Summary: it is a copy of halloween.
Review: WHEN FRIDAY THE 13TH WAS RELEASED THE PROBLEM WAS THAT YOUNG KIDS HAVE HAD PROBLEMS DEALING WITH THEIR ANGER. BUT IN 1980, THE HORROR FILM STARTED TO BECOME POPULAR AND THAT IS WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE MOVIE. UNLIKE IT'S PRECEDORS THE MOVIE INTRODUCES THE CHARCATERS WITH FUNNY LIKE ANTEDOTES FROM OTHER HORROR MOVIES. CUNNIGHAM WHO DIRECTED THE MOVIE SAID THAT IT WAS A COPY OF HALLOWEEN BECAUSE HE LOVED THAT MOVIE AND IT WAS SOME SORT OF TRIBUTE BUT I TEND TO DISAGREE. WHILE THE MOVIE IS FUN IT IS ALSO INCREIDBLY STUPID AND DUMB. AND WE HARDLY SEE ANYTHING FROM BETSY PALMER(JASON'S MOTHER) UNTIL THE LAST 15 MINUTES OF THE MOVIE YET SHE GETS TOP BILLING. OH, BOY I LIKE IT AND THEN AGAIN I DIDN'T.

Summary: A dreadfully insulting ripoff of Carpenter's Halloween.
Review: Friday the 13th is an awful movie because the few elements in the movie that arouse suspense and fear were simply ripped off of one of the greatest slasher's ever, Halloween. The movie is also an abomination because it inspired a whole genre of trash even worse than itself. If you want a good horror movie, see Psycho or Halloween or The Shining or Night of the Living Dead, but at all costs avoid this disgrace.

Summary: Very good!
Review: Despite blood, this movie was scary and suspenseful.I liked Manfredini's score to this movie, too.The plot with the camp reopening after years of a bad name is pretty good, also.

Summary: a fairly good movie
Review: an interesting movie.its pritty well done but is too mutch of a copy off of halloween

Summary: It may be low budget, but the gory FX made up for that.
Review: Twenty years after the camp closed down do to two unsolved murders, seven counselors and the owner get killed one by one when they try to open it again.

Although the acting and dialogue compares to a highschool play and an obviously low budget, the creepy and infammous music by Harry Manfredini plays well in the film. Betsy Palmer's protrayal as Jason's vengful and scizo mother is my vote for the best, if not short lived, horror movie psycho. And the bloody make-up by Tom Savini more than makes up for the lack of special effects and bad acting. Spawned eight sequals and a unrelated television series. If you are new to horror movies, start with the origional slashers: Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street.

Summary: The film that started a sensation isn't all that sensational
Review: Featuring some beautiful (albeit nasty) effects by Tom Savini and a memorable score by Harry Mancini, Friday the 13th will forever serve as a reminder of the golden age of gore. The first (but certainly not last) of it's kind, the film relishes in it's own exploitation. It's the standard fare: teenagers, alone at a summer camp, smoke pot, play Monoploy, have sex, and die... all except for one... it's that unlucky person's job to run around, find all the other bodies, and fight the killer. What this film really has going for it is an excellent sense of paranoia and claustrophobia. It's 'who dun it' motif is very well executed and it has one ofthe most memorable endings since Carrie. All-in-all, Friday the 13th is good entertainment and provides a few good scares. Still, it's a movie best seen once and then left alone.

Summary: Hmmm....it's better than a kick in the face
Review: Despite spawning too many sequels I care to count, this first of the series was the best, which doesn't say much.. The only thing saving this movie is Palmer's performance as Jason's mother, a lot more effective than the rest of the cast. Too bad we only see her for about 15 minutes. I recommend just fast forwarding to the last 15 minutes and you will see the whole so-called plot spouted by Palmer. Because up to that point, it is just a dragged on boring film (more boring than the Republican National Convention).

Summary: First...and best
Review: Even though this is where it all began, this one is absolutely the best due to the creepy atmosphere, campy acting, and quick-moving plot. The whole thing, from the figure watching the counselors from the trees to the familiar faces from soaps in the past to a dead charcter on the top bunk while Kevin Bacon and girl have sex on the bottom bunk to the awesomely outrageous performance of Betsy Palmer, just makes for a wonderful horror flick that I rank up there with PSYCHO and HALLOWEEN.

Summary: Terrific, clever, scary!
Review: Sean S. Cunningham takes terror to the extreme in this landmark film that started a whole decade of imatations. Clearly a soon-to-be classic.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A one of a kind camp slasher flick. Influential
Review: When I first saw this film I fell in love with it and started renting all of the sequels. Lots of films try to imitate it but they're nowhere near as well done as this one. Cast features Kevin Bacon and stage and screen actress Betsy Palmer. A great look at the great outdoors before all the slashings and gore begins. A total masterpiece! Followed by eight sequels which are nowhere as well done as this one, but still enjoyable. Check them out, cause this is the one that started the whole cult series. A definite cult classic!
