Rating: Summary: Unsettling Review: Wes Craven's debut film wasn't bad for a beginner. It begins innocently enough, with Mary Collingwood (Sandra Cassel) getting ready to go to a concert with her friend. It's when they want some weed that they get into trouble. They go up to a dealer who just happens to be someone on the lookout for new victims for two violent murderers who escaped from prison and their female accomplice. In the apartment, the girls are verbally abused and one of them is raped. The following day, they are taken to the woods. It is there that the real "fun" begins for the rapists/murderers and they proceed to intensify their torture of the two women. After Mary and her friend are murdered (in reverse order), the four killers (three actually, the fourth in the group is the son of one of the murderers and he's so strung out on heroin he can't think straight) seek refuge in a house directly across from the woods. It turns out to be the house of Mary Collingwood. When the parents put two and two together, they seek the ultimate revenge and get it. For working on such a low budget, Craven did an excellent job with his first film. The shoddy camera work gives it that extra scary effect (the creators of "The Blair Witch Project" knew a good effect when they saw it). Even after many times watching it, this still scares the hell out of me.
Rating: Summary: Little to no plot and stupid stuff Review: To sum this movie up in a couple of words is down right bad. I greatley enjoy watch Wes Cravens movies but when he made this he was still a beginer. The movie has little to no plot in it, it is just about a bunch of sick killer who mess around with these two girls and than the killers end up meeting up with one of the girls parents. I like that part but other wise this movie is bad and boring. Movies are suppose to entertain you and when I rented this I wanted to be entertained and scared. This movie did neither. It just left me having little respect for Mr. Craven. Having the killers do that stuff wasn't going to make a addience scared but just mess them up. I wish I could have the time back that I wasted watching this movie. People online said it was really scary but they don't know what their talking about. If you want a scary movie rent something realistic and doesn't have to use a whole bunch of blood to freak you out. This movie isn't creative it all it's just something a group of people can pull together over the weekend. Last comment if you want a good We Craven flick rent Serpent and the Rainbow.
Rating: Summary: This is horror Review: I don't know what was wrong with people in the 70's. The most disturbing movies ever made were spawned from that decade and "Last House on the Left" is no different. If you want to see a real horror movie and really be scared, then I certainly recommend this. Yes, it is distasteful, poorly filmed, poorly acted and poorly scripted, but well worth it if you're a fan of 70's horror. Know what to expect, don'y be like the two bleeding heart crybabies below that couldn't handle it. Apparently, they think that rape doesn't happen, therefore it shouldn't be in movies. If the subject matter is going to bother you, then simply don't watch this movie. If you want to get totally freaked out, then watch it!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: No matter what is said, this is essential horror viewing Review: Hard to believe that Last House on the Left would come from the same guy who would create Freddy Kruger and direct the unsatisfying and overrated Scream trilogy, but before any of that happened Wes Craven made this his directorial debut, and it shows. The picture, production, presentation, and acting are all pretty primitive, but the film still gets it's point across. A couple finds themselves slowly transforming into methodical killers to exact revenge upon the men who brutally and pointlessly tortured and killed their daughter, and Craven's unflinching camera isn't afraid to show us the gritty and horrific detail. The film's biggest flaw is the comic interludes involving the sheriff; these scenes take the dreadful atmosphere away from the film and are nothing more than a distraction from the film's underlying theme. As if you can't tell allready, Last House on the Left isn't a film for everyone, but if you find you can stomach it than consider this essential viewing if your a horror or cult film fan. Produced by Sean S. Cunningham who would later go on to produce and direct the original Friday the 13th. MGM has assembled another fine DVD of an older horror film (check out their releases of Return of the Living Dead and The Fog on DVD to see what I mean) featuring a very insightful commentary by Craven and Cunningham, an outtakes and dailies section featuring the never before seen disembowlment scene, an insightful making of featurette, and the film's trailer which features the film's famous tagline.
Rating: Summary: [junk] Review: This movie and the other 'I spit on your grave' are [junk.] very exploitive to women. Movies like these make rape look like a male sport pastime and alot of these reviewers, men especially, seem to enjoy it. This movie is sick and degrading, not to mention the horrible acting and stupid characters. Does anyone notice that the girl who is killed by the lake continues to move and breathe after she is supposedly dead????? Talk about low budget filth.
Rating: Summary: Be sure and take a shower afterwards Review: HORRIBLE! This is one of the worst movies ever, and to be honest, I'm just not getting this whole time-perspective cult-classic thing. I don't know what disgusted me more, the complete absence of plotline, the seedy, poorly-chosen cast, the bad acting, or the vile and unspeakable things that were done to those poor teenage girls in the woods. I love horror movies. When I'm asleep I'm usually dreaming horror movies. But this was just low-grade garbage. The villains, a bunch of braindead prision escapees, one of which is a pedophile, start off as being oafish and stupid, and then eventually they kidnap these two girls, hold them captive for a night, and then take them out in the woods to debase and murder them. This movie was like the floor of a public bathroom, filthy, virulent, and you want to wash the filth off your feet after watching it. I know it's a fine line. Horror movies are the breeding place for senseless violence and hideous acts. But this movie was like the degenerate sex fantasy of some wet-eyed peep-show monstrosity. Avoid this movie. I know my review is quite obviously in the minority here, but I'm just telling you, if you haven't seen this stink bomb yet, do not waste your time. Watch a horror movie you can have some fun with, monsters, ghosts, hockey masks, chainsaws. Avoid this junk like the virus that it is. Two thumbs down!!!

Rating: Summary: Gritty and Disturbing Review: This definitely isn't a movie for everyone. It is a bit old-fashioned and dated, which I personally like but some audiences of today probably wouldn't. Also it is VERY disturbing and unflinching, I saw it for the first time a few days ago and I still can't get it out of my head. This is the kind of horror film that actually scares me, because I find real people and things that actually happen so much scarier than ghosts and made up monsters. I LOVE that it's so low budget and grainy; like Texas Chainsaw Massacre it lends the film a documentary feel which adds to the tension. I actually wish horror films were still made like this, and no, Blair Witch doesn't count. I like the ironic use of happy hillbilly music and beautiful sun-filled woods that are at direct contrast to the stark horror happening within. The acting in this movie ranges from good (the 2 girls, the head psycho David Hess) to ok (the parents) to really bad (the cops). I felt that the "comedy relief" of the 2 dumb cops was out of place and not needed at all. The extras here are great, the only one I didn't care for was the soundless, dull outtakes & dailies. If you are interested in this film and others like it, you should also check out the documentary AMERICAN NIGHTMARE which looks at the history of independent horror films and how they are influenced by modern world events. At one point they talk specifically of this film; it's very informative and fascinating, definitely worth watching.
Rating: Summary: funny Review: sure, this film is relentless, however, i believe it is also very black and very funny. do any of you out there ever watch movies by john waters or andy warhol or sam peckinpah? well this film has elements of each of those wonderful directors. chelsea girls meets straw dogs meets pink flamingos. let's face it -- life is insane. and don't go looking for pot from no stranger in a "bad neigborhood", ok? especially when your on your way to a rock concert!
Rating: Summary: VERY DISTURBING Review: This classic Wes Craven film is a very disturbing nightmare about three sickies who kidnap, torture and kill two girls and then get killed by the parents of one of the girls. I watched this film and decided I could only watch it once. It is that disturbing. A good movie, but not for all tastes.
