Rating: Summary: scary Review: Scary. Focuses more on the scares than the violence/gore. Fun. Score: 98/100
Rating: Summary: Best slasher movie and one of the best horror movies ever. Review: Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Prom Night, Urban Legends, Jeepers Creepers, Scream, and every other knife-wielding maniac on the loose movie owes their existance to one movie - Halloween. And not surprisingly, this is the best out of all of them, as well as one of the scariest films ever made.In fact, I'd say that this film goes beyond being a mere movie. The acting, the simple yet gripping plot, the characters and music, the cinematography and the attention to detail...this movie is flawless. I daresay, this film is a work of bloody, scary art - and while it'll scare you, it's also one of those movies that'll make you think after you watch it. For this movie has what 99 percent of the other hack-n-slash movies lack - intelligence.
Rating: Summary: I`m not afraid of the dark........just whats in it! Review: My family had just gotten cable t.v. when I came across this gem and it frightened me to my very core.I am not ashamed to admit that as a child I was afraid of the dark - growing up in a haunted house might have had something to do with it but thats another story....lol - and this film captured everything I had ever feared and completely destroyed me on all levels. Haddonfield,Illinois in the early sixties,a 5 year old brutally murders his sister with a butcher knife.Sent to a mental hospital until his 21st birthday to face charges as an adult,he escapes and returns to Haddonfield...on October 31 - Halloween. Jamie Lee Curtis plays a young teen who becomes the target of the disturbed murderer.Donald Pleasance is his doctor frantically trying to find him...he knows what he is capable of and must stop him at any cost!!Now the stage is set for one of the best endings in horror film history....the blood is kept to a minimum and it`s whats implied - or not seen - that makes this movie so powerful.John Carpenter made his mark as a director to be reckoned with and elevated the genre to the next level, watch it with the lights out and the sound cranked up and take the trip...if it don`t make you jump at least once your probally dead already.Be afraid.......
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE BEST HORROR FILMS GET A COMPLETE MAKE-OVER ON DVD Review: Until very recently, John Carpenter's "Halloween" was the most successful independant film of all time and for very good reason. It is a viceral fright fest of B-flick slasher moments elevated to fine art by the shear intensity of its staging and the performances. Jamie Lee Curtis is Laurie Stroud, a baby-sitter who finds herself at the mercy of Michael Myers, the resident psycho, out to cut a few throats in the small town of Haddonfield. Also stars Donald Pleasance as Dr. Sam Loomis, the psychiatrist who is determined to have Michael perminantly put away. This two disc special edition from Anchor Bay is a revelation for fans. Disc one is the original theatrical cut while disc two represents the television version, including scenes that John Carpenter excised from the theatrical version. Both versions are presented in anamorphic widescreen and both have been remixed to a stirring 5.1 surround audio. There's also a great documentary that incorporates all sorts of interviews from the principle cast and production team, as well as theatrical trailers, television ads and a stills gallery. Anchor Bay has meticulously remastered this film from fine grain elements and given it a THX certification that for once, is worthy of the catch phrase, "for optimal video and audio" performance. Color fidelity is remarkable. Black levels are consistent and low. Contrast levels are superb. There is no hint of edge enhancement, aliasing, or any of the other digital problems that dogged the original DVD release. Really, this movie has never looked quite so good before, perhaps even in its initial roadshow engagement. Top marks all around. BOTTOM LINE: GET IT TODAY!
Rating: Summary: The greatest horror directer of all time Review: This is a masterpiece, it starts with the escape of Micheal Myers from a maximum security mental hospital and making his way back to his home town of Haddonfield. The film builds up with several very creepy sightings of Mr Myers and ends on Halloween night when Myers terrorizes a small group of friends including babysitter herroine Lorrie (Jamie Lee Curtis). The movie is helped tremendously by an excellent score, composed by Carpenter himself, it adds real excitment to the movie. This is a must for any horror movie fan.
Rating: Summary: What can I say that hasent already been said? Review: This movie is the greatest period. I love the dark atmosphere that surronds it and i love the original villian that John Carpenter(genius) and everybody else created. This movie, in fact is what inspired me to start making my own movies. Halloween def. deserves five stars and I hope that one day John Carpeneter will come back and wash away the [stuff] that they call Halloween 4-8 and make a new one!
Rating: Summary: Boogeyman strikes Review: This is an creepy yet cool movvie. The music is creepy by its self. This is the best slasher movie out.My favorite part is the beginniing when Micheal kills his sister. Then people(on halloween night about 10 years later)spend the night in there, where Micheal bruitally kills the sexually active teens.WHy do killers always go to the sluty people first?Laurie Strode(Jaimee Lee Curtis)is the main character, trying to run away from the clutches of the serial killer Micheal Myers.Micheal always hides in thew dark before he strikes, then the creepy music(which gets 2 stars for it)and slash slash his victim is dead. His massk deserves 2 stars.Literaly.Look at those pitch black eyes, and emotionless face.I reccomend this one and #2,and 5.5 is coll because this grandmas head gets chopped off and then put into the washer.
Rating: Summary: Classic horror movie Review: This used to be my favorite movie. I used to watch it, like, ten times a day. It's still great! Michael Myers is one creepy guy. I don't think this movie ever really scared me, but it's a great movie to watch on Halloween with friends.
Rating: Summary: The King of them All Review: When you think of horror, I imagine you try to envision some of the best and brightest of movies which epitomize this season. For me, it has to be the first Halloween movie. The mood, the actors, the music - Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence - the entire plot is so feasible to be just as scary. And it wasn't all that blood-spattered either, all though the subject matter is a bit above the kiddies. Test it out. It's better than a roller coaster ride, although the music might tip you off to what's just around the bend. And the ending...it'll blow your mind!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the Scariest Films of All Time Review: There are certain movies that one cannot shake after viewing them. There are reasons these movies stick with you for such a long time. For a horror movie, the reasons are usually simple: they disturbed you, they gave you nightmares, or they just scared the living **** out of you. John Carpenter's "Halloween" fits that discription almost perfectly. No, the movie won't disturb you because it's not that type of film. However, it will no doubt give you nightmares, and will give you the kind of paranoia that causes you to jump at your own shadow. This is mainly because of John Carpenter's excellent directing. In this low budget thriller, he doesn't rely on blood and guts to get the job done. The tools he uses are suspense, fear, and paranoia. He keeps the boogeyman Michael Myers, the first and ultimate slasher, in the shadows throughout the entire film. He is always in the background, always watching and waiting, until he finally decides to strike. And when he does it is big, loud, and scary as hell. The film is riddled with this kind of suspense from the horrifying beginning, to the equally terrifying finale.
