Summary: [Groose]
Review: This remake of 1970s cult cassic was not as scary ans it was compleatly disgusting. The gore fest begins as soon as the Hitchhiker pulls a pistol out of her, uh, female (...). The inbread sharif opon wrapping her dead body,"She's a little wet down there".(group shutter) Almost as soon as the chainsaw starts up a youngser's leg is hecked off. He is draged into the basement, and the pyscho with a skin disorder throws a handfull of salt on the wound. There are very few truely scary moments, and most of which are the glimpes of the killer's deformed face. The acting is good and Jessica Biel is really hot, but that can't save this bloody mess. If you have a weak stomach, leave this one be. If you are a horror movie buff, rent the 1970s version, and wait for for this one to come on cable.

Review: The real fear is seeing a Michael Bay produced or directed movie!
Now thats terror!!!!
This movie is about as scary as a music video!!

And anybody telling you its based on actuall events that happened in Texas is either lieing or their just ignorant to the facts!
One can think that if there are really people as oblivious to commen sense as portrayed in this this mess are the ones who made this movie!!!!

Original was made with $150,000
Remake was made with millions

Original=Genious's
Remake=A bunch of morons

Summary: Don't Compare
Review: I am a huge fan of the 1974-Tobe Hooper's film Texas Chainsaw Massacre and consider it to be one the most intelligent horror films ever made. So I did have few misgivings about watching this new remake (and not another sequel), being very much disappointed before with similar ventures(one example that comes to my mind is Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes),but watch it I did and I have to admit that I did enjoy it very much.
You have to give credit where credit is due, and to be fair Marcus Nispel, in his first feature film, did a competent job in creating a dark and sinister atmosphere from the very start, and injecting an balanced and effective dosage of tension/suspense and gore. All the actors were very good, especially the excellent R.Lee Ermey as the demented sheriff/head of the psycho family,(yes the one and only R.Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket fame, but it seems unfair that he is mostly remembered for Kubrick's masterpiece as he has done a large collection of work since).Other actors who impressed me were Six Feet Under's Eric Balfour, and of course Jessica Biel!
Now I have to point out a very important matter:
You will enjoy this film much more if you do not compare it too much with the original, as some reviewers did, but watch it instead as a 'new' film.
Indeed, the two Texas Chainsaw Massacre films are based on the same horrible events that actually happened in Texas's backyard.
Although choosing the same title was a bold move and will inevitably draw much criticism (hence the very low marks from some reviewers) because no matter how good Nispel's version is, no one can possibly recreate the sheer raw and unrelenting power and brutality of the first. But I don't think the filmmakers intended to do that..with a screenplay based on the 1974 one by Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper, I do believe that they acknowledged the classic status of the original, and in a way, I think, they pay a tribute to it, and it is not a pretentious and haughty attempt to undermine it.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a good film, that deliver good 'ole fashioned 'edge of your seat-popcorn flying' tension, one that you will enjoy much more if you forget the original for a while, and acknowledge a competent direction and acting.

Summary: YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
Review: Tobe Hooper actually co-produced this repellent, foul mouthed, mostly in name only remake of his classic original. This needless version is nothing more than a big budget splatter flick complete with bad directing, bad acting, and an equally bad script. Sick and disgusting from start to finish, this mess will only appeal to those who think Jeffrey Dahmer would have made a good babysitter. Dirty, grimy looking trash from the nastier-is-better school of film making goes on far too long, but still, this is obviously someones idea of a good time. Oh, and by the way, Leatherface shows up somewhere in the film, if you care. Worst of all: R. Lee Ermey(of "Full Metal Jacket" fame)as an obscenity spewing redneck sheriff. What a waste.

Summary: The movie is good but the 1 disc DVD sucks!
Review: Besides the cool cover and the music video, this DVD has nothing on it besides trailers and TV spots. I suggest that if you want real features then fork out the extra 10-15 bucks for some cool stuff. but if you thought the movie was okay and just want to own it because you're a horror fan, then just stick with the 1-disc because you probably don't care about features and just want to see Jessica Biel run around (nude scene anybody?) in a tight shirt and want nothing more than that. See the movie then make your decision!

