Summary: Not pleased
Review: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR ANY OTHER AUDIOVOX PRODUCT. They do not stand behind what they make.

I bought this product. I bought it for travel for the kids and myself. I brought it home and charged it, because I wanted to see how long the battery would last. The next night I tried it out.

On first play of a boxed set of DVD's it stopped playing the first disk. Thinking it was a mistake I put in the second disk. The same thing happened. Upon further inspection of the disks it had made perfect circular scratches in the disk.

I called Audivox, after all a product should work out of the box right? Well they told me that they would not replace the disks because they are not responsible for damage done DVD's. It is NEW just out of the box player.

Well to me this is unacceptable! I think a product should be quality tested and should work from the get go. They were not willing to say that it was a faulty product. They also wanted me to pay shipping to send it back for repair. This too is unacceptable.

Buyers beware! I will return the player to Target for a full refund, but I am out the cost of the boxed set of DVD's because I can not replace 2 of 4 disks that the player ruined. Audiovox could care less that a brand new portable DVD player is the cause.

I am reluctant to find another one at this point; but I know for sure it will NOT be made by Audiovox.

Summary: Never buy Audiovox
Review: I bought the model before the Audiovox D1800 that came out just over a year ago. The DVD player was fantastic at first but then began it to act up by suddenly stopping or skipping scenes and then about a month ago the motor went out. The portable player was only used on plane trips or long car rides (mind you these car/plane rides were never longer then 3 hours and they occured maybe seven times over the last year). I called Audiovox to see how I could go about fixing it and since I was just one month over my warranty, they wanted $160 just to look at the machine and then they would charge me again once they discovered what was wrong with it. I began to call around to repair shops when I discoverd that Audiovox can not actually repair the player and therefore was planning on charging me another $200 to send me a brand new model. This sounds great until you realize that at $360 you have now pretty much just bought yourself a new player. No explanation for why the motor burnt out so quickly and they almost made $900 off of me for one purchase. Since my experience I have asked people who have the the D1800 what their thoughts are and I have only heard poor reviews thus far. This is not a product I would reccomend for purchase.

Summary: Good DVD Player at good price
Review: I had been researching portable players in advance of a purchase as a gift to my son. While I was attracted by the 10 inch Samsungs, and the Panasonics, the prices just stayed too high. Came across the AudioVox at a $[amount of money] purchase price.

The Pros: it provides very good value for the money -- many playback features, an excellent screen for the price, and numerous extras included. The remote is very good, and it operates flawlessly in the car. My kid is elated.

The Cons: As others have noted, it generates a lot of heat, but then no more than the portable PC I'm using to write this. I agree it seems to be over-sensitive to dirty discs.

For what I bought it for, I consider it a good deal. Time will tell of course, and I have noted other comments about repairs and AudioVox lack of response. Interestingly, their website doesn't even have a photo of the D1800, which is troubling. Also, no listing of any battery replacements for it.

Speaking of the battery -- it ran 3 hours 52 minutes on first try -- very impressive.

Summary: Does not deserve all the bad press
Review: I have read a lot of negative comments about the Audiovox D1800 but don't agree, at least so far.

I obtained my unit at a lower-than-internet price for my son to use during long road trips. He absolutely loves the thing.

The screen is great -- bright and clear -- and the controls are well designed, as is the remote.

While the speakers leave a lot to be desired, I use external speakers anyway and they are great with this player.

It comes with numerous cords and connectors, including an optical and RCA plugs, earphones, and the car cord.

Yes, there is a lot of heat on the bottom, but then other players have this as well.

And the battery is, I believe, the longest playing of any available on any DVD player. At 5400 milliamps, it lasts just under 4 hours (but is expensive to replace, at [money amount]from AudioVox)

Summary: Not a quality DVD player. Look elsewhere.
Review: I'm note sure about the other Audiovox products, but this one is pretty bad.
It skips on EVERY DVD I own. The sound quality, without head-phones is dreadful. It gets very hot during use. I watched one DVD on it, and by the end-credits, the top was hot enough to cause discomfort to my hand.
What a waste of money.

Summary: This thing skips
Review: This dvd player was skipping slightyly from the very beginning. At first it started only to skip after an hour or so. As refering back to one of the other reviews, when it got hot. Then it became more constant and started occuring from the very beginning of a film or cd. It became annoying and frequent enough that I had to return it.
