Summary: Is the man known as Leatherface hiding in my closet?
Review: OK, I always got a kick out of the original TCM, I think the other reviewers nailed it in a word: disturbing. But let's face it; the original was an art-house flick of a very different era. This was a time when the strict codes of what you could show in a film had recently been lifted, and it was post late 60s, which is THE cultural divide in America. Directors were just starting to play with conventions, breaking from tradition much the way Hendrix broke from trad rock guitar. Movies like TCM, Mean Streets, Easy Rider ( which is the mother of 70's cinema ) were unique for the sake of being unique, they did it that way because they could, and because they couldn't before. Now cut to 2003, we've seen it all, that's precisely why Hollywood is doing remakes.
So having said that, this movie wasn't bad for a conventional Hollywood horror film but it was more for what it wasn't than for what it was. They tried to keep it away from a generic late 90s style teen-slasher flick with the alterna-music and psuedo savvy pop-culture jokes (although as another guy wrote, the beginning seemed like a "beer commercial"), also they could have really trashed it and gone all "Matrix" style on us with it but thankfully didn't, the filmakers admirably concentrated on horror; trying to creep you out as well as just trying to make you scream.
I think if you were 12 this movie would terrify you and keep you out of Texas for a while (and let's face it, that's the age when scary movies really work, when late at night lying awake in your bed, it's just you and the memory of Leatherface).
Some weak points: I actually think they tried a little too hard to be like the original by trying to create this eccentric super wierd family that came off as more silly than macabre. Also they should just have ditched the whole skin-disease explanation for Leatherface's wacky ways plus those kids looked way too much like the 21st century of early 70's kids (early 70's kids were ugly).
And what!? no "Black Maria" this time around (only serious TCM nerds will get that reference) but worst of all... no Leatherface chainsaw dance which is absolutley the most perplexing but cool scene from the original (it's the very last secne), now that's the kind of thing you would only see in the 70's.

Summary: Shame it wasn't a better script
Review: Four teens travelling on the lonesome roads of Texas, pick up a traumatised girl and she blows her head off. This leads them to a spooky old house, in search of an aurthority figure, but what they find is death. Glossy remake of 1974 horror classic, this entry is all about style with little thought to coherency. Great atmosphere and visuals don't disguise a cliche'd riddled script (see if you can count them). The ending almost strikes as a spoof of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.

Summary: splendid.. simply splendid
Review: I went to this, thinking it was only to be another cheap horror that doesn't nearly get your adrenaline going. All the scenes were well done. The begining starts out slow, but gives you all the more suspense. I went to this with my boyfriend, sad to say, but he jumped worse then me. The fingernails.. oh.. that scene is haunting, but leaves more charactor to the film. The way the director set it up, using old footage at the beginning/ end of the film was genious. :) I reccomend seeing this!

Summary: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003
Review: This is the first thriller that I have actually came out of the theater shaking. I love a good scare, but this one is a lot different than the other scaery movies I have seen. It's based on an actual happening in Texas, enough to scare a person out of their seats. There isn't a dull moment in this movie, which is very hard to find in a movie. See it sometime soon, just not alone! :)

Summary: Remake vs. Original...who cares? Open your damn mind
Review: This movie should be judged on its own, as any remake should be...NOT compared to the original. This film resembles the original in very few ways. This last guy here is generalizing when he assumes all the teenagers in the theater don't know the original. I'm nineteen, and a student of vintage horror films. I am a huge Tobe Hooper fan (Spielberg's shameless taking of the credit for Poltergeist, which still haunts me, is what led to my love for Tobe and hatred for money-hungry FX-obsessed Spielberg) and the genius of the original is unparalelled. You can't compare. That being said, this movie is visually stunning despite the obvious cliches, and I see them as two seperate, very good films with their own different meanings. This was a distrubing film, not at all a TYPICAL teen slasher movie. The guy needs to look beyond the fact that its a remake, as I forced myself to do, and see this film on its own as the brilliant original is viewed on its own. I don't watch films because of the studio's motivations in making them; this man cannot look past that; I can. Try broadening your mind a little and stop comparing your "purist" film of 1973 to a movie made THIRTY YEARS LATER and has little in common!!!

