Summary: A Face only a Mother Could Love....
Review: A visual and audio tirade of chainsaws ripping through flesh and braless 70's college students on a road trip from Hell....A true classic in every sense of the word. The horror genre is truly blessed to have seen the creation of such a film; highly reccomended if you're into abstract sculpture and family cannibalism. I know I am!

Review: Rare are the horror movies which deserve to stay in Movie History. THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is one of them.Tobe Hooper's masterpiece, 25 years after its first release, electrifies you again with this DVD presentation. Almost presented as a documentary, TCM shocks you in such a way that you won't be able to watch other horror movies without having this movie in mind. THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE has become a reference and Tobe Hooper will never produce again a film with such impact. Bonus features are great and the image and sound quality terrific. A DVD for you and for your dentist.

Summary: Georgeous, georgeous piece of filmmaking!
Review: " The film in which you are about to see is an account of the tragedy..." These words are a thing of beauty. Even though the opening narration tells us that the teens are doomed, we don't care- we're still excited and anxious to see what's next. That's Hooper's effect, trying to sell us on this being a true story (even though it's similarities to the Ed gein case are far and far between.) The most enthralling aspect about this film is that it does one thing EXTREMELY well, it's atmosphere. The low quality film is so grainy and so lifelike that we the viewer don't feel like we're apart of another movie, but yet an actual event. Also, what sets this film apart from almost every other horror movie (maybe with the exception of Deliverance) is it's genuine, authentic characterization. Men like the hitchiker (Edwin Neal) and the cook (Jim Siedow) are so frightfully weird that Hollywood could NEVER produce anything as unpolished as these guys. Yes, the title is exploitatious but also necessary. Do you honestly think people were going to give a film they'd never heard of with a small budget a try by any other name? Heck no! This was the film's catch, it's ways to bring people into the theatres. After 26 years, this film is still unmatched in horror. Every odd number of years we get a groundbreaking work in horror (Psycho 1960, Texas Chainsaw 1974, Halloween 1978 and Blair Witch 1999). Of the bunch listed ahead (and an elite bunch it is), I would take TCM anyday, just for it's flawless script and simple plotline. It's not overlong and there is no extra b.s. Tobe made his statement in under an hour and half : and his statement was that disgusting, evil and awful things can happen to anyone, no matter who you are. Happy viewing.

Review: When this movie came out in the 70's I was only eight years old. I remember the terror that blasted the drive-in screen. The one scene i'll never forget was, the fat man in the wheelchair. You can't get far in a wheelchair being chased by a killer on two feet with a chainsaw deep in the thick woods! Brutal, and bizzare are all i have to say!

Summary: DVD is well worth a look
Review: I've been a horror fan for a long time, and it's alwaysbaffling to admit that many of the best horror movies were made wayback in the early 1970s (i.e. they ain't getting any better). The Exorcist and TCM are coming to mind, here. What blew me away after seeing the DVD was how stunningly beautiful the new print is. The colors are vivid (even the blackness) and occasionally give the viewer the impression that this is a much newer film. Hearing Hooper, Daniel Pearl & Gunnar Hansen interact during the commentary audio was quite illuminating. They may not answer every question or cover every shot with absolute detail, but what they give us is more than enough. New, exciting features aside (though why the short documentary: "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Family Portrait" was not included in the package, I don't know), what truly is the coolest thing is how the movie itself has held up over time. It is as frightening and spine tingling as any movie I have ever seen and DVD technology brings out the best in the film. A must own for any fan of the genre.

Summary: Genuinely terrifying!
Review: Some friends and I rented this as a "cheesy movie of the night" selection. What a mistake! TCM is absolutely one of the most horrifying movies I have ever seen. I'm a big horror fan, and like to think of myself as a tough scare. TCM left me feeling VERY uncomfortable and genuinely terrified, something that no horror film has lived up to since. Admirably, it manages to envoke feelings of fear and terror without going overboard with gore; the film is not for gore-hounds. The closing shot of Leatherface spinning madly in the middle of the road, twirling his saw above his head, gives a sense of hopelessness, really, that what you have just seen will never be resolved. A wonderful production by Hooper...why he made a sequel is beyond me. Hollywood tends to destroy original masterpieces with trite sequels ala Psycho and The Birds. But TCM is a true masterpiece, one that will not be forgotten soonafter by anyone who views it.

Summary: ol' grandpa's the best.....it won't hurt a bit!
Review: Before horror filmmakers felt the need to poke fun atthemselves and highlight beautiful young stars rather than actualterror, this film does what horror films have long since forgotten how to do: scare the living hell out of you. Before there was a Blair Witch Project, there was a Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And similarities between the two are fairly numerous: the documentary style (although Witch went a lot further with this concept), the shunning of explicit gore in order to overdrive the imagination, and so forth. One of the things I particularly like about this film is that it's almost two movies in one. The first half focuses on the victims, which is something this film's sequels forgot to do. If you want to effectively scare people, you have to allow them to muster sympathy for those about to die.him die.)But once Leatherface comes roaring out of the woods with his weapon of choice (actually, despite the title only one person in this film is killed by a chainsaw) the film takes a sharp turn and drags us kicking and screaming into the world of the villains. This is where the film's strength lies: in the fact that the family isn't actually all together until the last twenty minutes or so. Therefore we haven't been given ample time to identify with them or laugh at them, and so we are just as mortified at the dinner scene as poor Sally Hardesty. Truly one of the greatest horror films ever created. However as far as the sequels go, here's a brief rundown: TCM2 is worthwhile for two reasons only; Tom Savini's gut-wrenching effects and the almost-unbearably over the top performance of Dennis Hopper ("TEAR IT ALL DOWN! "). If you can find an uncut version of TCM3 I'd say give it a shot. Otherwise don't bother (unless you'd like to see an early performance from Psycho's Viggo Mortensen). And I urge everyone on the planet to avoid Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation at all costs. There is nothing even remotely worthwhile about this film and will leave you nauseous for the rest of your life.

Review: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - whoa - this is, without a doubt, the most terrifying and utmost disturbing film in the history of Cinema. I don't understand why people don't like it (granted it is sick) - but I read a review by someone who said they had to run to the bathroom to hurl everytime he saw someones leg get chopped off and blood splatter everywhere - I have one thing to say: This person HAS NOT seen the movie - no body parts are chopped off and there is very, very little blood, so pay NO attention to that review. The film is realistic and based on a true story, which makes it even more scary. The features on the DVD are excellent, as is the film. Everyone should purchase this film if they are a true horror fan - but this film is not for the weak or faint hearted. Texas Chainsaw Massacre will live on forever

Review: This DVD is great! I love the features, its the first DVD I've seen where the features are actually Interactive. If you even like this movie, you will adore this DVD, its a must must MUST have! The picture is 100x's better than the VHS and the sound and commentary choices are wonderful!

"this movie was not scary,it was funny! for the whole last half hour all it was,was this bigbreasted girl going "ahhhhh! god,no! help me! ahhhhhhhh! "and the guy with the chainsaw going "argharhgarhgarhgarhgarhg! "and yelling like a retard.it cracked me up.then at the end it was just about these crazy people beating up that girl for no reason.and that chainsaw was lasting forever.it would have run out of power after going that long!
