Rating: Summary: The Ending and Transition to Part 9...SPOILER ALERT Review: Actually, the song at the beginning is "The Darkest Side Of The Night" by Peter Fredette. And at first I too thought that Jason Goes to Hell seemed to ignore this movie (which is my personal favorite of the series), but consider this...Rennie from part 8 occasionally hallucinates, so when she saw Jason in the sewer as he was in the end, that was not really him. He most likely was carried out to sea, alive, and went back to Crystal Lake from there. We see his scalded mask, which he takes with him and which we see him wearing in the beginning of part 9. Therefore, part 9 would reasonably pick up after 8. This is only a theory, and I think it was mentioned before, but I hope it helps.
Rating: Summary: the worst of the series Review: Being a big fan of the series I was shocked to see how this movie played out. What you have here is probably the worst movie ever made. The acting is terrible, most of the movie takes place on a ship instead of New York, and the writers of the next movie in the series (jason goes to hell) don't acknowledge this movie's existence. I watched this in the theatres and I knew we were in for a long one cause there was about 300 seats and only five people showed up. I'm not going to elaborate too much, just do yourself a favor and steer clear.
Rating: Summary: The Song At The Beginning... Review: This is a great Jason film, by far my favorite...here's hoping Jason X will be decent. For those wondering, the title of the opening song is "The Darkest Side Of The Night". I know that is the title, and I THINK the band name is Metropolis. I found the song on Napster, so good luck!
Rating: Summary: A Good Entry! Review: I don't understand why people dislike this so much. Sure, it's not very gory, but ut's still great. Kane Hodder brings Jason to a whole new level, and make this movie - together with pt. 7 - the meanest looking Jason ever. The one problem however, is that this movie lacks gore! Yeah, some cool killings, but not more. This time Jason rises to his grave to kill some more teenagers. Now on a boat to New York. The movie was actually meant to be gory, but the MPAA cut out most of it. There is a website called "Arrow In The Head" where you can read everything the MPAA cut out of the movies.
Rating: Summary: FINALLY JASON has Come back to New York Review: Now heres a classic example on what to do with a slasher film. You keep all the elements that made him cool and scary, then you send him to the biggest and baddest city on the earth, New York City. Add to that a hilarious boxing scene and baam you got gold. Lets be honest , anyone picking this movie off the racks , to buy or to rent, isnt looking for MARY POPPINS , they are looking for a masked undead maniac running around with a variety of sharp objects and doing away, in imaginative ways, with nubile and beautiful teenagers. Throw in a cruise ship, a hockey mask , and some popcorn and u got yourself a fun ride. One of the last true slasher fims, brings back all the charm of growing up during the eighties as a horror fan
Rating: Summary: THIS MOVIE WAS THAT DAMN GOOD! Review: THIS MOVIE WAS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE SERIES! VERY FUN! GOOD STORY FULL OF HUMOR AND A GOOD AMOUNT OF GORE! DEFINITELY SEE THIS!
Rating: Summary: should've appropriately ended it here Review: it should've ended here for a few obvious reasons. it was the last year of the 1980s and that was the decade for friday the 13th movies. this one was the best one of all the jason movies and there was no reason to continue the series after this one. they should've spent more time in the new york setting but it is still a good flick when compared to the other jason movies and is the darkest one of them all.
Rating: Summary: THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE FRIDAY THE 13TH SERIES! Review: ok..i think jason takes mannhatan was with out a doubt one of the best..the plot is great, and its basicly very differnt from the rest.however the thing i dont like about this movie is that it all of it didnt take place in new york.but its still a good movie.now the other thing that really gets to me is what happend after J.T.M was that he came back..origanly this was supposed to be the last in the series but nooooo the dumb producers wanted to keep going ...
Rating: Summary: Very silly. But the scenes in NYC are the best! Review: Jason awakes at Crystal Lake and jumps aboard a hip bound for NYC! When i saw this i thought it would be good because it would take place in New York. But it turns out only about 20 or so minutes are in NYC. Most of the film is on the NYC bound ship. Not very good and it has the cheesy 80s touch. But some good scenes. I like the song at the begining!
Rating: Summary: A silly but decent chapter of the series Review: Warning-the following review contains some big plot spoilers,so read carefully!Part 8 isn't as bad as people say. It's a very silly but watchable entry of the series. It's quite entertaining and has some good moments.Kane Hodder gives off an excellent performance as Jason and is definitely the best.He also proved this in Part 7.Mark Richman is a great actor as Charles McCulluh and is one oof the best F13th actors to date.Although the film is easily the least goriest of the series, there are some pretty good kills. The scene where the boxer was dispatched with the sauna rock was pretty cool and when Mark Richman's character is drowned in the acid was hilarious. And when Jason punches the boxers head off,man that was funny! However, the film has some big flaws. The main problem is the title.Jason only takes Manhattan for the last 15 minutes of the film. The rest he's on a cruise ship. The way Jason was resurected was imaginative, but poorly done. One of the biggest problems is the incredibly lousy ending.Jason is washed away by acid, but 2 minutes later or so,he turns into a little boy! VERY dumb and unsensible. And the film was more of a comedy than a horror.Judging from the poster you'd think that this is the scariest movie ever made.WRONG! The scene where the Wayne guy calls himself an A$$hole had me laughing a gut.Or what about the second death? Too funny! Jason was holding a HUGE spear over this dumb girl who kept screaming endlessy "no no no no".I was laughing so hard I barely paid any attention to the scene. But the funniest scene is arguably when he's in New York.Nobody AT ALL blinks as a rotting corpse wearing a hockey mask strolls through Manhattan. A big joke.Still, this is a pretty dang decent entry in the series. No scares or gore whatsoever but pretty entertaining. One last note-at all costs mute the TV at the beginning and ending. The rock song "Darkest Side Of The Night" is awful and is one of the biggest flaws of the film.Rated R for very little violence, mild language, drug use, brief nudity and a rape scene.
