Rating: Summary: potluck player Review: Agree with most others. If you got a good one, your fortunate. First one soon skipped and froze badly. Would not play 50% of DVDs and performed poorly on ones that did start. I returned it last week after 9 months ownership and in 7 days a new unit arrived! Good CS dept in NY. So far so good. Looks like a different (better?) lens trolley component in this new one. I also concurr with those who owned the other model - my bud says he has had no problems with that one. Just runs hot. Your 2nd warrantee only lasts 60 days, so I will act quickly if this one starts acting up. A truly amazing machine when it works right.
Rating: Summary: Piece of JUNK!!! Review: As reported above, this player seems to be pretty unreliable. Mine also would not play certain discs. And it would spin out of control on others, AND it froze, skipped and everything else. It seems like Audiovox added all the extras to distract you from the fact that the drive system is a piece of [junk]!! Avoid this player at all costs.
Rating: Summary: better alternatives Review: Considering that you can get DVD player functionality in most laptops, I would steer clear of this. Why would you want to bring this in addition to your laptop on a trip? Besides, most laptop screens are bigger than this and what do you need when you want to watch a movie? The biggest portable screen you can get!
Rating: Summary: Good for the kids Review: Having just traded the family van for a new car, our children were now without mobile video. The Audiovox was the most for the money and has returned great sevice. I added a cassete adapter to play the audio through the car's stereo. The Audiovox had everything in the box. Cables, wires, hook-ups, batteries for the remote, car adapter, clearly understood instructions, all there. Should have done it sooner...
Rating: Summary: I THINK IT'S A GOOD PORTABLE DVD PLAYER Review: I bought this toy about 6 months ago. It worked great in the car on road trips, to keep the kids happy. Over the next few months, more and more movies quit working (locked up, skipped, etc.) The same movies still played fine at home on the set-top unit. After reading more reviews, this seems to be a common "feature". Needless to say, I returned it and bought a 9" TV/DVD combo that would run on AC or DC. All of the "defective" movies play without a hitch. This one is no where near as small or as cool but it works so that makes the kids and me happy.

Rating: Summary: Good product with many glitches Review: I got this player for my two sons so we can travel and entertain them at the same time. They like the player, it works particulary well in a car since it comes with a cable to power the player in the car. The battery is OK but a new battery ... can only be bought from Audiovox so it seems a little expensive.Picture quality is good also on TV, sound is OK when using headphones. I have had few problems with the player. Some of the problems I have had is the player is very sensitve to scrathes and fingerprints on DVDs, my Matrix DVD plays fine in other players but the Audiovox does not play it because of a few scrathes, it has problems with similar other DVDs in my collection with lots of playtime. I have had to return the product as it simply cannot play DVDs that last more than an hour and a half, when ever I get to the last 20% of a normal 2 hour movie, it will hang, make pixelation or simply skip parts of the movie, this happens even if I just turned on the player and forwarded to this part of the movie. Do NOT buy this product. I will be buying the Audiovox D1680 in stead. I researched the net, and the two players are not made by the same ...company for Audiovox, so I expect to have less trouble with the D1680.
Rating: Summary: Great Package-Low Performance Review: I have also been through an exchange and neither of the players worked properly. They skipped, froze, even grinded at times, regardless of the DVD that was played. Most of the problems seemed to occur after it had been playing for awhile...almost like it was overheating. It's very disappointing...otherwise, it is a beautiful player with a great picture and good sound. It also comes with all of the accessories, so you don't pay hundreds more like you do with other players. I really hope Audiovox fixes the problem because it would be a great package if they did.
Rating: Summary: I THINK IT'S A GOOD PORTABLE DVD PLAYER Review: I HAVE HAD MINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND REALLY LIKE IT. MY KIDS LOVE TO WATCH MOVIES WHEN WE GO OUT OF TOWN IN THE CAR. KEEPS THEM QUIET! I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS WITH MINE.
Rating: Summary: Great Value for the Money Review: I just got the Audiovx D1700, & I love it! It works great. I read the other reviews in disbelief! The one I got works exactly like its supposed to. My 3 year old loves it too. The battery lasted through an entire movie & then some, the picture is vivid, the sound quality is great, & it comes w/EVERYTHING needed! Great value, great product.
