It plays DVD-Video (both NTSC and PAL-formatted discs), audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded music discs. You can even enjoy an onscreen slideshow of your cherished digital photos from recordable CDs filled with JPEG image files, including Kodak Picture CDs, which offer greater viewing flexibility. The player comes with audio/video output jacks, letting you use it in the home as a high-quality video source device using supplied AV cables, and its AV input permits use as a monitor for a camcorder, gaming device, or VCR. If you've got a high-definition or HD-ready TV, you're in luck: the player even provides progressive-scan video outputs optimized for high-res sets. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. A standard composite-video output facilitates a connection to just about any television.
