Rating: Summary: THEY SURE DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USED TO Review: Firstoff Halloween(1978)is my favorite example of showing you can make a top notch hit with a low budget...)without the hollywood [movies] they tend to make now for 10 million a film. Halloween is John Carpenter's masterpiece that is about a highly mental and troubled boy(Michael Myers)who completely loses it on Halloween night and kills his sister Judith Myers, keep in mind this when Michael is a child 8 years of age. Later is taken away from custody of his family and placed in a top-notch pyshcahitric ward. Next after waiting for 20 years of not talking, barely eating, and sitting in a corner of silence. He plans to come home on Halloween. Well most of you have seen the classic,I won't ruin it for the rest. BOTTOM LINE,A HIGH QUALITY WITH THX SUPERIOR SOUND AND PICTURE QUALITY,AWESOME EXTRAS(CAST/BIOS,TRAILERS/TV SPOTS,HALLOWEEN THEME TO LISTEN TO,AND MANY MORE,AWESOME CAST(JAMIE LEE CURTIS(TRUE LIES,A FISH CALLED WANDA)DONALD PLEASENCE(PRINCE OF DARKNESS)AND GREAT FILM WRITER/PRODUCER JOHN CARPENTER(THE THING),...P.S THEY WOULD BE NONE OF THE [copies] THEY CALL SCARY TODAY(SCREAM,I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST,SIXTH SENSE,BLAIR WITCH,THE RING,BLOODY MURDER)IF IT WEREN'T FOR HALLOWEEN,(BETTER TO STICK TO CULT CLASSICS NOT THE TEENYBOOPER [stuff] IN THE 9O'S AND BEYOND YEARS)
Rating: Summary: The ultimate in horror movies Review: Well here it is John Carpenters masterpiece, Halloween. I am a huge fan of John Carpenters movies, The Fog, Escape From New York, The Thing, etc. but this movie tops it all because of its low budgetness which makes it really scary, if you are a fan of horror movies this is a must have.
Rating: Summary: FREAKY! Review: "Halloween" accomplished a few great things-1. It payed homage to Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece "Pyscho" 2. It was probably a box-office hit 3. It had some effective acting 4. It was incredibly scary 5. The score sets a perfect essence of murder and eerie scares on Halloween night. 6. There isn't a gratuitous amount of blood (not much blood at all, if I recall correctly). These are all marvelous qualities in a film. Those are some reasons I'm tempted to give this film 4 stars. But, there are some problems that make the movie less intelligent and therefore less enjoyable. One problem I had with the film was there were too many questions unanswered. For example, why does Myers wear a mask? Is it to hide some kind of hideous scar on his face? Is it because he felt he was never loved because he was unattractive? There is also no psychological reason why he killed his sister. And, the film doesn't tell us why he is so insane, what makes him tick? Why does he go on a murderous rampage on Halloween night? Why does he pick Janet Leigh's daughter to stalk? Is it because she's beautiful? Does he think he likes her? I like films where the villain is numerously almost killed, but he somehow keeps coming back for more, summoning almost superhuman strength. It's a nice touch to a horror film, but the shocks just weren't shocking enough in this film. Myers is stabbed so many times, but he keeps living. It's so predictable. If you even think Myers compares to other movie psychos like Norman Bates or Jack Torrance ("The Shining") or Annie Wilkes ("Misery") or Max Cady ("Cape Fear") or Hannibal Lecter, then you're, in my opinion, mistaken. That's just my own personal opinion though. Myers is just a crazy guy with a mask, nothing more. Because there is no real psychological detail about this madman, we can never understand why he is the way he is, what is going through his mind as he kills. All in all, a good horror film that delivers nightmarishly scary material, but in a flawed way.
