Summary: My favorite movie of all time
Review: "Halloween" is my favorite movie of all time. Ever since I saw it, I have loved it and having seen it several times after, the entertainment value didn't drop at all. The plotline is simple: 6-year old Michael Myers stabs his sister to death on Halloween, 1963. 15 years later, on October 30, 1978, he escapes from the mental hospital and returns to his small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, to start a new reign of terror. He stalks 3 teenage girls into the night, where the real scares begin. This film is what started the "slasher" craze in the 1980's. John Carpenter does a wonderful job directing the film, keeping Michael hidden in the shadows, appearing and disappearing randomly, and he also devised a perfect main theme which is now of the most famous themes in horror history. This is Jamie Lee Curtis' first stint as an actress and I must say, she is awesome. She plays the virginal Laurie Strode to a tee, using her wits to outsmart the killer. Donald Pleasence plays Dr. Sam Loomis, Michael's psychiatrist, who tracks him down in the hopes of stopping him. A very tight and suspenseful horror film with absolutely no drop of blood spilled onscreen at all. Followed by numerous initations and 6 sequels. Also starring Charles Cyphers, Nancy Loomis and PJ Soles.

Summary: A horror masterpiece now and forever
Review: Halloween is one of the best and scariest horror movies I've EVER seen.Although I don't get scared too easily,I missed out on a lot of sleep coz I watched this. It's on my top 5 list of best horror movies ever.Right from the start your freaked. The unforgettable scary as hell music score, the dark lighting and just about every hellish twist in the book is thrown at you.Michael Myers is an excellent and very creepy villan. He's one of my favorite villans ever. There's a real danger about

him.His mask is so pale and emotionless. He has no emotion at all. What does his face look like underneath? He kills anyone in his path at all costs, friend or foe. He's a brilliant and highly imaginative villan.Donald Pleasence's performance as Dr.Loomis is incredible. The other actors are great as well. The music is awesome. It fits in perfectly and creeps me out every time I hear it. Nick Castle's performance as Myers is great and breaths plenty of depth into the character.John

Carpenter's direction is virtually flawless. He truly adds new ground to the world of horror. Besides being unbelieveably frightening,it's also VERY entertaining. This is one of those movies that I can never get bored of watching. It's not lack-luster,boring or slow like some previous reviewers say (in my opinion, anyway). This is one of the most entertaining flicks ever made.My only "real" grip with Halloween is that it's not long enough.Don't you hate it when your watching a great movie and then it ends? I sure do! These types of movies are simply just too short! My only other complaint is the lack of gore. There's practically none, and I'm a HUGE gorehound.Still, this movie is just non-stop entertainment. Excellent acting,breath-taking music,a kick-a$$ villan, scares galore and an incredibly freaky ending make this one of the best horror movies ever. The sequels are for the most part good, but somehow, just aren't as good as this.Buy this now! Rated "R" for barely any violence, but some language and brief nudity.

Summary: Incredible DVD
Review: Compared to the last dvd by anchor bay, it was like their first dvd out in November of 1997, and it was horrible. The 2 1/2 year wait for this was well worth it, all with extras and things. Although the people at Anchor Bay should have included more features that were on the Laser Discs like the review from siskel and ebert. BUt who cares it looks beautiful

Summary: What a film!
Review: Spoilers ahead.Read carefully!

Halloween is one of the best horror movies of all time. It's definitely on my top 5! It's incredibly scary and entertaining and a seriously awesome flick. The story kicks major a$$.The plot is brilliant and the execution is absolutely flawless.John Carpenter's direction is excellent and in my opinion worthy of an academy award. The story of a disturbed boy who killed his 15- year old sister at age six escapes from the mental institution he's been at for 15 years for his psychotic behavior. He's now a young man who stalks three babysitters on the scariest day of the year.Donald Pleasence gives an incredible performance as Dr.Loomis.Seriously.Nick Castle's performance as Myers is excellent. There's a real danger about Mike. He's so cold-hearted and empty. He has no emotion and stops at nothing to complete his task. His mask is really freaky. It has no emotion on the face and is pale.It completely conceals his identity, which really adds an element of fear. The music is absolutely brilliant. Carpenter knows when to play it and when not. When he plays it,BAM! Your scared stiff. The ending is extremely scary and gave me nightmares for ages. Overall,Halloween is one of the most original, enjoyable and scariest horror movies ever made. It has almost everything.Excellent acting, flawless direction,ground-breaking music,an incredibly high scare factor and a really freaky ending. The only real problem is the lack of gore.Oh,well.

