Rating: Summary: Good product, but little value... Review: Why would you spend $999 on this product when you could buy a laptop with a DVD drive for just a couple hundred more? The picture is good, a little light on the reds but not bad for a unit this size. Sound quality is also decent. Overall, a well put-together package, but I just don't see the point.
Rating: Summary: Works Great! Review: I will not travel without it. This little device makes a long flight seem like minutes. Worth every cent.
Rating: Summary: A must for those who travel Review: This is one great travel companion. I use it when traveling alone and with my children. Keeps everyone invovled in the action and makes long flights go very quickly. I use an adapter that allows three headphone sets at the same time with no loss of audio quality. I strongly recommend titanium headphones like those sold in Radio Shack. Each headphone set has its own volume control allowing Dad to rock while the kids can tone it down. Although there are no controls for bass and treble these headphones reproduce a very wide frequency range. I love the remote when using the DVD-L50 in hotels. Sure beats the lousy cable they give you. The unit may not have all the bells and whistles of a home player but the picture quality on a tv is excellent. Panasonic did a great job on this unit.
Rating: Summary: Buy a notebook computer and save the money Review: This product is soon to join the dinosaurs, eight track tape machines and betas. Why buy one of these when you can get the same in a computer with a dvd drive?
Rating: Summary: Beware the jerky video Review: I tested this unit out and it is an incredible unit but one I would wait for the next generation to come out. It apparently does not have enough ram to hold all the video as the picture appears jerky. As soon as the movie starts the picture starts to stop every 10 seconds to catch up with the amount of data being sent to the LCD panel. However, having said that if Panasonic can work out the jerky picture problem, they have a winning combo on their hands. The unit is a joy to behold. It is very small, not much bigger than a CD and yet the screen it entirely watchable, the surround sound speakers are fine and all in all the unit looks like a winner. If they just work out some of the bugs they can have a big seller. Right now I aggree with the previous posting. If you have to go with DVD simply order the Dell 7000. It has a bigger picture more Ram and is more versatile.
Rating: Summary: Buy IT!!! Review: It's compact, light, has a great battery life and the picture quality is terrific! My family took it on 2 long trips and it was great. We loved it on the planes and the hotels. What's best about this puppy vs. a laptop (I have one too) is that it fits easily on an airplane seat tray and it's so light and easy to carry.
Rating: Summary: Incredible screen! Review: I love this player! I travel frequently and the L50 keeps me company in the airport lounge and on the Airplane. The folks that make the PowerXtender laptop adapters for airplanes are going to be shipping one for the L50 so you won't need to take extra batteries on those long flights. The screen is very nice looking, and the 16x9 format lets you view anamorphic format DVDs in their best possible resolution. Of course, the wide screen also causes you to curse the DVDs that AREN't anamorphic (e.g., Titanic). The sound from the built-in speakers is ok, but sounds very good from a pair of headphones. For travelers I recommend a pair of the Sony Noise Cancelling Ear Buds.
Rating: Summary: => An Air / Train Travelers Delight ! Review: Traveling as often as I do, I found the LD50 a perfect companion. Not only is the picture/sound quality excellent, the technical improvements over the LD10 (as well as a less expensive price & 3 hour battery life) made this unit an easy choice for me. Hey, what can be better than bringing your OWN In Flight Movie ? <g> However, Don't skimp on the headphones with this unit. A quality headphone setup completes an alread supurb unit. To me, it's well worth the price.
Rating: Summary: One Trick Pony, Better Off with a Laptop Review: Most new laptop computers, say from Dell, Gateway or Compaq are begin equipped with DVD drive with the decoders and software you need to play movies. A properly equipped laptop be had for about $2200+(make sure the DVD is there when your order) and you get a laptop computer besides. My Dell Inspiron 7000 has a 15" screen and do a full movie on one charge, no problem. The DVD still functions as a CDROM drive for the computer, and I often play music CD's while working on the commute in and out. Fridays on the way home it's 'Movie Night'. Admitedly the software is quirky sometimes, but at least it's not a one trick pony and upgrades and updates are made available.
