Rating: Summary: Great for road warriors and travels with kids Review: While researching which portbable DVD player to buy, it quickly became apparent that there are two general camps of users. In one camp are those folks who are looking for a top-notch standalone DVD player that is portable. These people will be using the machine as a substitute for their home DVD player. Things like speaker quality, the remote control functionality and a bunch of bells and whistles matter to these folks. In the second camp are those, like myself, who want the machine for travel. This means that the features that matter most are portability (i.e., size and weight), battery life, and durability. That's not to say that picture quality doesn't matter, it does. But as long we get to watch a movie or two on our transatlantic flight, without having to dedicate an entire piece of carry on luggage to do it, we don't care about a lot of the bells and whistles. In this regard, I will report that the unit is great. The picture quality is excellent (at least to my non-videophile eyes). The battery lasted 5 hours, which is about twice what other models (even other Panasonics) last. The unit is much smaller and lighter than many comparable units out there. 2 people can watch a movie comfortably in a car or in a plane. I am extremely happy with the purchase. Speaker quality for me is a non-issue, as I will always be using headphones. With headphones, especially noise-cancelling headphones, the sound is great. So, if you're in the market for one of these puppies and you will be using it for travel and to keep the kids entertained on the way to Grandma's, I stongly recommend this unit.
