Rating: Summary: The movie that Scream wanted to be Review: This is the movie that started an entired catagory of movies...the slasher film. Without Halloween, the would be no Scream, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and all the other countless clones. And on the same not, without Psycho, there probably oulnd't have been a Haloween! For those of you who DON'T Like this movie, I will make a prediction. You are under the age of 25 (or perhaps older than 50), and/or you consider Scream a far better movie. It's a generation thing. The kids today see Scream as the Epitome of a "horror" movie, but us 30-40 somethings grew up with Halloween and The Exorcist. Go back and take a peek at 1960's Psycho. Now to me this is a long, borderline boring movie. But back in 1960 it was TERRIFYING just as Halloween was in 1978. Todays standards are very different...it is much more acceptable to see blood and gore and todays youth has been desensitized to it to the point where a movie like Halloween is boring. It's sad that young people can't see the forest, for the trees...this is truly a classic movie.
Rating: Summary: This orgional DVD release willnot play sound Review: The movie is a Halloween Classic, however only the video trailer would play sound. I tried 3 different copies on 2 different Sony 3000 Model DVD players and got the same resultes. Im hopefull and the new limited release has this corrected.
Rating: Summary: overrated bigtime Review: whats the big deal? its not a very good movie, in fact its pretty dang boring. there where way better horror films out when this came out. not scarey at all either. but ok, getting all the attention now days cause of those stupid scream movies. go see dawn of the dead or henry"potrait of a serial killer. or HEY, even better, go see TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, thats the movie that started it all, not this one! made on a even smaller really really small budget and is cool!
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTING, but still entertaining Review: Well, I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for this, but I just don't see what all the hype is about concerning Halloween. Yes, it is well crafted, and yes, for it's time it was scary. But it is also EXTREMELY slow and plodding, with countless shots of Mike just shambling around, stalking Jaime. Get to the point! It seems as if John Carpenter wanted to go for an atmosphere of dread and horror, but I believe that other movies (which were made either during or before that time) were better at it, like Suspiria and Night of the Living Dead. The film is too routinely paced and routinely directed to stand out in the viewer's mind, and really is nowhere as scary as its reputed to be. Give it a shot, but just don't be surprised if you aren't as blown away (or scared) as everyone said you would be.
Rating: Summary: best halloween ever(best movie of all time!) Review: The Halloween movie is the best horror movie I have ever seen ,John Carpenter did an excellent Job in making this movie, I would definetly recommend this movie to anyone who loves horror movies,I also think it is much better than Alfred Hithcocks Psyco.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant piece of suspense Review: "Halloween" is by far the best horror film I have ever seen and is also my personal favorite. The story is so simple: 6 year-old Michael Myers stabs his sister to death on October 31, 1963 in Haddonfield. He is locked up but 15 years later, he escapes and returns to his hometown, where he sets his sights on Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her friends, Annie (Nancy Loomis) and Lynda (P.J. Soles). His psychiatrist, Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence), is hot on Myers' trail before he kills again. This movie is so scary and suspensful, easily the best of the bunch. For Jamie Lee Curtis' first movie, she did an excellent job of acting. Veteran actor Donald Pleasence is also terrific, he is performance is convincing, you actually KNOW that Michael Myers is pure evil when he talks about him. What adds to the suspense and horror of the film is that Michael is hardly seen, he is always in the shadows, waiting to kill. The music is also fantastic. The main piano theme is one of the most famous to ever grace the screen. All in all, this is a terrific film, watch this with the lights off and guarantee you'll be scared!
Rating: Summary: Halloween set the standard for modern day slasher films. Review: John Carpenter's Halloween was the most successful independent horror movie of all time. The cast was absolutely perfect. Donald Pleasance was convincing as the paranoid Dr. Loomis, and Jamie Lee Curtis began her film career starring in this instant classic. Even though parts 4-6 were nothing more than tireless retreads of the Michael Meyers story, this a must see for any movie fan. The spine tingling theme music will forever be embedded in the minds of people who see this movie.
