Summary: It can be multi-region enabled!
Review: I bought this unit because I liked the price, liked the reviews and had read on the internet that it could be region-hacked to enable playback of DVDs from the U.S., Europe, Asia, wherever!I wasn't disappointed. I bought a region-hack DVD from a guy on the internet and it worked fine. (Just inserted the DVD, followed instructions, put in an unlocking security number and it now plays DVDs from anywhere in the world!) The display looks good, even in bright lights. I'll be using it for displaying an in-store video promotion which will be setup under bright lights and I've tested it - it will perform well under those conditions. Don't like the fact that it can't play DVD+Rs or DVD+RWs. It plays DVD-Rs fine though. Hence a movie which I had created with a digital camera and burned onto a DVD+R wouldn't run. I had to find a burner that would burn onto DVD-R discs and create the DVD with that. Battery power also could be longer - 1/2 hours playback just isn't enough for a movie. The manual says it will play for 5 hours with an add-on battery which is not included. Overall though, it satisfied my needs. 4 stars!

Summary: Incredible machine
Review: I had been looking for a portable DVD player to take on trips, so had researched quite a few. I know I made the right decision when I purchased this one. The picture is bright and clear, and it's larger than many models offer. The sound is great, even without headphones. And it's very easy to use. I can't say enough good things about this little DVD player. I absolutely love it. I even use it at home between trips.

Summary: Panasonic LV50 DVD player
Review: I had the Panasonic 50 for two years. Loved the picture quality, and sound on headset was great. I used it almost every day. About every two or three months went away, and used the battery pack for a week or more each time. Paid a high price but felt it was worth it until recently. The battery was slow to charge after a year. Got a new battery, very costly ...Did have sporatic skipping during the life of the player, but cleaning laser eye cleared this up. But finally after two years it just suddenly "[died]". For the high price ...I felt it should have lasted a lot longer. I am not going to replace my player with the new Panasonic, because I don't trust an "built in rechargable battery". What happens when this battery dies?

Review: I looked at number of DVD playes from the cheap to the more expensive thinking I could go a bit cheaper and get by. However, I have a number of home burned DVD's and found that the cheaper units would not play them. I paid the extra for this unit and I love it. It plays flawlessly, had great sound and great picture quality. It's easy to use and with the lighted blue "enter" key you can eaisly navagate in the dark (like in bed at night watching some old MASH episodes). I'm very happy with this product and am glad I paid the extra for this quality unit.

Summary: Great Picture Worth the Price
Review: I purchased the LA-95 last year for a roundtrip flight from NY to Hawaii. From the reviews, I knew that I needed something to extend the battery life if I wanted to use it for more than a couple of hours without recharging. I purchased the extended battery from Panasonic which worked beautifully, more than six total hours. I also purchased what was advertised as an adaptor for use in the car or with airline power outlets from J + R. It turned out to be incompatible. I was able to connect the player to tvs in every place we stayed but one, so we had dvd movies everywhere we needed them which was not very often since we were in Hawaii. I've taken it on every plane ride since and have hooked it up to tvs in many hotels and condos. As long as there's a compatible input, I can watch movies. One little glitch did develop a few months ago. The lcd screen got what looked like a black splash across the screen which obscured the picture. Since it was under warrantee, I had it fixed for $65. They replaced the lcd panel. Fortunately, I only had to drive to New Jersey. My other option was to ship it to Texas. I don't know how this happened since it had been stored for about 3 months in a padded case in the closet, not dropped or mishandled. It must be very delicate. I did not ask how much it would have cost to repair if it wasn't under warrantee; I was afraid to know since between the unit and the extended battery, I have a considerable investment. It is a LOT of fun, though and you're never stuck with airplane or expensive hotel movies.

Summary: Excellent product
Review: I purchased this product primarily for use by my 4-year-old daughter so she can stay occupied when we take long flights. I have only used it for one such case so far, in which we flew to Mexico from Seattle, but I was very impressed at Panasonic's execution with this DVD player. (Note that there is a newer unit, the DVD-LX9, available from Panasonic that has progressive scanning technology and stand-alone speakers, but it is also significantly more expensive and probably not worth it given the typical use cases of a portable DVD player.) The LA95 basically does everything right. For example, it has good sound quality and a more than sufficient amplifier so both the external speakers and headphones actually work reasonably. (Most portable devices have lousy external speakers and some even suffer from poor volume level even with headphones.) It also has a very clean picture and I saw no instances of pixelation or other bad DVD processing artifacts as I played with the forward and reverse controls. The best thing, though, was the optional extended life battery (the CGP-H501A). It lasts for up to 10 hours of DVD play: on one charge, we flew to Mexico and back, playing multiple movies in both directions, and I used it to watch two movies while in Mexico, and the battery pack is not all that heavy or obtrusive. If you're looking for a very strong portable DVD player, you will definitely not be disappointed if you purchase the DVD-LA95. Just be sure to purchase the extended life battery (there is an H502 also, but that has a *lower* life than the H501 - get the H501) and you might want to pick up a headphone jack splitter so you can have more than one person listen in with headphones.

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: I used this portable dvd player while deployed to Kuwait for Operation Iraqi Freedom and am superbly satisfied with it's performance. With it's 9in screen and very robust sound from the internal speakers, many of my collegues and I could crowd around it and all watch a movie together. The interface is extremely easy to handle and it will play many different formats of dvd that are burned onto blank discs. I was also able to connect an x-box to it's auxiliary ports using a special adapter. There is so much you can do, it's like a miniature tv set. I definitely reccommend this unit to anyone interested in investing heavily in a portable player, especially for those who do a lot of travelling. And as a designer myself, I greatly appreciate it's styling and sleek appearance and control interfaces. The only letdown was the plastic casing. I was really expecting it to be constructed of metal or aluminum.

Review: I was looking for a portable dvd and had a hard time deciding. When it came down to it though I decided that the 9 inch screen was a big selling point. I am not the least bit dissappointed. The picture quality is good enough for several people to enjoy watching together.

Summary: High Quality & Durability
Review: I was searching for a portable DVD player to take with me to Iraq (military) as I was worried about destroying an expensive personal laptop. I bought three other models and returned them before I found the LA95. I was concerned because the hinge feels somewhat flimsy compared to other models, and the base gets quite warm. However, I kept it because the picture and sound quality were far superior to the other models I tested. The others sounded fine with headphones, but they aren't exactly comfortable in the desert heat. After 6 months of extremely harsh conditions (sand & heat) this player has heald up very well. I highly recommend this one. I can find nothing to complain about on it. I also recommend the additional battery pack for about 10 hours of total play time (far better than any other model).
