Summary: Beautifully Produced, well packaged, but...
Review: Where the heck is the pilot episode???? Why does David Lynch insist on being difficult when it comes to packaging his work? The pilot isn't even available stateside, I had to track down an import, with horrible sound quality. Plus, why release season 1 if you have no intention of releasing season 2? I know some viewers believe season 2 to be largely inferior, but at least release the full cultural document!

Review: What is everybody talking about when they say that the first episode is not on any of the DVD's in this series? I brought the series and on the first disk there is a pilot episode and the first episode, so what are these people on about about?! Anyway my advice on whether or not to perchase this DVD pack is that it is well worth the money! and will keep any Linch/Frost fan happy as it has four DVD's in it that keep one entertained for many hours and is a deffinent necessity that is needed to complete any good DVD collection.

Review: A classic of television this release is marred only by the perplexing omission of the first episode. I am not referring to the pilot. When Twin Peaks was first aired by the BBC in the u.k. there was a first episode different from the pilot, which I still have on VHS.

Summary: Where is the rest of this CRUCIAL SERIES
Review: Where do I begin raving about TWIN PEAKS? This series began centered around "Who Killed Laura Palmer?", and grew to reveal a small town in Washington state that had more secrets than the entire Kennedy clan combined! The acting was great, the set designs magnificent, writing sublime, and the direction always spot on. The music was one of the best most recognizable soundtracks ever, and I will never get it out of my head! The series itself was an anomaly for television. David Lynch's breathtaking world came to life for an audience that refused to be looked down on. There were never easy answers to any of TWIN PEAKS, and symbolism ran rampant. It made television literate! The smartest series ever made! It has not been matched before or since. The DVD is a fully loaded affair! You get commentaries from key players (save for Lynch himself), interviews with almost ALL the cast members, and some really fun featurettes covering a variety of subjects down to the pies made for the show. It's appropriately dense, and requires the user to look hard for everything on the discs. And it's so reasonably priced you get value for your buck! The only downside is this is the first season proper minus the pilot episode. Only the pilot was actually shot in Washington, but amazing how they made Southern California so convincingly Pacific Northwest! You have to buy the pilot separately, and the second season as of this date has not been announced as a release. I have the entire series on VHS, and the picture and sound here is a breathtaking improvement. This quirky series was shot in a way to make you want to adjust the television, the colors are always just ever so slightly off but that was totally on purpose. You can't beat the price here! Grab a pie and a cup of joe, and enjoy the world's best television series. At least the first season of it. But don't get too angry at the end when all you want is MORE! How about it Artisan?

