Summary: Not as bad as they say
Review: A lot of people are complaining about this movie not being a word for word remake of the original. That a lot of the orignial movie was left out of this newer version. So what? That is the idea of a remake, if you want the same movie, request that the original be remastered and redigitized. or just watch the version that you like and stop complaining about the travesty of doing it over.

Plus the whole idea of a movie it to make art, but also make money. I doubt that director or orignal cast of the first movie refused any more than the movie cost or rejected royalties on the basis that they were artists and didn't want sell out.

The original was a classic, but it was made in a different era. The same things wouldn't work the second time around that worked when the orignal was made.

This movie succeded on several levels. It was gruesome, parts of it were scary, and it was disturbing in a lot of places. The acting was good, the inbreds in the family and around the town were pleasantly stomach churning, leatherface wasn't overused and stayed relatively fresh up to the end, and the movie had a sweaty grungy feel that helps you feel that you are there.

If you go in this movie with an open mind, you will probably like it. if you go in with a fanboy attitude and all you want to do is cut it down, you will probably hate it. There are flaws to be sure, but it is a movie, they are to be expected.

Summary: Better than original!!!
Review: Im a total horror movie buff, always have been. I cant go through a week without craving a good scare, but I struggle to find a good horror film these days!!! Alas, My prayers have been answered in the form of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"
The first film was a good film, but wasnt in the top 10 of horror movies for me. This remake went straight to #2 in my charts (behind the Evil Dead trilogy). its such a well - made professional horror movie.
Leatherface is no where near as pathetic as in the old film, but iis still a character, unlike Jason Voorhees or Micheal Meyers. The mask looks so much better and scarier, and the chainsaw has a much bigger part in this one ( For being called The Texas CHAINSAW Massacre, there wasnt too much chainsaw. More people were killed by the sledgehammer!!!).
The crazy family is also much bigger and more varied this time around, and I like the fact that more info is given about them this time (This could have went either way, but was a good touch) Also, this time, it seems more of a massacre, such as the police footage and such!
gore was a major factor in this remake. The first Texas's genius was partly from the fact that the amount of gore was very small. This time around, there is more gore, but it is not overdone. There is still scenes which leave to the imagination.
I like the idea of directorial debuts on horror films. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre worked brilliantly. My hopes are high for the Dawn of the Dead remake. It is true what the critics say, "Horror movies are back!!!"

Summary: R. Lee Ermey ruins this remake for EVERYONE ! ! !
Review: Horrible idea casting R. Lee Ermey in this remake of Tobe Hooper's horror classic. He becomes the center of attention and it's almost like watching "Full Metal Jacket Part 2." Any attempts to distill Hooper's claustrophobia are absent. Not worth your time.

Summary: Not a fan of remakes but...
Review: I'm not a big fan of remakes. I think they're another example of Hollywood running out of original ideas for movies. This goes along with sequels, movies based on comic book heroes, bestsellars, and TV shows. The greed machine is never ending, and quality movies will always take a back seat to making a quick buck on bad films like Maid in Manhattan.
I have to take exception to Texas Chainsaw. I found the film to contain some shocking and scary jolts. I actually admire the directors approach to the film style. There was a gritty creepy menace to the movie.
The film star Jessica Biel and her tight white tank top. Jessica is fresh from getting out of her contract from the WB's 7th Heaven, and does an honorable job as the heroine. She and her friends are traveling to a concert, when they pick up a listless hitchhiker girl. The girl commits suicide by blowing her brains out in front of them. They try to find help and soon start fighting for their lives when they're have a run in with Leatherface and his family.
The film does hold back on the gore which is a bit of a letdown but has a great scene where a guy is hung on a meat hook and he tries to lift himself off it.
I was never a fan of the original Tobe Hooper film. I admired it's shock value, but thought it was a big bore.
So in conclusion, I would recommend TCM if you're ready for a good scare, and not much else. Remember nothing new being done here, but a worthy effort. White tank top is optional.

Summary: A very good remake !
Review: Ok the original still rules and it's been a classic because very low budget making the picture looking like nothing else. The actors were kind of improvising, there was no real plot. Total madness. Here it comes a remake with all the things Hooper didn't have at this time. Money, visual effects, money, great special fx, money ... My opinion, I don't think this new TCM lost of its charm. Great directing from Nispel, great SFX, good acting (Biel is so hot) and creepy atmosphere. For sure they touch a bit too much to the original family in my opinion. I miss the very decomposed and senile Grand Pa, I miss the parts showing that the family were cannibal and provide the whole area with their meat, I miss the TEXAS look like it was showed in the old TCM and I miss the mad Leatherface brother. Where is he ? what happen to him ? I don't think what they add in the new TCM concerning the family, is very interesting personnally. The girl couple with the baby (What's the matter with this kid anyway ?and about the quasi normal mother.. I hated the scenes in the beginning (hitchhicker they avoid her on the road Ok whata relief ! but why do they stop then??) and in the end(...) Ok there will be a sequel but...
Okay then conclusion :A great Horror movie if you are not a big fan of the original.
ps/ the Black&White scenes beginning and end, USELESS !

Summary: One of the few remakes that's truly great...
Review: As a major horror fan and a huge Texas Chainsaw Massacre fan, I know that the horror genre is plagued with horrible sequels and worse remakes, if there is one (thankfully, there aren't very many remakes). When filmmakers do decide to remake a horror film, it's usally a major title. Take Psycho for example; one of the greatest horror films of all time. It broke rules, it made history, and it was made by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. The remake, however, is one of the worst remakes ever thought of. [NOTHING was different, nothing new, just new actors and color...horrible movie.] When I heard they were remaking the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I was filled with joy...and unease. Going into the theatre, I was prepared to be dissapointed. I most certainly was not. I loved it. Everything from cinematogaphy, casting, adaptation (between scripts), and acting (yes, even acting) was Bea-utiful. Of course, if horror just isn't your cup of tea and/or you want to "try something different," this film isn't for you.
As for this film being true or not......it's a confusing subject. The original was [roughly] dubbed a true story, the remake is dubbed "inspired" by a true story. Honestly, I haven't the answer to whether this is true or not. As a citizen of Texas, I was told long ago(childhood), before I had even heard of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that there was a case in which their was a ghoulish family who "cut up" people and later sold their "meat" to meat markets; whether this ghoulish family traveled or not was dissputed. These massacres were thought to have been done in west texas, just outside of Childress (creepy since I have family who lives near there.)
Anyways, this was a great film, and a great remake. Granted, it wasn't as great as the original, but it came close to it. (Frankly, the only remake that was better than the original is Dawn of the Dead.)

Summary: Texas Chainsaw Remake
Review: This movie holds its own. The cast was refreshingly good. Leatherface got a touch up and looked even more disfigured. However at the end of the film I felt unsatisfied. Then it dawned on me... it wasn't the original. The original just had a certain feel to it that this new one didn't acquire. Overall a good movie, as long as you haven't seen the original.

Summary: the remake out does the original
Review: This movie truly is one of the best movies I have ever seen, a great horror film that will last forever. When people now think of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, they will think of the newly updated version, as opposed to the original where its as slow as George Bush trying to find some WMD's in Iraq...there just no point to it. Casting is amazing, especially the seargeant!!
