Rating: Summary: Unique and Intelligent - Pinhead meets "Seven" Review: Yep, Hellraiser 5 - the direct-to-video sequel is splitting fans right down the middle. Most horror fan boys are disappointed because Pinhead only appears for about 2 minutes total. Others complain because there's not enough effects or gore. Well, all I have to say is Thank God this series looks like it will not go the way of such juvenile series as "Elm Street" or "Phantasm". I mean do we really want this series to go the way of Freddy Krueger with Pinhead cracking one-liners every 5 minutes? If you do, then stay away from this movie. What we have here is a stylish police-thriller (seemingly inspired by David Fincher's "SE7EN") about a corrupt cop whose life becomes haunted by horrific images, the cenobytes and violent murders which start after he opens up the lament box. It's slow and methodical, but always retains intelligence and never sinks to the level of the usual cheap horror cliches. There is no group of teenagers being killed off one-by-one, there are very few on-screen killings, there is no big pay-off or effects-laden finale...if that's what you want go rent any one of a thousand cheesy videos at Blockbuster. Instead, this movie offers a solid thriller using the "Hellraiser" mythos as a backdrop. There are quite a few very creepy moments as well and the cenobytes appear throughout in very effective sequences. I was thankful Pinhead was kept to a minimum....once again, do we really want him to become another Freddy Krueger??? There's nothing I can say to change people's minds about this sequel. Love it or hate it. I was just very surprised that the producers have decided to go the high route with the series instead of making something like "Pinhead Strikes Back". I think Clive Barker would approve of this sequel as well, even though he had nothing to do with it. I now look forward to further installments in this series which is something I had given up on after the first three mediocre sequels.
Rating: Summary: Good idea, bad movie Review: I just rented Hellraiser 5 last night and it isn't the worst Hellraiser (#3), but it is no where close to the excellence of 1 & 2. It tries to almost follow the comic book series of Hellraiser (if anyone besides me collected any of them.) The comics dealt with the box as the gateway to hell and had many different Cenobites, not always Pinhead. The movie deals with a crooked cop who stumbles upon the box and releases his own version of hell. Being direct to video, the actors are second rate and the story very predictable. As others have stated, it's more of a mystery story than horror film and the story unfortunately is very easy to figure out. Anyone wanting a Pinhead movie should avoid it, the other cenobites lack creativity (such as the multitude of them in 2.) It's not a scary movie, and it just seems to plod along to the easy to guess finish. The director had a good idea, but a general lack of execution keeps it from being really good. I wanted to like it, but it's mediocre material at best.

Rating: Summary: What are the other reviewers complaining about? Review: I couldn't understand why some of the reviewers didn't like this. Wow was Craig Sheffer ever good in the role of the semi evil cop and Nick Tutorro added a great and interesting performance as his partner. I loved all of the Hellraisers, but mostly 1 and 2. This one is the third best in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: It's Infernal ! Review: We all know that Clive Barker frowned on it,but it's still HELLRAISER.Perhaps what really dismayed master Clive was the lack of extremely gory scenes(where are they ?) and of course the fact that no one consulted him (between us,if I were master Clive,I would have gotten upset,if I had not been insulted by the producers). As to the movie, the essence was kept,so it is still a fine movie. It could have been better, but all in all I enjoy(ed) it a lot.Pinhead can be seen here as much as he can be seen in part 1.The Cenobites don't appear much like in part 1.They're really mysterious and nothing about them is revealed. What made a lot of HELLRAISER fans get mad is that the CENOBITES are just watchers, not torturers like in part 1.The chatterer just follows the tortured corrupt police officer, who is seduced in a bizarre and original way by 2 (fe)male cenobites. The faceless cenobite is the only one that kills - Pinhead is like a judge from hell - he explains why the cop is going through that ordeal(everybody thinks he's a serial killer)and then gives his verdict based on real evidence. The movie does hold your attention, but don't try to compare this movie with the other HELLRAISER installments, you may get disappointed.I am not.
Rating: Summary: Lives up to the first Review: This like all of the past Hellraiser was top of the line. Some may be dissapointed because it is not as gory as the first four films were, but the story line makes up for it.The way I have always veiwed the Hellraiser movies was that each was a differnt perspective on how the box effects the people around it.By this I mean 1 was centered around Frank.2 was about his neice Juley.3 was pinhead himself. And 4 was the box maker. The 5th is about a cop from our time, and his own personal hell.I belive this films shows you the perspective of one who is already trapped in the bow, but doesn't know it.By the time he realizes its to late. This is a must see movie. No Hellraiser collector should go without it.A+++++
Rating: Summary: Hellraiser with story again Review: I read through most of the reviews here and decided that I needed to add my opinion so that this movie is not so misrepresented. In a way, this is 3 reviews as 2 of my friends have spoken similar to me on this. Inferno has turned from the Gore path that is fairly prevailant in horror these days. So much so, that I would say that there is about 90% less gore than the other hellraiser films. It is the psychological aspect of this movie and the emotional torment that is the foundation. Combine the movie "Seven", "Lord of Illusions", with a touch of "hellraiser 1" and this is your movie. It will keep you thinking and wondering. The effects were actually very good because they were simple and not the foundation of the movie (like so many horror movies today). Bottom line, if you like Hellraiser as it really is and not the hack and slash gorefest that is typically associated with it, and appreciate the mythology created by Clive Barker and the exploration of torment and pleasure, then watch this movie. It is definitely worth getting on DVD for the special features and, in my opinion, a very welcome and long awaited addition to anyones Hellraiser movie collection.
Rating: Summary: Horrible Review: I must say that I did expect a certain kind of movie when i went to rent Hellraiser:Inferno. But wouldn't we all?? You watch Halloween to see Myers, not a buch of candy toting, bug-headed kids! I watch Friday the 13th for Jason, and Elm Street for Freddy!! Why should I expect any less for the Hellraiser series?? It's hard to get into any movie that doesn't have a plot. The effects were shoddy, the story was lame and long-paced, not even a 2 minute appearance of Pinhead himself could revive the decrepid storyline. Even though the acting was somewhat acceptable, not even the Nightbreed guy could save this movie. Please, Hollywood, give us one last Hellraiser, fill it with blood and ripping bodies, and end this series on a good note, not some made for video fiasco.
Rating: Summary: Stupid movie Review: First off, I have to give this film credit for not trying to be Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th like Hellraiser 3 and 4, its good to see the series take a new approach to the story of the box thats the gateway to hell. But, this film has every stupid cliche you can think of for a POLICE THRILLER. And that horrible actor they got for the lead part is um, horrible. I don't even recommend renting this one.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Review: My name is Cody and I just got through watching Hellraiser 5 Inferno. I think that this movie is one of the best films in the series. One and Two where the best of all time. Three was alright and the four one was like Halloween 3. Not really a point to it. In this one they confuse you so bad. I hated it until I finally realized what was going on. You just have to see it with an open mind to know what I'm talking about. Pinhead goes back to being a total mystery to the audience. When he is in though he is the old Pinhead that we have come to love. Even though the other Cenobites suck they were still good. Out of five points I give this one a five. Cody D. Seaton