Review: In the spring of 1990, the ABC network treated it's viewers to a most unusual viewing experience; the David Lynch and Mark Frost creation "Twin Peaks". A hybrid murder/mystery, primetime soap opera, darkly funny comedy and super- natural thriller...Twin Peaks was all of these and yet at the same time none. It would use what on other shows would be clichés to create a richly woven tapestry so original, thought provoking and emotionally truthful that it re- defined what television at it's best could truly be. At times it was hilarious and absurd, other times it was heart-wrenching in it's honesty of human emotion and suffering, and still other times it was deeply chilling and disturbing with images you can't easily shake off days after...and sometimes it was all these things at once. There had never been anything even remotely like it on TV before and (so far) nothing like it since. It's influence can be seen in countless other programs...but only elements, no one has achieved the true artistry that "Twin Peaks" had. Being a mid-season replacement series, the whole of it's first season was only 7 episodes and had much of America asking the question "Who killed Laura Palmer?". The series' was set in the fictional, northwestern town of Twin Peaks, where the murdered body of local homecoming queen, Laura Palmer is found on a beach wrapped in plastic. This event sets the stage for the arrival of FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) and the subsequent investigation as to the identity of her killer. It is this investigation that will uncover the quiet trappings of this small mountain town to reveal dark secrets hidden within and and even darker things lurking without. He will encounter a remarkable cast of characters, all with their own personal agendas. "Twin Peaks" was and still remains groundbreaking television of the first order. It was stylistically cinematic, each episode looks very much like an hour long feature film with an equally impressive soundtrack presentation. It was incredibly well written (with so many quotable lines the mind boggles at them all) with fabulous characters, a wonderful sense of humor and a shadowy (and sometimes very scary) sense of mystery. The large ensemble cast of MacLachlan, Michael Ontkean, Piper Laurie, Sherylynn Fenn, Laura Flynn Boyle, Peggy Lipton, Miquel Ferrer, Ray Wise, Joan Chen and far too many more to list here are all uniformly excellent in their respective rolls. For "Twin Peaks"' debut on DVD, Artisan Home Entertainment has put together a very nice set featuring episodes 1 thru 7 (unfortunately the 2 hr. pilot is missing due to rights issues, originally owned by Warner Bros. it is now owned by Paramount). The packaging is a slick fold-out design with transparent slip case, much like the design of Fox's X-Files box sets. 4 discs are included. With only 2 episodes per disc, these transfers are mastered at a very high bit rate and the results are stunning. Having been used to the soft, grainy picture afforded by the previous video versions of the series, I was quite unprepared for the unbelievable picture quality delivered on this release. These new high definition, re-mastered transfers are breathtaking, with colors rendered perfectly (the green opening titles nearly leap off the screen). Blacks are solid with excellent shadow detail, flesh tones are accurately reproduced and the show's red color schemes have never looked better (without a trace of bleeding). No digital artifacts are present and I never noticed any signs of edge enhancement, all in all an incredible job. The same can be said for the sound presentation here, you can choose between Dolby digital 5.1 surround and 2.0 surround or (in a first for any television DVD product) DTS digital surround. These are very good mixes, the DTS surround being the best. The surround elements are reserved mostly to ambient sounds and Angelo Badalamenti's brilliant music, dialogue is placed mostly in the center and is clear and intelligible. This is television and not a Hollywood action spectacular so don't expect reference quality surround use, but a detailed sound mix perfectly suited to the show. Badalamenti's score is especially well presented here. I would suggest to first time viewers to try and get hold of the pilot episode. Although it has an alternate ending filmed as a possible "closed" ending for European markets, it is actually an uncut version of Cooper's dream in episode 2. You can also purchase an import DVD of the pilot from Amazon.com which is the original broadcast version, the video and audio is not as pleasing as on the set reviewed here but still it is acceptably good. Artisan has included a booklet with the season 1 set explaining the events of the pilot but I would suggest viewing it if possible before viewing ep.1 thru 7. With each show being a day in the investigation, viewers will likely be lost without the events of the pilot to start from. Overall a very impressive set from Artisan. If you missed this extraordinary show before, don't miss it this time. And please hurry up with Season 2.

Review: This series, "Twin Peaks", continues to intrigue my mind as I watch. I mean, I find something new about it everytime I watch it. I remember sneaking to cut on the TV and risking a severe tush-whoppin' just to view this cult-classic. If you like mystery and suspense, this is the DVD to get!

Summary: The waiting game............Do not buy this set.
Review: Well......having anxiously run out and purchased the First Season on DVD and watching them all with my girlfriend, (Whom had never seen it before) I then waited for the second season patiently. For nothing! This was released in 2001. It is now more than half way through 2003, and still no second season. Now not only did I have to wait for the season ending finales and such when the show was really on television, apparently I am supposed to wait 4 years in between the release of the DVDS. At this rate I will be dead of old age before Coop even gets close to who killed Laura Palmer. Oh! But you can pre-order it the second season. BTW release date............unknown. Therefore the quality of the set is inconsequential. This is exactly the type of business practice we should punish companies for. Not reward them with ill earned money, since any thinking child of 10+ knows that 2001-2003 and counting for something that is never going to have a new episode and is just sitting around waiting for release is flatly absurd and dishonest. I would sell this item on Ebay to recoup some of my loss but I refuse to foist this on anyone else. That would make me the bad guy and there is definately one in this. It isn't me. Artisan insisted on this. Great job guys.

Review: I watched this and was very excited, i wish it could go on and on and on. Unfortunately it doesn't go on, so I ate the DVDs and casing and made a small poo castle. Isn't that wonderful?

Summary: Disjointed & Disfunctional
Review: David Lynch's TV series Twin Peaks, still followed religiously by hordes of well-meaning but overly obsessive geek fans, was a singular moment in television creativity. With the bottom-line now the only consideration network execs have as to the production of a series, the creative and financial control that was given to Lynch and the series' writer, Mark Frost, is likely never to be seen again. So if you're a fan of convoluted and enigmatic storylines (one of the few constants of Lynch's works) that require an almost singular dedication to understand, then you've found your set. And a note to the nerds: Lynch doesn't grant interviews for a reason. He doesn't think his work should be analyzed in the manner you people have been doing for the past 13 years! Your personal interpretation is the right one, so quit with all the damn theories.
