Summary: This movie is terrible
Review: I was really disappointed with this DVD. The visual special effects are definitely dated. The sound effects were good, but not enough to make this movie worth the time spent watching it.

I can not recommend this movie.

Summary: Great Effects!
Review: Spawn is based on the popular comic book and to tell you the truth, the plot of the movie doesn't really make sense. Otherwise, if you're not looking for a plot and just some eye candy, Spawn is for you. The DVD is only available in the rated R director's cut version (which I don't think should be rated R anyway). The atmosphere is dark, the effects are eyepopping, and you won't care much about a plot with effects and humor in the movie.

Summary: See only the R-Rated Version.
Review: in 1997, me and my mom saw this in the theaters and we both liked it. i've always been fascinated with both TV Show and Comic Books ( a Spawn Fanatic). the story deals with Al Simmonds ( Michael Jai White) who gets murdered by his scum bag boss " Jason Wynn" ( Martin Sheen) and is sent to hell, makes a deal with the evil lord of Darkness " Malbolgia" and becomes a Shapeshifting avenger named " Spawn" so that he can see his wife again. The DVD Director's cut is the only one worth watching instead of the lousy PG-13 Version that they had dumbed down, i know that The Clown ( John Leguizomo) can be annoying but you can just forgive that and just see this movie with a different if interesting twist to the superhero stuff and some spectacular visual effects.

Summary: A Decent Movie
Review: A simple plot and lots of special effects. The movie could have been better. The story is a bit boring and fake but will keep you entertained. The movie lacks the abilities of Spawn. It should have shown more about him and his costume, and it would have been better with his mask on more often instead of that burnt face. It will keep you entertained but, you will probaly not want to see it again.

Summary: Made in Hell
Review: The first time I saw this movie...I didn't like it. I was a big fan of spawn the comic and the HBO series but the movie did nothing for me. After I bought the dvd (out of loyalty to spawn)I listened to the director's commentary...then I hated the movie. Listening to Mark Dippe, the director, was liking putting a face to incompetence. Not only was this the most boring action movie in history it was the most claustrophobic. not two seconds go by before we see another close-up. It's annoying that the director never gets an actors whole head in one of his million close ups. It's like Dippe has no idea about framing. Some holes in the plot that bother me in retrospect are 1. the motorcycle scene: why in the hell would someone who could fly ride a motorcycle. 2. Wynn storming wanda's house: From what I can piece together the CIA is composed of Al Simmons, Priest, Wynn, and Terry Fitzgerald. He kills Al, Al kills Priest, and Wynn alienates Terry, so the director of the CIA has to do his own dirty work. Seems like he should of cut back on the HEAT project and hired more than three people. Just a thought.

Summary: I feel shame
Review: This COULD have been a decent movie. The Story barely tells you about the charector Spawn and Al Sommions <SuperMan did it the best, and BatMan did it good to>, Costume ......<not as bad as the ones in Batman and Robin, but the siut just dont dont fit right> Story was bad to <for some reason I just felt bored with it>, The Only thing i liked was Clown and the Cape that was all.

Summary: Special Effects!!
Review: This movie has great special effects. The story line is so, so. But let's face it; you don't watch a movie like this for the plot. It is a dark and estorical film that holds some suspense, and a few surprises. I have seen movies of this sort many times before, but this is defintely one of the better "comic book come to life" movies I've seen.

Summary: sad...
Review: This flick made me angry and sad but also made my eyes pop at the same time. First off, the film scratches the surface of what the comic book of Spawn is all about. A thin plotline and even thinner characters almost ruined it. But then again the visuals remain among the best I've ever seen. To make a long review short, this is a classic case of style over substance.

Summary: A rentable third rater
Review: The only thing worse than the odious characters is the tenuous plot...no wait, there's the anemic dialogue...no, the leaden performances, no, actually it's the heavy reliance on the special effects. (Plot? What plot?) Leguizamo's clown is over the top, while Spawn's juvenile emotional state is irritating at best. Everyone trapped in this celluloid hell, in particular Sheen, is undoubtedly better than the material, but oh, what dreadful material. Rent this from the library, and for goodness sakes, don't let your children watch this thing. Leguizamo's character's crude one liners are not for the young, nor are the heavy doses of special effects (Satan is simply nightmarish). Liked the cape...dissatisfied with the film.

Summary: As bad as it gets
Review: Damn, and I thought Blade was a terrible film! Well, Spawn is about as bad as it gets. The story is prodding to the point of being BORING. The acting is weak, and even the digital FX are un-inspired. Sorry Mr. McFarlane, but nothing can save this hopless excuse for a film.
