Summary: Oh my my my my.....
Review: If you want pure gross out, edge of your seat warp horror and pure terror in a nutshell, this is the movie for you. The 2 disc dvd set is well worth the price. You get a full-on documentary aboout how the movie came together, from the directors, to the actors to Mr. Leatherface himself, it's all there...you'll learn about the legend of movie and who it was actually inspired by, you'll also get to see funny goof off moments between cast and crew onset (like Eric Balfour stripping down naked on his last day of shoot, and Jonathan Tucker mooning the camera) as well as the art behind the gory effects. If that's not enough you also get to see screentest, including Jessica Biel, Eric Balfour & Erica Leerhsen. If you still want more horror, watch the documentary based on man that is responsible for alot of this movie: "Ed Gein" - "The Ghoul Of Plainville" is a documentary that will terrify you and shows gruesome pictures of his victims. All I can say is, I saw the original and I have to say it bored me to death but I will give it credit because it did pave the way for a remake. Enjoy this dvd!!

Summary: In many ways improves upon the original..
Review: Let me start off by stating that I am a huge fan of the original and initially disliked the idea of it being remade, thinking that it would be another anemic horror film (scream, darkness falls), my initial viewing of this film left me with mixed feelings to say the least not all of which were positive. Upon repeated viewings though I must say that this film has grown on me tremendously.
My explanations for my initial mixed feelings: I think first of all it is wrong to consider this a re-make as too many elements of the original are missing: the invalid brother Franklin, the Edwin Neal psychotic hitchiker, the climactic dinner scene and any mention of cannibalism at all. What we are left with is an unflinching and often brutal horror film that stands alone from its original inspiration.
The plot is simple enough: A van load of marijuana smoking, promiscuous teens on their way to a rock concert veer off into the backroads of Texas and encounter the chainsaw wielding Leatherface and his maniac family. Marcus Nispel has created a gritty, grimy looking winner with enough gore and jolts to please even the most ardent horror film fan.
The cast, for the most part, is very good with Eric Balfour, R.Lee Ermey and Jessica Biel creating the most chemistry. R.Lee Ermey steals the show with his over the top, disturbing portrayal of the insane sheriff which is sure to make viewers cringe. Jessical Biel is a very attractive final girl, and turns in a wonderful performance on par with other legendary final girls like Jamie Lee Curtis and Marilyn Burns.
New Line has thus far delivered the horror DVD of the year with this awesomely packaged and extras filled two disc opus.
The film itself, which features three different commentaries, looks and sounds spectacular. Disc two features extras that are actually both enjoyable and informative. The deleted scenes feature loads of gore excised from the theatrical print of the film, the commentary from Nispel is very revealing.
The lenghty 75 minute Making Of..documentary is enjoyable with interviews and insights from Nispel, the cast and crew, and dedicates its first eight minutes or so to reminiscing about the original groundbreaking Tobe Hooper original.
The Ed Gein documentary provides considerable info about the Wisconsin madman who provided inspiration for not only this film but others like: Psycho, Deranged, The Silence of the Lambs. Shocking, but undeniably fascinating, a documentary worthy of A&E.
The packaging with removable metal plate is a cool idea in theory, but when removed reveals a cardboard facsimile of the metal plate artwork with random glue marks that takes away from the impact of the artwork. The crime scene photos are cool too and will undoubtedly lead more than one purchaser to believe that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre actually happened when in reality it was loosely based on the life and crimes of Wisconsin's Ed Gein.
Overall, a great horror film and a nice DVD package that deserves to be a part of every fan's collection. Let's just hope they don't cheapen this film's impact by making a sequel!!

Summary: Good scarry movie
Review: I have never seen the original, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Let me start saying, that I made a mistake of eatting dinner and watching this movie at the same time. Um, yeah, I could hardly chew, and it was only the beginning.
The cast is quickly overwhelmed by the unfamiliar terriotry, and sneaky people who aren't as helpful as they seem. It's in the middle of a hot, gross and sticky summer day.
Some of the scenes are brutal, but I did not see any cannibalism in it.
Nevertheless, the running, chasing, blood splattering, and the real suspence of what is next was great.
If you are looking for a heart tumping movie, the go for it!

Summary: Groooooooooooosse
Review: This remake of a 1970s cult cassic is not as scary as it is compleatly disgusting. The grosse-out fest begins in the first 20 minutes when the hitchhiker pulls a pistol out of her, uh, female genitalia. Right when the chainsaw starts up a youngster gets his leg hacked off. The phsycho with a skin disorder drags him to the basment and throws a hand-full of salt on the wound. There are very few truly scary part, and most of them are the glimpes of the killer's deformed face. I could'ent feel for the charecters that this town of hicks are bent on killing. Although, Jessica Biel is really hot. If you have a weak stomach, leave this one be. If you are a horror movie buff, rent the 1970s version and hold off until this one comes on cable.

