally attached to him? (Even though the film makes you). Henry Lee Lucus was in real life totally devoid of worth and since his execution know one will ever remember him. He was just a dud in society. This film perfectly portrays him and his seedy friend and their total disregard for life. Buy it and keep it in the knowledge you own a major landmark in movie history. It being the only film to show you REAL NO HOLDS BARRED HORROR.
Rating: Summary: Misunderstood.... Review: People who expect this to be creepy or scary arent going to get what they are looking for. Henry is disturbing yet chooses not to glam serial killing in a way most hollywood films do. Instead it shows it to be a fire burning within the mundane everyday life the protagnist lives, ala American Psycho. The violence isnt as graphic as all the "warnings" would have you believe yet it becomes all the more powerful for the fact that most of the violence exists in your head. Yet, the film doesnt possess the power to really make a mark on the viewer. It reaches certain points, yet just as it seems to be getting into your skin, it falls back into a void. The soundtrack is fairly bad and the acting, apart from rooker, isnt great. Worth a look. Perhaps it may have more of an effect on others...
Rating: Summary: Great music, too slow plot, SCREAM was more gory Review: I was very dissapointed after watching Henry. I kept hearing how gruesome it was, in fact, most of the time you didn't see the killings. I counted 15 slain bodies, but you will be more scared watching SCREAM or todays horror movies, the music was creapy, but that was about it, the plot moved tooooo slow. It was a debate between 2 or 3 stars.
Rating: Summary: This is a REAL horror movie. Review: The cover of the box says it all,"He's not Freddy, He's not Jason, He's real."This movie is so realistic it's creepy. It's cast is small but the acting makes up for it ten fold. Michael Rooker plays a serial killer, along with his friend Otis played by Tom Towles, go on a killing spree. This movie will put a chill in your spine because this could really happen. Fans of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre would love this. Awsome!! Rent this today!!
Rating: Summary: A nightmare Review: This film was originally, correctly rated 'X'. (Today I think that has been changed to 'A'.) No one under the age of 17 should be allowed to see this. This is one nasty movie.
Rating: Summary: Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer:A Great film Review: The film Henry:portrait of a Serial Killer is one of the best movies I have ever viewed. It goes into the mind of a serial murderer. Very graphic and disturbing, it was originally rated X and was released in 1990,though it was originally completed in 1988. With good directing and great acting, this is a great film. Bill Robinson, Genius at work
