Rating: Summary: Suspense Classic!!! Review: The modern era of the American horror film officially began in 1968 with the release of George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead, and Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby. These two films pushed the envelope with tales of zombies and satanic cults. Though there were zombie-like creatures and satanic cults in movies before 1968, Romero and Polanski redefined the monsters--thereby redefining the role of the hero and the victim--and situated horror in the everyday world of contemporary America. The 1970's again took horror to new heights with films such as William Friedkin's The Exorcist. In 1973, The Exorcist shocked audiences with images of gore and new special effects. When first released, the film created mass hysteria in theaters, with people fainting and paramedics on the scene. In the fall of 1978, a little horror film premiered in Kansas City. It didn't generate the buzz of The Exorcist, but it did really well and also opened in Chicago, later earning showings in New York. From there, it had a platform release all across the country, playing in different cities all over the world. Through word of mouth, the film became a hit. To this day, John Carpenter's "Halloween" remains a classic and is considered one of the best slasher films of all time. It started a trend in horror films that has been imitated to this day--the invincible stalker who preys on young women. The film was made on a shoestring budget and went on to become one of the most profitable films ever. Halloween, more than any other film in history, has been copied and duplicated, and even earned numerous catch phrases to describe itself: splatter film, slasher film, etc. It is not uncommon for horror films in recent years to have five or more sequels, most of which are poorly made remakes of the original that go straight to video(can we say Children of the Corn?), and the success of "Halloween" and its sequels helped set this trend. The film begins on a cold Halloween night in 1963, when six year old Michael Audrey Myers brutally murders his 17-year old sister, Judith Myers, in the tiny town of Haddonfield, Illinois. He is sentenced to Smith's Grove-Warren Country Sanitarium for committing the brutal crime. He remains locked within the hospital walls for 15 years, until, one fatal Halloween night in 1978, he escapes while being transferred to another hospital. Slowly and quietly, Michael makes his way to his hometown, where on Halloween night, havoc will ensue. No one is safe against the sinister force of his evil, especially not young Laurie Strode, played by a then 19-year old Jamie Lee Curtis in her first starring role, who is unfortunate enough to be spending the night baby-sitting.It is evident in the quality of the film that it still retains the ability to shock and frighten despite the fact that many of its plot devices have been numbed by a modern familiarity. "Halloween" is a bona-fide genre classic and masterpiece of tension, atmosphere and suspense. They certainly don't make horror films like this anymore...
Rating: Summary: Favorite halloween movie Review: This movie rocks!!!! At first Michael kills his sister Judith. Then Laurie starts getting freaked out because she sees a guy with a white mask on everywhere. I like this movie because it is very good and suspensful. The ending was the best part. For those of you who like to get scared I would recommend this movie and the fourth halloween movie. WATCH THIS MOVIE IN THE DARK ALONE. Rated R for violence, language, and sexual content.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: Now talk about scary, this is easily one of the scariest movies ever created. Not superior to The Exorcist, but still a shocking and gripping horror film. This has amazing atmosphere, amazing acting, and AMAZING MUSIC! This is better than Black Christmas and Psycho, but I think Texas Chainsaw Massacre has this one beat. Anyway if you're thinking about buying this, I suggest you do so immediately! WATCH IT ALONE IN THE DARK!
Rating: Summary: The Ultimate in Terror Review: I know everyone that is in to the horror genre has seen this movie. This movie, by far, is the most suspenseful and scary movie ever released. If you notice, while you're watching this movie, the abscence of blood, guts, and cheap tricks to keep you watching. John Carpenter does a great job of keeping you on the edge of you seat with background music and a story line that was new at the time of the picture. I know some horror fans think that the Friday The 13th Movie was the movie that started it all but that is nothing compaired to the actual fear and suspence that one will watching Halloween.
Rating: Summary: Not so bad Review: Before I saw Halloween, I though it was going to be a stupid dumb horror movie like childs play (no offense i just though they were funny). But when it started with that erie pumpkin I knew this was going to be scary. It all got really scary when Michael Myers started comming out of no where and looking at Lorie strode(Curtis). That was scary! And when Lorie and her friend are driving in the car and talk to the dad of the frind and find out that a mask and knives(WINK WINK) are stolen. After i saw this movie I was scared to the bone. But there were stupid things, like how does Michael know how to drive a car, and why did he pick up that dog when he killed it.
