Rating: Summary: Very Good Player Review: I just bought my first Portable DVD player and I decided to go with the Toshiba. I'm a big fan of movies I own about 300 of them. I couldn't wait to try out my new toy. I was very impressed with the Quality of sound and love the rubberized case and red is my favorite color. I love the fact that two people can plug into the unit with headphones. It will come in handy when you don't want to disturb anyone. I will be taking mine with me to Las Vegas next week. The unit itself is wonderfully made and so durable that you can do and take it everywhere. I just watched a movie while working out on the treadmill. If your looking for a unit that surpasses all others then I highly reccomend Toshiba. You'll love it!!!! Rebecca from Columbus,Ohio.
Rating: Summary: Toshiba has problems with this player Review: I purchased this player last nov.03, battery dead by january, toshiba sent out new battery, that is now dead.To top it off toshiba will not stand up to there problems with this unit and replace bad batteries! I paid good money for a portable dvd player that is not portable. Toshiba wants people to shell out 150.00 for a new battery (half the price of the unit itself) Please read all the reviews and that will tell you not to buy this product! Toshiba is not handling the problem the way it should!!Beware DO NOT BUY!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Happy in Tucson Review: I purchased this unit before I read a few of the reviews and was cautiously optimisic as I awaited my Toshiba SD-P1200. Once I got it I imeediately put it to the test. Driviving to work 78 miles one way would give me good information. The picture was excellent and the rubber bottom was great as I did not slip along the dash.(Manual transmission)There were no skip problems at all in the week that I tested it. The internal speakers are not the greatest but I took care of that slight problem buy adding an external speaker. I also used exteral ear buds and the sound was fanastic. I have backups of all my movies and the player had no problem playing both DVD+R Or -R. overall very satisfied with my purchase.
Rating: Summary: Poor sound and resets at the slightest bump Review: I tried three of the same model and they all reset the DVD at the slightest bump. Even on an airplane, if I touched the tray table the unit would reset. I would not recommned this unit. I went with the 7" Sony for a little more money and it works great.
Rating: Summary: Don't need a roadtrip to enjoy it! Review: I was in the market for a portable DVD player for my 6 year old that he could also use in his room. After much research and window shopping decided to get the Toshiba. LOVE IT! Hooked it up right in the store parking lot (bought an AC/DC/airplane adapter) for my son to use it in the car, also use it at home, in the kitchen, chillin' on the hammock, as a DVD player for his bedroom TV...can't wait for our trip in Sep to use it on the plane! [definatly worth the cost]...doesn't even slide off your lap in the car since it's rubberized. Easy to use and good quality (sound is great with the []Sony headset I bought). What else can I say?...easy to use, good quality, DURABLE, fits in my pocketbook, etc. Worth the extra money! (you get what you pay for)
Rating: Summary: Nothing but problems. 3rd unit! Just looks nice thats it. Review: I'm amazed Toshiba would make such junk. After going through 3 of these I did a search on the net to see what others had to say and I've leared I'm not alone. All 3 units would show "loading" when putting in a DVD and thats it. I'm tired of returning mine to the store. While I am impressed with the looks that is all it is, just looks. Third one in a week. Don't take a chance if it does not fail the day you get it home no doubt your turn will come up shortly after.
Rating: Summary: Coulda Been a Contender Review: I'm giving this player only three stars for several reasons. The physical design of the device is certainly attractive, and it does meet my basic need for a hand-held DVD player. However, Toshiba has made some design choices that might make sense if this were your first and only DVD player, but which hamper its utility as a portable player. I think for most buyers a portable will a second, third, or even fourth DVD player that will rarely be plugged into a TV. The most annoying thing by far it the player's inability to remember where you left off watching a DVD. If you don't watch a film all the way through in one sitting, you have to find your way back to the point you left off each time you re-start the player (This is not, by the way, a flaw unique to this Toshiba product; I have a Toshiba 9" TV/DVD combo with the same failing). This lack of memory is especially irritating because, as some others have noted, the player can easily lose tracking and then has the re-load the disc (I've found that keeping my thumb on the disc cover while moving seems to help prevent this; perhaps if the disc cover locked down more securely, it might not happen at all). Maybe this lack of shock resistance is a reflection of Toshiba's apparent assumption that the unit would usually be used while connected to a TV. My other main complaint is that there are separate fast forward and reverse buttons on the remote, but not on the player itself. You can get up to 32X from the remote, but only 2X on the player (by holding down the Skip buttons). This probably would not be so much of an issue if the player could remember where it left off when you stopped or it lost tracking. This seems to be another decision made assuming it would be used as a set-top player as least as much as a portable. Finally, there is the matter of the latch, which has the problems of being both flimsy and hard to operate. This is just poor ergonomics. Having said all of that, however, I have to admit I do like the unit. I wanted a portable player about the size of a book that I could use in bed when I don't feel like reading, and this is an adequate solution. It's too bad Toshiba did not put more attention into making this a really great portable DVD player instead of just a great-looking portable and set-top DVD player
Rating: Summary: Excellent Choice Review: I'm very impressed with the operation of this item. Picture quality is very good and for traveling purposes I like the durability of the case. The internal speakers don't have the best sound but using a good pair of headphones, which is really what it's intended for, sound great. The 3D audio setting does a very good job simulating surround sound and it's very easy to connect to a television or amplifier whether using the analog or digital connection. I know people who have purchased cheaper model portable DVD players and had trouble with them. It's well worth it to spend a little more for the quality of the SD-P1200. I also commend Amazon. I received this item via UPS within 24 hours from my online order. Great Job!
Rating: Summary: WOW, Just wow Review: I'v got to tell you. The picture on this things is Amazing !!!!. I used to have the Panasonic DVD-lv75 but that broke over a year ago. Anyway I just had my 16Th birthday and I was in the market for a new one. Then I saw it. The Picture quality it just breathtaking, way better than the panasonic. Rating: Summary: Stylish and High Quality! Review: I've owned the Toshiba SD-P1200 Portable DVD Player for about 6 months, and I love it! To save you some reading time, I'll just make a Pro/Con list. :) Pros: ~Pictury Quality is ace! Bright and distinctive. ~Doesn't heat up too much. I once had it running for over 7 hours, and it never got too hot. Usually, it just gets warm. I don't think it's ever been too hot to touch for me. ~Easy to use. ~Rather Sturdy. I'll admit, I've dropped it a couple of times on carpet and it has been lugged around carelessly, yet there is no damage I'm aware of. Cons: ~For the speakers it has, the sound quality is fine. But I've noticed when a car is on the highway, or you're in an area where there is a lot of noise, it can be hard to hear. ~It DOES NOT come with a car adapter. I had to buy one separately. ~There isn't a fast forward and rewind button on the main unit. These buttons and other specific buttons can only be found on the remote control. All in all, I'm very happy with the DVD player. :)
