Summary: Solution to Battery Problem?
Review: I bought this DVD player and I have enjoyed it (except for the lack of skip protection). I was angry when the battery died completely after a few months. I bought a replacement battery online for $100 and read on the instructions that if you keep the battery attached to the player, a trickle charge remains on and can kill the battery completely. So if you buy this player, it's okay but I am now taking the battery off when not using the player. Hopefully this will solve the dead battery issue. One thing I enjoy is the double headphone jacks -- my wife and I use the player to watch movies on airplane flights.

Summary: Nice but unreliable
Review: I bought this DVD player to entertain my kids while traveling. I liked its size, features, look and battery life. We took it on a trip overseas and it worked fine lasting about 5 hours (more than enough) on a charged battery. It is sensitive to the bumps, but on the plane it is OK. Even in the car it was OK when my kid held it on his lap. After that trip we didn't use it for couple months and when we tried it again the battery was hopelessly dead. I couldn't charge it at all. I had an adapter for the car so we could still use it, but it developed another problem that the screen would go off by itself (something wrong with the lid sensor). So in less than 6 months I had to send it back for exchange and we didn't even use it that much.

Summary: Can't Handle Anything
Review: I bought this player 2 weeks ago and I loved it for the first week. Great picture! Last night it quit. The discs wouldn't load. I tried 5 different discs and it would start and then stop.
For [$$] I wouldn't recomend wasting your money on it!

Summary: Great Portable
Review: I bought this unit as a recertified about a week ago from an etailer on Ebay for $248. I was really excited to get this because my hobby is portable electronics. I own several shortwave radios, frs/gmrs radios, portable handheld TV's, mp3 players, etc. I have been waiting for the prices to go down on a 7" portable dvd player.

Several months ago I saw the Tosiba SD P1200 at the Best Buy store near my house. I have been watching the internet for recertified units ever since. About two weeks ago I saw several recertified units from an etailer on ebay for $248 dollars and bought one.

I am extremely impressed with the functionability of this unit. The quality of the DVD movies is excellent. The built in speakers are under powered like most other portables on the market. However I plugged in my $14 sony battery operated portable speakers and the quality is excellent. I brought this unit to the hospital to entertain a friend having surgery and we both enjoyed the quality of the movie and the sound. The sound is even better when you plug in headphones!

The jpeg viewer on the unit is ok. The pixels on the screen do not do justice to my digital photos. However that is corrected by plugging it into a TV. The slideshow capability of this player is excellent!

I have also used this player on a 20 year old RCA 27" TV. I plugged it into the av jacks on the vcr. The quality of the movie was great.

I have also used the mp3 and cd player. The cd's play great and are best listened to with headphones. I have had marginal success with the mp3's. Some sound great and others are scratchy.

Overall this is an excellent portable unit. It is not perfect but if you can grab yourself a recertified unit for the price I paid it is well worth the money!

Summary: Great player - Pretty high pricetag for 7-inch
Review: I had this unit for a couple of hours when I thought my Initial 1810 was going to go back to the store. I liked this unit very much. It was ultra-cool looking with it's rubberized outer skin, and the black and red theme.
It played everything I threw at it. Very surprising, given that no other Toshiba player I have heard of will play SVCDs. I tried VCD, SVCD, anamorphic DVD, full screen DVD, and widescreen DVD. Imation CDr and Sony DVD+RW worked fine.
You might not be thrilled with the aspect ratio for SVCD, though. I thought things were a little squished vertically, and I could not find a setting that would render it correctly and use the whole screen from left to right.
If this unit had an 8 inch screen for $500, then I would have returned the Initial 1810 and kept this one. In my opinion, anything under 8 inches is just too small.
This unit was obviously more solid than my Initial 1810, but it didn't seem to be worthwhile to me to pay $100 more and lose an inch of screen.

Summary: Great Product, Great Value, Great EVERYTHING
Review: I had wanted a portable dvd player for my 16th birthday. I had shopped around online and everywhere trying to find one for the best price possible. This Toshiba may not be the cheapest one out there, but anything else for under the price won't be as great of a value. Its definitely worth the extra 100 dollars. It is extremely durable, has great picture, and sound and plays everything i give it.. 5 STARS FOR THIS ONE.... LOOK NO FURTHER. THIS IS THE BEST ONE IN THE 7inch Price range.

Summary: Not to buy for the Car
Review: I have now had this unit for 6 months and have put it through a tough trial of travel. The unit has held up very well in suitcases, backpacks, planes, cruise ships and a 4-year-old daughter. It has been dropped and banged around and god only knows what the baggage handlers do with our luggage.
The picture quality is great and the sound is what it is for those small speakers, with headphones you would think you were in a Boses surround sound theater. The only drew back is if you really want to use it for the car. This unit gets an F. Any small bump in the car and this is in a Volvo S80 the unit re-sets, constantly. It has no real stabilization for the unit to handle any kind of shock while playing. We actually put two down pillows between the front seats and sat the unit on top of these and it still re-sets itself on small bumps, very frustrating. In a stable environment it works great. But if you are contemplating using this in a car do not buy the SD-P1200.

Summary: Batttery dead
Review: I have only had it and few months and have used it only a few times and the battery is dead. Obviously this is a manufacturing defect since I have read that many other people have had the same problem.