Rating: Summary: Halloween, A Horror Classic Review: I have seen many slasher movies in my time and Halloween is by far one of the best out of all of them. I would compare this movie to Psycho (1960) Which is another classic in horror. By my opinion from 1970-1990 was the best horror movie era. As if no one knows the storyline this movie takes place in Haddonfield,Illinois when a little boy name Michael Myers kills his sister on Halloween night. Almost over 20 years later Michael escapes from a mental asylum and returns to his home where it is being accompanied by Jamie Lee Curtis when Dr.Loomis played by Donald Pleasence attempts to kill Michael. In all this is a great film to watch in the dark. Its well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: So much potential... Review: Generally, I don't like slasher horror flicks. I like on-screen violence, therefore it does not scare me. However, I decided that I should probably at least rent the definitive slasher flick, which turned out to be better than I expected. I think the biggest problems occured in the second half of the movie, when Michael Myers actually kills people. I found little to be frightened of at that point. The beginning of the movie, on the other hand, was unbelievable. The scenes when Laurie finds Myers stalking her at every turn bring chills. As far as movies in this specific horror genre go, it is of course the best. However, I think that the director could have done much more with the movie if he could have kept the eerie random appearances of Myers as the main source of scares rather than the murders themselves.
Rating: Summary: This is genuine horror, the best you can find!!!!!!!!!! Review: Wow. Seriously, words cannot express what an excellent movie this is. Expecially since it was made by a bunch of amatues. This may come as a surprise to some of you, but HALLOWEEN is actually an independant film. And think about it. How many independant films have recieved 4 stars? Not many do, but this was one of them. The movie kicks off with a chilling beginning, where you first see a flickering jack-o-lantern with the opening credits occompanied by the most brilliant music I have ever heard a movie have. It is composed by John Carpenter himself, and it'll chill you to the bone! After the credits, you see someone approaching a house and then going inside, going into the kitchen, opening a drawer, taking out a huge butcher knife, and going upstairs, picking up a mask, putting it on, going into his sister's room and stabbing her to death. The boy, whose name is revealed soon after, Michael Myers, is now a mental patient in an institution and is only six years old. His doctor, Sam Loomis, (Donald Pleasence) tries his hardest to communicate with the child but after years of trying to reach him, comes to the horrifying realization that "What was living behind that boy's eyes was purely, and simply...evil." When Michael is 21 years old, on Halloween night, he excapes from the instition and returns to his hometown to continue the killing rampage he started as a child. There is much more to the story, but I don't want to give anything away. This is such a great movie and it is DEFINATELY worth the money, and that is a fact, not an opinion...
Rating: Summary: classic Review: this a good horror movie there is just some thing great and classic about this flim
Rating: Summary: The Night He Came Home! Review: Halloween Night, 1963 Six year old Michael Myers brutally murders his sister for no apparent reason. He is sent to a mental hospital for 15 years under the care of Dr. Loomis (Pleasance). Loomis knows that Myers is [a bad guy] and that he should be never set free! Myers escapes from the hospital, steals a car, and drives away. Flash over into Haddonfield on Halloween. Laurie Strode (Curtis) is seeing a man with a white mask everywhere. She doesn't know if she is dreaming or not. Back at the hospital, Loomis decides that Michael is back in Haddonfield! You will find out why he thinks this in Part 2. Loomis travels to Haddonfield before it is too late. That night, Laurie is watching Tommy Doyle (Brian Andrews) while her two friends are in the other houses either having [fun] or babysitting. Michael starts to off them one by one in a creepy sort of fashion. Then Laurie is the only one left and Michael plays a cat and mouse game with her! This movie is outstanding! The music is amazing! The atmosphere makes it feel like Halloween! The acting is good! This a must buy for horror buffs! Don't get the TV version! They say there is more footage in there! But it is truly a waste of money! Get the restored edition! Trust me! The features are pretty good too! I love this movie! You will to! RATED R for violence, disturbing images, brief nudity, and some language.