Summary: Good Horror Film
Review: The first time i saw this movie i went in thinking it was going to be a remake of the original. While watching it i realized it was not and thought it was stupid and after ward hated the movie. When it came out on DVD i got it with an open mind and watched it as its own movie and really liked it. IF you go into the movie comparing it to the original you will hate it, if not you might like it. I am a big horror fan but hate the modern day horror films because they are all so stupid. Even though this movie can be considerd a slasher film, it is so much better because the film makers aren't just relying on the jump-out-and-scare tactic. They set the mood with the surroundings and the whole film just feels creepy. So I would recommend it to someone that has an open mind about horror films. As for the DVD, its awesome, the documentry on the movie and ed gein, the deleated scences, and the commentarys, its a DVD for any collector. Overall its a good movie witha great DVD. Be warned though, it is not like the original.

Review: It's a good movie with some really graphic parts at times. The whole movie is real dark and gloomy feeling, it really adds to the experience. I would recommend this movie but only to those who don't have a weak gut. Also a site to check out to find real stories about crimes and notorious crimes look up www.crimelibrary.com, also this site can be graphic, but interesting.

Summary: Like a big chainsaw commercial...
Review: Certain things should better be left alone. Like, for example, certain cult movies from the depths of the 70s such as the "Texas chainsaw massacre". Now, those who've seen the original know that it had cultdom written all over it because it had this feel to it as if it was done based on a true story. Kinda like the recent "Blair Witch project" flick but even more so. What the original didn't have was sexy babes runnin about in a hilarious scream-a-thon and a hillbilly family that wasn't scary but resembled rather the equivalent of Married with Children gone South. But lets get down to the painful details as far as this sorry remake is concerned. It'd be best if i went over a summarised list of the annoyances and nuisances in this movie: - The chainsaw wielding guy is so overused in this movie that in a perverse way it looked as if Black n Decker was doing a very advanced, cutting-edge, long commercial about its new line of products.
- Not only was the chainsaw guy overused, but eventually he turns out to be a focal comedy point in the film, as he seems to be a moody fella. First he stashes his soon-to-be-victims away in his cellar (where they can have time to hatch escape plans, and practice some more screaming) and then quite whimsically he remembers that he's got'm all sweaty and waiting down there so he picks up his chainsaw and down he goes chopping up half the staircase in the process. Sounds like a parody? Yes, but the problem is it was not intended to be, or if it was, it stayed a well hidden secret from the movie creators. - The bizzaro-murdero-caniballo hillbilly family is so funny that it adds more howling laughter to be had and spoils whatever dim hopes this film had to be even remotely "scary". I know, it sounds like an intended parody again. Well, as i said above, it wasnt supposed to be. - The good guys, composed obligatorily of 2 categories: the babes, and the hunks, falls into one of the most horrendous cliches of bad horror films. That would be that according to such films the victims are always future catwalk stars. They are also (perhaps again obligatorily) surrealy dumb. Maybe this is supposed to kick some sense of justice into us as they become anatomy experiments by the chainsaw-wielding psycho? I don't know, but i have some notions about that... - The script, is, well, what script? To paraphrase a famous adage, the first casualty of a bad movie is the script. In this one here, the script is given to the chainsaw-psycho for practice BEFORE the movie gets filmed. It's all downhill from there. All in all, as remakes are rapidly becoming Hollywood's way of bailing itself out of a dire need for scripts, we're having a sad phenomenon where perfectly good movies are butchered in the search for mo'bucks. Younger audiences might not be as offended as older ones but the result is nevertheless poor, really poor. Acceptable for a night when you're snowed out and have a serious case of the flu to take care of, otherwise check out the original.

Summary: Pretty Good remake of a great movie!!
Review: First please let me make a point about this movie. For those who stated (including critics) that they hated this movie because it was just a much bloodier version of the original are missing the point. The objective of remaking a movie is not to duplicate the original but remake it in the context of society as a whole in the time period the movie is being remade. That being said, this movie reflects the horror movies of today with the storyline and creepyness of the original. There are even some items that I liked better than the original such as the charector development was better. All be it, neither movie is great with charector development. Butthis version allows for more detail such as where the group was going to, where they were coming from, and what each charectors personalities are. It is a more complete and well thought out movie than the original. That being said, the original was a stunning piece of film when created and one of the best horror films of that generation. This movie as good as it was, will never be able to say that. So in summary, if you are a classic horror movie freak then go watch the original. If you are a little younger and like the hack and slash movies of this generation, you will find more enjoyment in this version than the original.

Summary: traumatizingly gory
Review: Set in 1973, this tale of 5 teenagers on their way to a Skynyrd concert in Dallas when they find a near-catatonic girl on the highway is full of all the gore and horror all those 1990s teen horror flicks only promised. When the girl kills herself in their van, the teenagers seek out the sheriff, and are led on a wild goose chase to an old estate. When one of them disappears, the others circle back to find him, coming face to face with a chainsaw-wielding maniac and his whacked-out family that find him just so sweet and innocent. The gore scenes are horrifying, even to those who consider themselves jaded. I know I did, but I have to take back that self-assessment now.
