Summary: A Genuine Travesty
Review: Gus Van Sant's shot-for-shot word-for-word remake of the master's great film is perhaps the greatest travesty visited on a classic film since they colorized "Casablanca". It is a tribute to Mr. Hitchcock's genius that this version is so slow-moving and quite frankly boring. Anne Heche's performance is awful; when she's driving off with the 400 grand you want to slap that stupid smirk off her face. Vince Vaughn is simply too cool to play the Norman Bates role. This Psycho is even worse than that "Bates Motel" TV movie from a few years back. Someone should revoke Van Sant's directing license after this and 1994's "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues."

Summary: Same Plot, Same Story, Different Era
Review: When I went to see this movie, it had already been "blasted" by the critics. So I had a "bone to pick" with Director Gus Van Sant. But as I sat and watched this movie, I found that it had that same sense of fright and suspence as the original. While it is not to be compared WITH the original, it did work for me. I enjoyed the performances all though I felt that "the Norman Bates Character's" presence was a little intimidating (compared with little ol' Anthony Perkins). The feel is great and I disagree with the critics; it was OK for Van Sant to remake a classic>

Summary: Sorry, to whoever thought this movie was good...
Review: Sorry, but this movie really blew the big one. It was alright at first, but then it started getting stupid...like the when Norman Bates starts whacking off...who cares? i sure didn't need to know that. Well, the only thing i though was good in the movie was the music. Danny Elfman really did an excellent job in remaking the music, i don't see how he could have done it better, he is the man at freakness music.

Summary: I loved it!
Review: I loved the remake. It was just as good as the original, and I loved the original. It was just as artistic and lyrical as the original. There were a few added touches that just made the movie even better. Anne Heche and Vince Vaughan both lived up to the acting of Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins. I loved it!

Summary: Gus Van Sant shows more Ed Woodism than Hitchcockism!
Review: How can anyone possibly say that this version has better acting than the original!!! Obviously they know near nothing about acting! I'm sorry but Vince Vaughn does not make a better Norman Bates than Anthony Perkins. Anthony Perkins IS Norman Bates! And just because a movie is in color and it is gory does not make it scary! Of course there is nothing wrong with remaking Psycho for today's generation but they could have done a much MUCH better job. I've taken only one year of theatre and I truly believe I could have done a better directing job.

Summary: its ok, but trust me WAIT!!!
Review: i saw this movie in the theaters, and i was kinda disopointed about it, i loved the originol, and i was expecting a hole lot more, some of the scenes were so unnecesary, like norman masturbating, who wants to see that, and flashing rolling cloasd and bulls during the shower scene was so stupid!! it took it all away, and the music does not play till after sh turns around to see him/her theit witha knife, it doesnt play when he pulls the curtin back. although it was good, i give it 2 stars becuase it is only ok, i would not eve buy it for this much, i will wait till it drops to about 30$ becuase you can buy the originol wich is much better for about $9.99, and its better!!! so please trust me, and WAIT!!!

Summary: Greed and Plagiarism: A foul insult to a Great Master
Review: To anyone considering the purchase of the "new and improved" Psycho, please disregard the impulse to have anything to do with this movie. This movie trashes the memory of the great master director, Alfred Hitchcock. When I first learned that Universal would even consider a "new and improved" version of Psycho, I e-mailed several venomous messages to the movie executives...alas to no avail! Please...BOYCOTT this movie! Teach the clowns at Universal that they cannot trash the visionary work of Alfred Hitchcock. Universal could have made a fortune if they had any intelligence by re-releasing Hitchcock's "Psycho" to theaters, and incorporating the latest sound techniques (THX) and cleaning the original prints. If you really want to see "Psycho", rent, buy or go see Hitchcock's masterpiece in B/W. So, just how bad in Van Sant's "Psycho"? Van Sant was nominated and WON the Worst Director Award in 1998 for "Psycho" by the Golden Raspberry Awards. Hitchcock's "Psycho" was placed on the top 100 movies of the 20th Century. Come on, it doesn't take a rocket scientist, or even a psycho for that matter, to figure this one out! The one * that I awarded this movie is very charitable, as I cannot go any lower than that! "New and improved" Psycho is just like "new and improved" Coca-Cola...some things just cannot be improved. Any attempts to improve upon perfection are based upon greed and arrogance.

Summary: eh... so-so
Review: The cast is strong. I loved the fact that Gus Van Sant got to do the opening sequence like Hitchcock had wanted. The technology was insufficient at the time, so he had to settle for a slightly different opening. Also, there were a few things left in that would have been nixed by the censors years ago - Norman's vouyeurism has a different slant.

The reason I only gave this 3 stars was mainly because of the awkward script updates. There is one line about a Walkman that was so stilted and out-of-place, it made me cringe. Trust me, as soon as you hear it, you'll say, "Oh, THAT is the line she meant!" It glares out from the rest of the dialog.

Still, I am glad I got to see this one on the big screen, in all its luminous glory. I will definitely buy this one, but I'll wait until the price goes down.

Summary: Unscary, Good Movie
Review: This movie is not scary at all. I excepted a lot more from a remake of a horror classic, which I withheld myself from seeing so that I can enjoy the remake as a newbie. I never really found the movie to be slow but there was never a scare. The performances are great. Vaughn, Heche, Macy and Moore all give great performances. This is still a good movie but it suffered from a bit too much hype.