Summary: Best/Scariest Movie of all time.
Review: This is an extremely Frightening MOvie! It was very good and tons better then the old ones and beats the 2nd by a landslide. This movie had Perfect special effects and everything looked incredibally realistic. The leatherface looked really scary in this one unlike he did in the original. This movie had an incredible story line considering it was changed alot ( MOre chainsaw less hammer, More irony) Sadly there is no grandpa that old awesome dude who is like 140 years old ( he will be missed )
This movie had many jumpy moments which i won't ruin for you. So overall what are you doing on the Computer!!! GO SEE THE MOVIE A+++Gore 10/10

Summary: How Things *Really* Are
Review: Okay. We all know that NO FILM, reguardless of who's in it and who made it, could ever replace the original TCM. EV-AR. For a film that cannot equal its original, I must say it did come close. There were a few things that needed to be changed, i.e. Leatherface's removing of his mask (things are always much scarier when left to the imagination) and the audience getting an excuse for Leatherface's behavior (things are also much scarier when there appears to be no real motive behind the killer's actions). That did serious damage to the film's overall quality. However, this movie is worth seeing, so long as you have seen the original and know that no horror film could ever touch 'dis.

Summary: Best Horror In Years!!
Review: I remember the chilling sounds of the chainsaw in the old TCM.. but this one, in my opinion, outbeats the original. This had great actors/actresses and was beautifully shot. I know people say that it looked too much like a "music video" but that only made it better!! Looking forward to it coming on DVD, hope it has extra features. Brought more scares and frights to me than Jeepers Creepers 2 or Freddy Vs Jason.. Gave me more scares and frights than any other movie!! Go see this movie, as you will NOT be disappointed!

Summary: remake is a remake
Review: i agreed with a review that i read when it was said that this movie is not bad, but not good either. obviously this movie has to be compared to the original, but that this cannot be the sole device in which it is reviewed. This is a remake. So it cannot BE the original. When we acknowledge this, we can let the movie become contemporary and alive on it's own. we also have to acknowledge the fact that popular culture really doesn't go to the movies to have to think about anything, and the way horror movies are viewed in the "now" is that people just want to jump out of their chairs. i feel that if we compare this movie to other teen scream movies made in recent past, that this movie rates higher than most. It's due to a blending of dementia with stupid pointless gore, not just comletely revolving around gore and loud noises. The remake walks a line of very stereotypical imagery, (i.e. fingers in jars, little lost ugly kid, dark damp area of horrific device.) But it also learns and produces this from the original, leading to some ideas that turned successful. An example is when we see leatherface stitching together another mask at a wheel. The way that see him stitching, but not really dive completely into the "why's" and "how's" gives a sincere effect into the life of this man and relates back to the original. And then there are rediculous parts like when the guy gets his leg chopped off, hauled into the dungeon, meathooked and salted, just for gore effect, which to me actually ends up complementing scenes geared more toward dementia. One problem that i have is the fact that these movies seemed to be so rushed into getting the viewer from one scene to the next. Yes, it is because of the HUGE wheel of business behind movies that leads them to loose their creativity, and their ability to create and audience that might actually care about what is going on. What made the original so great was that it was made with a creative, obsessive passion by people who were not driven by making money and getting out new names. I do feel that the makers of the remake studied the original more intensely than that say of the makers of "Freddy vs. Jason," and thus produced a piece that well blends old ideas with a new vision.

Summary: Well, They've Ruined Another One
Review: I'm sorry, but anyone who is a fan of the Tobe Hooper (look it up teeny boppers) classic "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" should NOT see this movie. Why? Because it's awful! There was no point to remaking this fine film other than some producer said "Hey, I need more money for my Scrooge McDuck money bin....let's remake "T.C.M.!" I almost wish that I had never seen this movie. The theater was full of teenagers, who had quite obviously never seen the original, much like the people writing reviews here on Amazon, and they were scared out of their wits. I, along with the fellow Hooper fans in the theater, laughed our way through this horribly unscary and horribly unnesscessary remake of an already scary film. The original film make me sick and stayed on my mind for days after I had witnessed it. The original was scary because it didn't try to come up with some half-assed explanation for why Leatherface was insane...he just was. Oh, and R. Lee Ermey in a horror film? Don't think so. He's just too damn funny to scare anyone. Where was the canabalism? Where was Leatherface's f'ed up brother, and his crazy Pa? Where were the scary moments? Tobe Hooper showed us that what you don't see is FAR scarier than what you do see. To the people who disagree with this statement - you have no imagination. Pass this one over, as its just another reason with what's wrong in Hollywood - recylced ideas and unoriginal remakes. Oh, and I almost shot myself when I saw the preview for the "Dawn Of The Dead" remake - where does it end? Is nothing sacred?! What's next? "Suspiria?" To those of you who call yourselves 'Horror Film' fans and don't know "D.O.T.D." or "Suspiria" - you should be ashamed of yourselves. Much like the people who think that this film is better than the original. For shame!
