Summary: The one that started them all.
Review: It is amazing when you stop and think about it, that today, over 40 years after it has been done, Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" still remains a fresh and harrowing movie-watching experience. This is the trend-setter film, the one that got the so-called "slasher genre" going. Do I need to write a synopsis of the movie here? No, not really, do I? Anyone who is anyone would know what Psycho is about. What I still fail to understand is, how come Alfred Hitchcock didn't get an Academy Award for his fantastic directing? How come Bernard Herrmann didn't get one for his spooky (and endlessly imitated, too) musical score? And especially, how come Anthony Perkins didn't get one?He could pass for a shy, stammering, apparently nice young man in one scene, to a totally demented and crazy man, with a glint of evil in his eye, in the next. Even though this film is black and white, you can still see that glimmer of insanity in Norman's eye in moments. He really lived the role beautifully. Despite it's age, this film will never get old. This, in my opinion(shared by many others, I would presume) is the undisputed classic of the Master of Suspense, and a must have for any classic film collector.

Summary: A Brilliant Masterpeice.
Review: There is hardly anything to dislike about Psycho. The performances from Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins are breathtaking, and the screenplay and cinematography are absolutely incredible. The direction from Alfred Hitchcock is excellent, this is easily his best work yet, and you can tell it is the one he worked most hard on. Psycho is a brilliant, ingenius peice of work that anyone could easily call a masterpeice. The best film of the 60's, and a definite runner up for Best Horror Film of All Time, Psycho gets a 10 out of 10 rating from me!

Summary: Hitchcock at his best!
Review: I first saw this movie last summer at a friends house, and I immediatly went out and bought the movie! It is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. It is about a woman named Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) who is on the run with some stolen money. She drives off, leaving her job and her home. She ends up at the Bates Motel, which is ran by a creepy manager named Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins). Norman notices that she is wet and cold since it was raining outside, and offers to make her a sandwich and get her something warm to drink. He goes into his house to get the food, and Marion overhears Norman yelling at someone, who turns out to be his mother. Marion starts to worry, and apologizes to Norman that she got him into trouble. He tells Marion that his mother is not quite herself. Marion eats her food, and talks to Norman, and then she goes into her cabin to take a shower. Someone comes into the shower and stabs her to death. Norman suspects that it was his mother, and cleans up the mess, and drives Marion's car into a lake. Anyways, a detective and Marion's sister and boyfriend end up investigating the scene....and thats all that I am saying! Rent this movie! It is great, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: The MOTHER of all slasher films
Review: Alfred Hitchcork's Psycho is was and always will be my favorite film.The very thought from it makes my blood run cold.It's one of the darkest films ever made.The present generation audiance would have watched many violent movies and many shocking sences on the tv.But Psycho still scares them like hell.I cant imagine the shock the audiance would have felt when it was first released back in the 1960's Everybody knows that psycho is a landmark in movie history and it changed the grammer of horror films.Inspierd from the real life killer Eddie gein.It is about a woman with a dark secret who stays in a spooky motel for the night which has darker secrets of it's own. First it makes us belive that janet is the star of the film and kills her suddenly. and then tell us norman bates mother is the killer and tells us that she died years ago. In an interview alfred hitchcork said that he was scared of cops in his childhood and that really shows in this film.The shower bath murder is really scary.The bloody water going down the bathtub followed by the contracted eyes of janet leigh is so scary and just when you would think could there be anything more scary comes the identity of the mother.I have never seen a film with so much classic sences. I cant understand why it didnt get any main oscar awards. Expecially the best director to alfred hitchcork. Till this day i have never seen a film so brilliantly directed with so much passion and deication. Who won that year,Who were the judges that year.And now it is not even in the top 5 best movies of the last century. It should be at No-1. I still say the biggest blunder in movie history is making sequals to Psycho,and that too without alfred hitchcork. I dont want to comment on if they are worthy sequels are not.It is better to leave it o the audiance imagination what happened to Norman bates in his early days and what will happen to him. Now why would a respectable director like gus vant sant remake psycho why would anybody want to remake psycho when the original one was still arround and still very fresh.They could have released it again after some film surgery just like vertigo. Everybody who watched psycho couldnt forget it and they dont like to but i would like to forget it completly every sence WHY ? So that i could experiance the feverish suspance i felt when i first saw psycho sitting on the edge of the seat bitting my nail and thinking Who killed marian crane ?,Who is the mother ? If she died 10 years ago who is that up there ? What is the secret of the bates motel?. I really feel sorry fo hitchcork being the director there is no way he could have enjoyed all those feverish suspances. And for people who knew the whole story from before watching the movie, Fellows you have no idea what you just missed. There is another suspance in the movie what version are you watching. Some versions of psycho shows the skeleton of mother on normans face in between the shots of the close up of normans face and the car being towed from the swamp.Hitch's expelanation was that he wanted the audiance to think did i really see that.My version of psycho is without it.Wonder what you are going to get that should be really interesting. So Alfred Hitchcorks Pscho is the Mother (ha ha) of all slasher films