Rating: Summary: Classic Review: John Carpenter's Halloween tells the story of an escaped mental patient Michael Myers(Nick Castle)Michael was locked up for 15 years after he killed his sister. Dr.Loomis(Donald Pleasence) is on a frantic search for michael, Loomis knows Michael will return home to kill. Laurie Strode(Jamie Lee Curtis) a shy teenager is being stalked unknowingly by Michael. As the night goes on Michael kills her friends till it comes down to Laurie and Michael. The Screenplay was done by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. Great script one of the best of the genre. And John Carpenter directing was top notch. He creates the perfect mood and will make you feel trapped just like the characters. Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee were awesome in their roles. And the score by John Carpenter was very chilling The Halloween DVD is loaded with must see extras

Rating: Summary: HALLOWEEN,THE RISE OF MICHAEL MYERS Review: this movie will give you nightmares , it did to me . as i am from england we do not take halloween as seriously as some folk, but it did,nt stop me enjoying this film. i remember as a naive 11 year old sitting watching it with my parents,to say the least i was scared .... first of all you've got john carpenter's brilliant music score, then you've got MICHAEL MYERS + that mask, great ingredients for a horror movie. the added scenes on the DVD bring together some of the missing links in the story(sam loomis in the medical hearing + michael's room with sister written on the door). but my only complaint is why did it take 5 sequels before we found out the real reason for MICHAEL's malevolant rampage?. if you purchase this DVD i would suggest you get the whole set. i recently purchased HALLOWEEN 6 THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS from amazon.com as it is not availiable at any stores in my country, also as we speak i am the proud owner of a copy of ...... HALLOWEEN RESURECTION which is not released in the U.K as yet. so thanks amazon.com,and customers if you are in any doubt about this movie, take it from me YOU'LL LOVE IT,YOU'LL LOVE THEM ALL. Rating: Summary: The Scariest of Them All!!!!! Review: "Halloween" is by far the scariest movie out there hands down! It doesn't matter how many times I've watched this film, Michael Myers still gives me chills! The movie centers around Laurie Strode, a teenager, and her friends who are babysitting on Halloween night. Soon the news gets out that Michael Myers, the infamous child who killed his parents 16 years prior, has escaped from his mental hospital and is on the loose. Little does Laurie know that Michael is hunting her. Donald Pleasence plays the role of Michael's former doctor, Dr. Loomis perfectly, and Jamie Lee Curtis did a wonderful job of playing the virginal Laurie in her first major feature role. This is definitely a movie to watch with the lights on and with another person sitting there next to you, but "Halloween" is one of the best horror films ever made. I highly recommend this horror classic!!!!
Rating: Summary: THE SCARIEST INDEPENDENT FILM EVER MADE Review: Halloween opened in the fall of 1978 and scared the wits out of moviegoers and rave reviews out of films critics, who quickly declared it a new horror classic. A fright film hadn't made such an impact since 1960's "Psycho"(which starred Jaime Lee Curtis' mother Janet Leigh) It went on to become, up until "The Blair Witch Project," the highest-grossing independent feature ever made. I think that the films lack of blood was offset by one of it's most terrifying features: John Carpenter's brilliantly menacing score. The music in this film is phenominal, both in it's originality and ability to get you to react. To see what I'm talking about, try watching the movie with the sound off. You'll see that it makes a big difference. Another one of it's distinguishing features is Micheal Myers'-or as they referred to him in the credits "the shape"- mask. One thing that not very many people know about the mask is that it was close to having a totally different look. There were two masks to choose from, since it was a low budget movie. Thr first was an Emmit Kelly Clown mask and Nick Castle, the original Micheal, came out of the bathroom wearing it and everyone agreed it was pretty scary and it made you uncomfortable. Then he came out with the second mask which was a William Shatner Captain Kurk mask from Star Trek that they had painted white opened the eye sockets and teased the hair a bit and...a cold chill ran down all the crew's spiines, it was so demented and so sick that when the film was released in theaters the expressionless features of Micheal Myers shocked everyone and that truly is what stays with you it's the mask. When you go home after watching a Halloween movie you're still thinking about his face and almost expecting him to po out from under the bed while you're sleeping. Thats the difference between slasher films and horror films: slasher films focus more on the gore and the guts, which is not that scary, and horror films focus more on you're fears and than deal within them and bring them to life I HIGHLY recommend this movie to any Horror flick fan and say to you, turn off the lights, turn up the sound, and get ready to have the hell shocked out of you!
