Summary: B Style with a budget.
Review: Fans of the current Hercules/Xena genre should look into this somehwat older classic by Sam Raimi starring Bruce Campbell (Cameo by Ted Raimi). Loosely following the evil dead series (this is part 3), this movies pits our hero Ash fighting the deadites in medieval times while looking for a way back to his own time.Bruce Campbell is flawless in playing the swashbuckling hero Ash, adding a new dimension to the word tough while defining a new meaning for egotistical. Effects are somewhat cheesy, but its a B movie style. A must for my collection. In one word : "GROOVY" END

Summary: The best of the Evil Dead Trilogy!
Review: Army of Darkness was a fun, action-packed movie with laughs, scares, and action. Bruce Campbell protrays his roll again as Ash to stop the dead again in this third movie. For all of you who don't know, this movie had two other movies before this, The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2:Dead by Dawn. After stopping the terror in the cabin in the woods, he is sucked back in time in 1300 A.D. with is chainsaw-hand, bullets, and shotgun he sees knights and kings and a hot looking medieval babe. Every thinks he is after fighting with demons from the pit and surviving, everyone thinks he is the chosen one from the Necronomicon. That's when he finds out he has to do some more fighting and I can't blame him, he get a little pissed off and the Necronomicon is the only thing that will take him back to his own time. Then it's a kick ass horror movie. I reccomend this to anyone who is a beginner of horror movies or is just a horror movie maniac. END

Review: Bruce Campbell is easily one of the most entertaining actors on the big screen, and this book reflects his awesome aura. His wonderful one liners make you laugh, and the cool action makes you laugh harder. Definetly the best of it's genre! END

Summary: Will Quench Your Thirst for Horror!
Review: Wonderfully funny and scary. Full of action. Bruce Campbell plays it straight in hilarious situations better than anyone. His ability to utter great one-liners while still maintaining a straight face is unmatched. Having grown up on the classic horror films of the '80s (Nighmare on Elm St., Halloween, etc;) I must say that this was one of the best I've seen in years. A refreshing mix of blood and comedy, violence and horror. Too bad it's the last one in the series. I highly recommend this movie to horror/action mavens. END

Summary: One of the funniest movies of all time!!
Review: Army of Darkness, or Evil Dead III as it's sometimes known, is hilarious!! If you enjoy a cool movie with a lot (and I mean a lot) of good one liners, you'll enjoy this movie. The hero of the movie is Ash, a S-Mart employee who cut off his own right hand. Ash is sent back in time with only his chainsaw, shotgun (made in Grand Rapids, Michigan), his car, and his wit. All I can say is "Groovy!" END

Summary: The All-Time Camp Classic
Review: This is the ultimate combination of comedy and science fiction. Never has a movie produced more memorable one-liners. The story of a modern day "S-Mart" clerk who is thrown back in time to do battle with an army of the dead, this movie has it all. Humor, romance, stirring battle scenes and more laugh-out-loud moments than can be counted. I first saw this movie in the theater when it was released (the trailer which can be seen on the DVD version drew me in). I did not see the first two movies in the series (Evil Dead and Evil Dead II) until after this one. Now I am hooked. These three movies make as good a series of movies as any I have ever seen (although, you could easily skip Evil Dead I, as much of it is repeated in II, but that is another review), the Star Wars Triology included. Bruce Campbell has incredible comic timing. The supporting cast includes the beautiful Embeth Davidtz, the sublime Ian Abercrombie, the brilliantly funny Mark Burnley and even a brief cameo by Bridgette Fonda. I would recommend the whole series, but this movie can stand alone. Even without the background of Evil Dead II, this movie is worth watching more than once. You will find yourself rewinding over and over to catch the line you just missed. For all those who live to quote movie lines to thier friends, this is as good as it gets. Don't miss this movie.

Summary: A Bad and Tasteless Film
Review: This by far is the worst film I have ever seen. Sure, I've had my fair share of bad films, but this one tops them off. The acting stunk in a very big way. I expected this film to scare the socks off of me, but, instead I was shaking my head in full on disgust at the Comedy Relief Film instead of being a true horror flick. Don't waste a second of your time on this film and don't waste your money on it either.

Summary: Hail to the King Baby!
Review: WOW! This movie is without a doubt the best movie I have ever seen. Ash "THE MAN", played by Bruce Campbell, steals the show as he uses sheer toughness, unique fighting techniques, and savy pillow talking, to combat evil and of course, work the ladies. Ash a simple hardware store clerk, sneaks his way out into the country to an abandoned cabin. While trying to score on his babe Linda, Ash finds himself suddenly shot back through time by an evil awaked in the forest. Captured by Medeval locals, through skill and cunningness Ash is eventually proven to be the "chosen one" who must lead these simple people against the evil army of the dead. Director Sam Raimi brilliantly turns this story line into sheer comedy using exciting and commical action scenes coupled with over 50 of the best "One liners" ever heard on screen. I can not even begin to give this movie justice by attempting to put into writing all that it has to offer. I can only portray my humble opinion and advice. One must watch this movie more than once as it gets better every time you see it. The full effect of its clever hillarity does not even maximize until about the third viewing of the movie. With these words of wisdom I can only encourage you to rush out, grab the nearest copy you can find, and enjoy the ride.

