Rating: Summary: Still workin' after 22 years Review: One of the things that pretty much every horror film can do, even the worst of the bunch, is keep your interest. But only a choice few, the list could only be around ten, can still keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you with a quickened heart rate and breathing hard after multiple viewings. "Halloween" is one of the true elite horror films. It stays on this list because of a few simple things that underlie in every scene in the film. First of all, and perhaps the most important, is John Carpenter's amazing musical score. It's probably one of the best ever made for a film, period. It catches all of the right notes and captures all of the terror in its simple 4-2 scale. Second on the list, just the feeling of being watched. We've all felt like this after watching this movie, no matter how many times we've seen it. Suddenly every noise is an intruder upstairs, and every shadow is the Boogeyman. But it's just a movie, right? Wrong. It's an experience. An exercise in the horror filmmaking craft that will be remembered as one of the best for decades to come. Third, that mask. It was only a Captain Kirk mask painted white, but man does it trip some switch in your mind that tells you, "I don't want to look at that thing, otherwise I'll have nightmares for weeks." This is why "Halloween" is timeless, and that's why I give it five stars.
Rating: Summary: The best horror movie EVER! Review: Halloween is without a doubt the most incredible horror movie around. Its originality is sure to never be seen again on screen. Stunning performances from Donald Pleasance and Jamie Lee Curtis really make this a great movie also. It has been around for 20 years, but it will NEVER be outdated or outranked by another horror movie. This is an excellent DVD compiled with many bonus features, including documentaries, still galleries, and the original theatrical trailer. True Halloween fans will enjoy it greatly! Don't I wish I could get the same feeling as the first time I watched it...but boy it comes close every time I watch it over again.
Rating: Summary: Always a favorite. Review: Halloween was the first horror movie I saw, around age 8. And since then it has remained a favorite movie of mine. Instead of the usual "Have sex, walk off, get slashed" formula that most horrors have, this movie works more on the element of suspense. You never really know where Michael Meyers is at times. And at other times, you see him coming, but the character doesn't and you find yourself yelling at the screen. That's the kind of horror movie I enjoy. The chilling music, courtesy of John Carpenter, basically holds together this movie. Without it, I don't think this movie would be regarded as such a classic. Michael Meyers' pale, expressionless mask adds even more to the vibe of the movie. The acting of Jamie Lee Curtis is very superb, and I don't think they could of cast a better actress for her roll. I really love this movie. Do not miss out on it.
Rating: Summary: Slasher. Review: This is probably the prototype slasher movie. It's slow moving, but somewhat atmospheric. It's a movie one should have seen, but it's not quite as good as it's reputation.
Rating: Summary: UGHHHHHH.............. Review: This movie was nice and scary but there are a few things that this halloween movie is MISSING: this movie has NO gore 2nd does not show michael myers and 3rd ITS BORING. I think halloween 2 4 5 6 and H20 was the best in the series but if u want nice gore and see micheal myers killing people in gory ways than watch the others in the series but stay away from this crap! and stay away from HALLOWEEN 3 that has NO micheal myers and NO gore again!
Rating: Summary: Was It The Boogeyman? Review: Note: Contains Spoilers. My dad rented this movie for and the minute I finished it I rented every seqeul I could get my hands on. I am now A full fledged Michael Myers Fan(no not Austin Powers although he's pretty cool.....) The story: a boy kills his sister and fifteen years later escapes the mental institution. Now he goes home and tries to kill his sister (Jamie Lee Curtis). Not gory but suspensefull. Rated R for nudity and violence.
Rating: Summary: Halloween Review: Halloween is by far the scariest movie ever made. I saw this movie in 1978 and had to sleep with the lights on for 2 weeks. Even today I cannot watch this movie at night. This is an atmosphere movie from the beginning to the end. The Halloween theme music by John Carpenter also adds to the creepy atmosphere. What a brilliant movie concept!!!
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece of horror. Review: At the very beginning of Halloween, A young child murders his older sister. And so begins the thrilling tale of "Halloween", a flat out horror classic and one of my personal favorite films. Many people consider this to be one of the greatest horror films ever made, and it deserves the distinction. The story tells the disturbing tale of Micheal Myers, who, at the tender age of eight, downed a clown outfit and killed his sister with a butcher knife. Years later, he returns to his birthplace and terrorizes three teens on the same night he killed his sister: Halloween. Mike Myers is scary with his pale mask and black outfit. The rarity of seeing his face adds a element of mystery to his character, which is what makes him so terrifying. Micheal displays no emotion and never speaks a word. He seems to mock his victims, playing dead and then jumping at them. He never seems to die, as the ending demonstrates. A merciless killer for a merciless horror film. "Halloween" is subtle in terms of blood and gore. We never see any gore or blood. Instead, Carpenter uses camera angles and such to hide the slash marks. It is, however, suggestivly brutal as demonstrated in scenes in which victims moan in pain as the knife makes contact with their flesh. The worst scene being when Micheal holds up one of his victims with nothing but his knife. While "Psycho" has wonderfully painful tension in its own right, "Halloween" is my preference. "Halloween" has tension equal to the famed shower scene, repeated over and over again in every scene involving an innocent teen and Micheal. During the film, I was wondering if I could bear the suspense. "Halloween" is perhaps the most suspenseful film I have ever seen. How fully appreciate that masterfully high level of suspense, however, one must dedicate themselves fully to Halloween. This is not the kind of film that one watches while doing something completely different, such as exercising or putting away the dishes. It requires your full attention. Both "Psycho" and "Halloween" have terrific musical scores. But the winner is, in my opinion, "Halloween". Upon watching the film and listening to the songs, our minds conjure up images of pain, choas, relentless evil, and chaotic terror. I know what your thinking, "That's great, but will I like it?". Well, I believe the terror spread by "Halloween" will be enjoyed universally, but I offer a opinion of one of my friends. He told me to never see "Halloween". To quote his words, "It gave me nightmares for four weeks! DO NOT SEE IT!". I did. I hope you do too.
Rating: Summary: HALLOWEEN Review: First there was Psycho, how ironic since Jamie Lee Curtis' mother was the female lead in that, then, there is this. Shot on location on a very limited time frame and budget, a classic is born. John Carpenter has created the ultimate in sheer terror. Things that go bump in the night really do and if you are not prepared for this you are....well, bumped off. Poor Laurie Strode is cursed from birth with her namesake and is the target in this horrific thriller. Her dear demented brother makes sure this season is to be her last. The camera shots of the slice of life make this even more terrifying as the stalker aimlessly kills anyone in his goal. Reputetdly shot in 10 days, this film has grossed over ten million dollars. The plot is simple, but the effect is horrifying. A mad killer is on the loose, we see through his eyes not only what he sees but what he senses, a very effective measure at best. The mask, it's said was one of William Shatner gone bad. The rest is histoury. Originally titled "The Babysitter Murders", this film has landmarked itself unto the hall of horror fame. Rightfully so, the camera angles are just right, the sense of terror is throughout the film, and the dark overall mood is perfect, even if we can forgive the license plates that bear California all over them and the late sunset...we are in Illinois you see. It is not wise to critique a classic, and for the sequels, let's just say no.
Rating: Summary: Happy Halloween fan here. Review: The one that started them all. This is truely a instant classic. The way Donald Pleasance gives those very eerie speeches. A not to mention the start of the lovely and talented actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Michael is always the best. (Was that the boogeyman?)