The same can't be said for how freaky and entertaining the film is.Buy it now! Rated "R" for barely any violence, but some language and two scenes of brief nudity.

Summary: What? That's the highest rating I can give it? :-(
Review: If you have not seen this FABULOUS film yet, then...well...maybe YOU should start going around in a mask and go to an insane asylum. Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance (RIP), and the terrifying William Shatner mask add together to make the best horror film of ALL time. Halloween leaves you with an undeniable chill, rare in the cliched-making-fun-of-cliches films these days. Worth the money 44504fold.

Summary: Halloween-an instant clasic
Review: Slasher films are in a unique family there is the unholy ghost of Nightmare on Elm Street, the son Friday the 13th, and the father being Halloween. Halloween is the story of a child who killed his sister and was comitted in an insane institute. Fifteen years later he escapes and comes home to kill. This was the first true slasher film that gripped audiences around the world and scarred the life out of them. This film could have been hailed as a cult classic had they never made any sequels as John Carpenter intended. This film utilizes the work of shadows, music, and pace to scare the watcher instead of gore. It was great to see a DVD of the film released but i have to say i found it lacking in the exteras. I would have liked to see a commentary track by the cast and director to add to the film and some extra scenes would be nice. But do not be tured off by these short cummings the DVD is an exelent transfer of sound and picture and the extras they do have are quite good. This DVD is perfect for the die-hard fans of the film and its sequels and also for anyone that hasn't seen it who just wants a good scare. Forget Scream and those other slasher/"horror" films they dont even compare to this masterpiece of terror.

Summary: The beggining of "Slashers" as we know it.
Review: Before "Scream", before "Nightmare on Elm Street", even before "Friday the 13th" there was "Halloween". "Halloween" is the original slice and dice movie; and Mike Myers is the original silent crazed killer. Mike is the original White Masked madman. Several films have tried to copy "Halloween" but none ever work because we have all seen what happens before. Also there have been several sequels to "Halloween" and with the acception of "Halloween 6" and "H20", none are very good. But "Halloween" is a great horror classic.

Summary: One star off for subsequently wrecking a good plot.
Review: How I would love to ignore all the sequels, but that would be a little self-deceiving considering there's so many of the wretched things. (Sighs) A shame that as soon as I have clear in my own head a psychological profile for Myers, I discover that all his motivation is a Celtic curse in a clown costume. So much for Freud. Actually, I find it hard to believe John Carpenter could have intended this development. The main strength of Halloween was in realism (and I don't care for the "Bogeyman" bits, and I would much rather think that he'd just crawled off to die at the end, but have it how you will). The film is highly self-conscious, containing references to cliched genres of horror, making it clear that suburbia considers itself well out of such danger. But all it takes is a kid, a knife, an infant sexuality trauma (not to mention a pretty stupid psychiatrist who adeptly manages to freeze the kid in that state of trauma for fifteen years) and the bodies are falling out of the cupboards. I'm surprised how many consider Myers to be without motive. Surely what makes him so terrifying (at least in film #1) is the depiction of a horrendously dysfunctional child, revolted by sexuality, in a 21-year old body. Did nobody bother to notice the motifs that keep cropping up from the first scene (near-naked girls, discarded clothes, the bed, lovers on a sofa) which stimulate him to re-enact the trauma? I found that quite effective - then I found out it was a druidic curse. (sighs again) I think I'll keep my illusion. I could spend all night analysing Myers, if I really want to have dreams about being stabbed to death by a man with an inscrutable expression and no superego behind his William Shatner mask. I'll mention two other things that I've seen little comment on - the wonderful claustrophobia and the irony it provokes. Myers is never more than "three blocks" away in Haddonfield, yet evades his pursuer (Pleasance) with frightening ease (at one point, he is seen driving past right behind Dr. Loomis' back, as Loomis considers how the hell he shall set about finding him). Classic psychological horror, and all the more so when considered in isolation from the inevitable sequels. Damn market forces.