Summary: Good Solid Horror Film
Review: Ok first off the DVD i think New Line put alot of effort into the special 2 disk DVD lots of extras, i like how the case folds out into a long chainsaw blade, and the crime photo cards that come with it are a good touch to the package, i just wished maybe the sleeve it fit into was all metal also,(instead of just a metal card which is cool itself) as for the picture quality its excellent anamorphic widescreen, and the sound rocks on any good surround sound even just a stereo system.

as far as the movie goes,( and im not gonna yet again tell the entire story here everyone else already has) to me besides the fact its a so called remake, and the fact its "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" its a solid horror movie that delivers scares, some gore and weirdness, unsettling, and disturbing, whacked out characters! what else would one expect in a chainsaw movie? i dont think it outdoes the original, for the original its the creepyness weird disturbing factor that played alot on how it affected people and the look of it like a documentary ok low budget, i guess if one is younger ( i mean as in teen young) and wasnt around then you may miss what people mean then again i know people my age who seen it for the first time both versions and are upset by it so, it all depends on who you are.
at anyrate for all the people who hate the new one thats fine, someone liked it, a 9 or 10 million dollar movie that grossed over 80 million means something other then money. i think some people go into seeing these movies take it wayyy to serious, i recall people hating the original at the time critics of course hated it, just today most critics hate it, around here any texas chainsaw movies are not shown on tv like they used to back in the 70's and 80's tv is to PC nowdays.

Summary: Great Remake of a Great Film!
Review: Five young twenty-something's on a road trip pick up a hitchhiker on the way to a Skynard concert in hopes of helping the young girl find her way home. When the hitchhiker freaks out and blows a hole through her head with a gun she had hidden, the group is stuck trying to do the right thing and get in touch with the cops. However, the desolate town they are in doesn't seem all that conducive to their situation and before they know it the group is being picked off one by one by a clan of inbred murderers. The infamous Leatherface shows up with his chainsaw and begins the blood bath that continues throughout the film's entirety.

After watching the original film before going to see the remake, I can say that I really enjoyed this remake much better than the original. The original is a great film, but this remake has a lot more to offer to more modern audiences. The original movie might have been great for it's time, but it really pales in comparison to horror/slasher flicks of more recent years, including this current remake. The genre as a whole has really changed, and thus audience expectations have as well. What may have been scary, gory, and tense before is no longer the standard for more current films, and Nispel knew that when making this movie.

One BIG difference that I found (and liked) between the two versions is the variance in plot. The new movie goes into much more detail, and explains things that I felt were left out in the original movie. There were gaps in the plot of the original movie that the new version tries to fill. Sure, they did have to change some plot elements completely, but not only did this keep you surprised (if you are familiar with the first film), it also helped the flow of the story tremendously. Nispel didn't try to remake the original film word for word, but rather made changes that would keep fans of the original movie interested and in suspense. Another difference was the "scare factor." I was MUCH more scared watching this movie than I was viewing the original. I actually jumped in my seat at a few parts during this film. Nispel did a great job of keeping the tension maintained throughout the movie's entirety. There was also more gore as well. The acting in this film was great as well. I found the actors/actresses in this version to be much more likeable and believable than in the original film.

As a side note, I like the fact that the film-makers tried to make the plot out to be a "true story." I was even handed a fake police report as I was walking into the theater. Though this movie is very loosely based on a true story (so loosely that it shouldn't even really be considered a "true story"), I thought the extra effort added to the scariness of the movie, and helped make the plot more cohesive. The extras on this DVD help to explain the real Ed Gein. I loved the included documentary on this special edition DVD, as well as all of the other extras.

Overall, I really think this movie does a great job of updating a classic to be a more viewable movie for modern audiences. Furthermore, I'm glad I sprung for the special edition DVD because the extras are worth it. If you enjoy more recent horror movies, and like being scared, then get this film! Be forewarned: it will make you not want to eat meat for a while!

Summary: A HORRIBLE MESS
Review: If you haven't seen this movie yet, consider yourself lucky. Go out and rent the ORIGINAL Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This remake is horrible! I can't get the image of the goofball guy who looks like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo outta my mind -- driving that minivan with Sweet Home Alabama playing on the radio. AAAAAAA! Scary stuff!

One of the reasons given for the R-rating is "drug content." Uh-huh. Don't blink, or you'll miss the guy taking a quick toke.

The original was a real horror film. This remake is simply a gross-out film. Nothing new. Nothing scary. Even "Leatherface" is a yawn. He looks like a bloated Elvis Presley wearing a Richard Nixon mask.

Summary: meh...nothing special
Review: well...as i hated the original movie (couldnt stand the 30 minutes screaming near the end), this remake was better that most remakes. It had alright casting, great effects, but boring story. This is one of those movies that lasts forever andnever ends, it has a boring beginning but get good just as u want to turn it off. Leatherface looked superb, but i didnt like the little noises he made, it seemed forced. But all in all it has very good gore and at (some) times is frightful. I would think twice about actually reccomending it to sombody, but u have to see for yourself.

o yea... WHERES THE EXTRAS! there is none, they make u pay an extra $10 for some crappy extras, what a rip-off