Review: We all know how brilliant the movie was (especially Janet Leigh), so i won't focus on that. This DVD comes with lots of extras, including many pictures, trailers, re- release trailers, and a wonderful documentary, which features actors (Janet Leigh, Pat Hitchcock), the writer (Joseph Stephano), and personal assistants of Hitchcock. This is definitely worth the money!

Summary: Norman's oedipal complex makes Hamlet's a walk in the park.
Review: Quick summary: Marion Crane rips off her employer, flees the city, stays in a hotel, and is stabbed to death in the hotel shower. Marion's boyfriend, her sister, and a detective investigate her disappearance. The dialogue is what makes this movie great. For instance, the viewer learns how repressed the hotel owner, Norman Bates, is when he cannot even say the word "bathroom" in front of Marion. He stumbles and finally points it out to her. "The...over there." But while Norman is twitchy and ill at ease, he is still very perceptive. "You eat like a bird," he tells Marion. "Actually, birds eat quite a lot." He has just informed Marion that he knows that she is not quite what she seems. She is rapacious, full of "fa-fa-falsities." He goes on, "I like to stuff birds." And Marion's fate has been decided. When Marion leaves the room, Norman thoughtfully eyes one of his stuffed birds. The shower scene horror comes from the stark, white, brilliant lighting, accompanied by the screeching, stabbing violins. A killer soundtrack. There is no escape for Marion, and no place to hide. The horror of experienceing her own death shows in her eyes. With Marion's death, viewer sympathy transfers to Norman who turns his energy towards concealing Marion's death at the hands of Mother. The detective, Marion's sister, and Marion's boyfriend show up to investigate. Norman continues to elicit viewer sympathy while he repeats the verbal cat-and-mouse he did with Marion while trying to protect Mother. But in a Hitchcock film, everyone is held accountable for their actions. The vulgar capitalist gets his money stolen by Marion, Marion is knifed, Norman and his mother answer for the crimes committed at Bates Motel. Great lines: "After all, a boy's mother IS his best friend." Norman to Marion. "She may have fooled me, but she did not fool my mother." Norman to Detective. "I can handle a sick, old woman!" Marion's sister to Marion's boyfriend. Psycho has an unexpected, revelatory twist that shocked the 60s audience more so than THE CRYING GAME and THE USUAL SUSPECTS shocked the 90s audience. Mother's soliloquy and Norman's chilly smile sum up the true horror of the entire movie. More linear and tightly controlled than NORTH BY NORTHWEST and VERTIGO. A sympathetic killer more bent and twisted than in ROPE, but portrayed with more class than FRENZY. Higher level of intense horror than THE BIRDS which is almost equal to PSYCHO as Hitchcock's best. Not one mistake, it is still perfect 40 years later. Precursor to later slasher films, which borrow heavily: HALLOWEEN and AMERICAN PSYCHO are just a few.

Summary: Psychologically the extreme film
Review: Well, what makes Psycho so special among the other horror movies is the sheer intensity and psychological tension there is loaded. Anthony Perkins does the role of his life, as we are waiting horrified whenever this lunatic and nervous timebomb will explode. You don't see many movies which manage to keep the strong tension and horror throughout the film. Particularry impressive scenes are conducted around the psychological issues, and the scenes where you see the house from down the hill - spooky! the one and only among INTELLIGENT horror movies!

Review: I'm sorry but i don't see how anyone can give this a bad review. It is a piece of genius. The story the acting everything. You have to give it a chance, and if your not easily scared don't think it will scare the pance off you. AND SEE THIS BEFOR THE REMAKE

Summary: Hitchcock's Best Work
Review: Ever since I saw a special about hi on AMC I've been an Alfred Hitchcock fan. I just recently seen Psyco and it was a great horror movie even for the 1960s. I recognized that many scenes fromPsyco were spoofed in such shows as Family Guy, The PJs and The Simpsons. I'd recommend this movie to Hitchcock fans and people who like classic horror films, but if you are looking for nudity then buy the remake.
