Summary: Back in Georgia
Review: When I was a young lad back in Georgia, I snapped my leg in three places and was bedridden for weeks. During that time, I was not allowed to bring our black and white TV to my bedroom. This little Panasonic gadget has just reminded me how happy I would have been to have a portable DVD player to keep me entertained.

Panasonic's L50 takes entertainment to the next level. I would recommend it to anyone, whether they're bedridden or not.

Summary: Tops anything you have ever seen - Very Impressive!!!
Review: Anyone who want's the best of both worlds, light, portable, fantastic display, This DVDL50 is a MUST purchase. I was leary about spending that much money on such an object, especially since I have 2 Macintosh Towers, one with a DVD player, and a 3400c PowerBook that I can easely put a DVD player in. My mind was blown when I took it on a plane to Tucson, AZ. I watched 2 complete movies as the flight was 3.5 hr long. I find that it is better to use in bed at night, then the large TV's with the non-portable DVD players. I take some DVD's to bed with me so I can change disks, plus it seems more intimate that way, especially with adult disc's. The privacy and magnificant sound with internal ear phones is better than anything I have heard. You hear quiet things in the background that you never heard before. Handles all cd types also, DVD,Video CD's, etc. I guarantee you will love it. GET ONE

Summary: A great toy -- here are the pros & cons:
Review: The DVD-L50 is one amazing little piece of electronic gadgetry. That being said, the following is also true:

THE PROS? This unit is superior to Sony's portable. The Sony's D/A converters are 20-bit; the Panasonic uses 24-bit converters. Panasonic's unit also reads DTS-encoded discs.

THE CONS? 1. Non-anamorphic discs look absolutely horrible when expanded to fit its' 5" screen.

2. Be careful not to touch the lid while a disc is playing. Panasonic warns of this in their manual, and you can easily damage a double-sided disc.

3. The unit does not ship with a car adapter -- Panasonic actually warns against using it with a DC/auto power supply. I suspect it may be susceptible to the voltage surge that occurs when a car is started.

4. My first unit had several dead pixels in the display. On such a small screen these are extremely noticeable; at this price I was surprised considering my last two laptops (with 12" and 14" displays) were perfect.

5. An Apple G3 PowerBook blows the Panasonic away -- the Mac portables use a DVD processing card to avoid the problems of decoding DVD-video via software. Sure, they're triple the L-50's price, but they provide a state-of-the-art computer with a 14" display as part of the deal. The only limitation of the PowerBooks? They will not output a Dolby Digital datastream; instead they convert the digital audio and output it as analog.

I hope this information helps anyone considering one of these units.

Summary: Think light, fast and small
Review: Laptops with DVD are BULKY, HEAVY and take time to boot .. This unit is small, light, starts instantly, conserves battery well compared to laptops, connects to my Home TV and plays movies beautifully. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Summary: Are you kidding?!?!?
Review: I'll bet Panasonic will discontinue this product faster than the French lose a European land war. Anyone who would waste money on this thing clearly knows nothing about the capabilities of modern laptop DVD drives.

Summary: A Magnificent Gift for the person who has everything!!!
Review: According to Amazon's Review, it listed this units battery as lasting 2 hours. This is incorrect. That was true for the DVDL10, but the DVDL50 battery life is 3 hours straight. And as it recharges the battery, it allows you to enjoy your movies simultaneousley. The picture screen on this little guy is so sharp, that it's hard to believe it's only 5 inches wide. And please don't even compare this "True DVD Player" to the choppy, Ram-driven, horrible resolution DVD-Rom's you find on a Bulky Laptop. Richard C. Colon LaGrangeville, New York

Summary: GREAT NEW PRODUCT
Review: I sat on the airplane for a 3 1/2 flight watching the guy next to me watch a movie on a DVD portable he rented at the airport in Minn. When I got home I ordered the DVD L50D player and it's the best purchase I've made in years. The only problem is it does get a little hot while playing. It states that in the directions and there is nothing to worry about. It plays super!!!!

Summary: A great invention!
Review: What a great toy. It also makes sense. Instead of buying a DVD player for all your TV's, get this and you can hook it up to any T.V. Which would be cheaper than getting 3 or four DVD players. Also you can take it any where, your friends house, for example, and whatch high quality DVD movies. I love it.

Summary: The niftiest gadget to come out of Japan in years!
Review: Worth the price if only to watch other people drool. Doubles as a CD player and home DVD player. Watching a laptop? No thanks.

Summary: More info...
Review: Why have this over a laptop? For one, my laptop runs Windows NT so a 10-15 minute reboot to change batteries is simply pathetic. Also, I've tried four different software DVD players for PCs and every one has been unstable and choppy. The L50 is a great player and is the perfect size for sitting on my knee for an 8 hour flight. When my meal comes, there's still room on my tray table for the player. Try and do that with a laptop. The way I see it, if your laptop has a DVD player you can probably make do with it. I wanted a real portable player that worked better than every PC DVD player I've used and I sure found it in the L50.