Summary: Hysterical horror film
Review: Props to Sam Raimi for making a film that defies the typical conventions of horror. As he did for the last two Evil Dead films (even though the second was a higher budget remake of the first) he was poking fun at the horror genre. Moreover, let's face it, there's a lot to be made fun of.
When I read the plot description, I was certain that this film would be disastrous. Ash, going back in time, to the Middle Ages nonetheless, to help King Arthur win a battle against the "army of the dead". It was preposterous. Yet somehow, he pulled it off. The same irreverent wit that fueled the low budget first film, and the slightly higher budget second film, was in full display here. In addition, I understood why horror buffs are interested in an Ash vs. Freddy vs. Jason film. Actually, the only reason I watched Evil Dead was to understand why Ash would play a pivotal role if that film was ever made. Now I know. And I hope that they make it - and I hope that someone talented writes the script and directs it. Freddy vs. Jason was a complete disaster.
Nothing about this film made sense, and that was the brilliance of it. Where did Ash come up with a Chemistry 101 textbook that taught him how to make gunpowder? How was he able to escape the first Necromonicon book when it sucked him in with (apparently) the force of a tornado? And how was Ash capable of teaching many of Arthur's knights how to "really" fight? Seriously - this may have been the Middle Ages, but these guys knew how to handle a halberd, and knew how to handle it better than Ash.
But that was the brilliance of the film. It poked fun at just about everything, and when it wasn't poking fun it was paying homage. When Henry the Red's forces aligned at the top of a hilltop to fall upon the Army of Darkness, that was straight out of The Lord of the Rings. And I'm not talking about the movie, which was made almost a decade later. I'm talking about the book, which was written thirty years prior. However, that's not a criticism. It's part of a hysterical script that was not supposed to be taken seriously. Horror films fall into two categories: those that are meant to be taken seriously, and those that poke fun at themselves. Army of Darkness fell into the latter, and did a marvelous job. I found myself laughing aloud at *several* points. It was ingenious.
Even non-horror buffs would find this amusing.

Summary: Blood, Guts and Comedy
Review: Army of Darkness is the third (and so far final) movie in the Evil Dead Series. Before director Sam Raimi went legits with a series of critically acclaimed dramas and the Spiderman series, he was a low budget horror genius. Army of Darkness begins right where Evil Dead II ended, with Bruce Campbell trapped in medieval times to battle the deadites once again.
The trilogy started out in Evil Dead as a pretty straight horror movie. A group of people discover a book of the dead and unleash gore filled horror upon themselves in a remote cabin. Evil Dead II basically re-tells the same story with a different cast (except for the ever present Bruce Campbell), bigger budget and plenty of slapstick. The second movie is by far my favorite in the series. It keeps the ghoulish gore while adding hilarious physical comedy and some classic one liners. Army of Darkness furthers this tradition by adding even more slap stick and one lines while removing almost all of the gore.
What little plot there is goes something like this: Stranded in the middle ages Bruce Campbell is at first captured by a small army for being mistaken for a member of a rival army. Bruce quickly uses his "boomstick" to gain clout with his captors and is sent on a quest to recover the Necronomicon which will both send Bruce back to his own time and save the army from evil. Bruce being Bruce he gets the book and unleashes an army of the dead. There are two endings released for this movie. One happier ending was released in US theatres and another sequel set up unhappy ending seen in a theatrical cut in the UK and on many US DVD versions.
Raimi once again does a nice job creating a mix of horror movie cliche's (which range from Jason and the Argonauts to Gulliver's Travels) with the slapstick of the Three Stooges. Unfortunately the comic elements seem to take over this picture leaving the horror end of it as more of a backdrop. It feels more like a Zucker brother's movie more than a horror film. Most of the evil dead are formed as skeletons which only crumble when destroyed rather than burst into a mess of blood and guts as they did in the first two movies. This may seem to be an absurd complaint, but as a fan of gory movies I felt disappointed with that choice.
The cinematography is actually quite well done throughout most of the picture. My DVD copy is actually quite beautiful in scenes. Especially the exterior shots around the windmill. The use of color and lighting is well above par for most horror films. The pre CGI special effects effect the quality of the print in several areas, but still hold up as goofy Raimi effects. I kept thinking the picture was too pretty for what was actually taking place on screen.
Bruce Campbell once again does a nice job of making Ash come to life. He delivers his lines with the comic timing of a comedian while still delivering enough pain to make his albeit over-the-top beatings believable. The rest of the cast is hardly memorable as characters or for their acting.
Army of Darkness still makes a nice end to the trilogy. In a way it makes a nice bookend to Evil Dead's pure gore horror with the single middle book being a mix between bloody gore and slapstick comedy.
